This is such a bad take on so many levels. Alabama played the 16th best strength of schedule. SMU played the 60th. Alabama is 3-1 against current Top 25 teams. SMU is 0-2. Don't spin BS to try and make a bad point. There's several teams playoff bound that have zero or one win against Top 25 teams. Are they more deserving than SMU? Than Bama? Than S. Carolina? Ole Miss?

The end comes down to whether the committee will value tougher schedules versus cupcake schedules and quality wins vs bad losses. What they decide will go a long way in determining future schedules in CFB and longer term, the complete makeup of CFB. The Big 10 and the SEC will split off and leave the ACC and Big 12 behind. That's coming anyway... it's just a matter of how fast we get there.

With all that said, I am on record as saying that I don't think Bama should be in. I can't get past the Okla choke job. But let's not kid ourselves either.

And yet another reason why I hate ESPN.

Let's bring this DB orlovzky on TV to talk about college football when he's covered NFL all year.

I don’t think I’ve seen a single prediction bracket be the same as another. Wild

Also I sure hope we don’t play IU, the Indy area is absolutely riddled with life long first year IU football fans right now. I think ND would crush them

Strength of schedule should play a factor but you know what should play a bigger factor? You winning or losing those games. The notion that bama deserves a spot because they have quality losses against 6-6 teams due to being in the sec is dumb. If Oklahoma were still in the big 12 I don’t think the record is much different, they aren’t a very good team. Losing regular season games still has to matter

How many dudes from Alabama, smu, Miami, etc are waiting for the playoff bracket to break so they can decide if they're going to hit the transfer portal

More I watch how this is breaking down. IDK why we are scheduling such a hard schedule moving forward. 1 loss ND team is a lock every year, 2 loss ND team 50/50, 3 loss ND team zero chance

Wonder if ND is doing a watch party and if so how could we get access to watch.

We're essentially getting our "conference championship game" at home in the first round of the playoff.

Conference teams had to win their CCG to reach the round of 8. We have to win a first round home game to reach the round of 8.

I think that's pretty close to parity.
No, because conference teams have to win their CCG or their round 1 game to reach the round of 8. That is not parity with going into conference championship weekend ranked #4 and going straight into an elimination game.

100% agree. No reason for Bama to lose to Oklahoma. But what's more important? Quality wins or bad losses? What if Bama played SMU's schedule? Or Notre Dame's schedule? Or Indiana's schedule? Or Boise's schedule? Or Texas' schedule? Or Penn St's schedule? Don't know... but I would take my chances.

I was actually rooting for SMU last night as I don't care for Dabo or Clemson. And sometimes I think it's good for the sport to have the little guy get a chance - that is going to disappear in a few years anyway. I also don't believe Alabama is a championship level team this year. Plus I can't get past their losses... even though they have better wins than most teams in the playoffs.

ND should be the 5 seed and I don’t see an argument against that outside of ND hate. Possibly Texas moving us to 6 but I don’t see that either. Absolutely not PSU

The only argument being advanced that ND doesn’t get the five seed is the SEC bias that’s apparent in the committee.

When ND has seasons with tougher schedules, like next year or in a few years when there is bama and Texas on the schedule, the chances of them making the playoffs at 10-2 will be much higher than 50/50. I’d say closer to 90/10

The last one standing had been their best win being better than our best win. But looks from the AP poll that Army has jumped Illinois?
A&M and Louisville literally at 26 and 27 too receiving votes. Absolutely screwing us by losing to Auburn and Stanford

It can really suck being a lifelong, loyal Irish fan in this era,… being the blue blood that doesn’t win big anymore and all that,… but I do try to keep some perspective, we all could be Penn St or Nebraska fans,…

So If ND is not #5 like most are predicting, I feel like this is the first time ND is at a clear disadvantage for being independent.

The chance to play for a 1st round bye is huge. IMO it will become apparent just how advantageous it is to play 3 vs 4 in a row against the best teams in the country concerning injuries/serious fatigue/etc.

Yet PSU and Texas, due to being in a conference, had a shot at a first round bye but also will get a pass despite losing?
I wouldn’t worry about it. Once this thing expands to 16, and it will, that is a moot point.
