So If ND is not #5 like most are predicting, I feel like this is the first time ND is at a clear disadvantage for being independent.

The chance to play for a 1st round bye is huge. IMO it will become apparent just how advantageous it is to play 3 vs 4 in a row against the best teams in the country concerning injuries/serious fatigue/etc.

Yet PSU and Texas, due to being in a conference, had a shot at a first round bye but also will get a pass despite losing?
We're essentially getting our "conference championship game" at home in the first round of the playoff.

Conference teams had to win their CCG to reach the round of 8. We have to win a first round home game to reach the round of 8.

I think that's pretty close to parity.

I actually think this is correct simply to not have two Big Ten teams play in the first round. I think if Indiana wasn’t in the 10th spot they would have Notre Dame ahead of Penn State for certain and likely Texas.

When you went to 12 teams you knew there would be possible re-matches. It is what it is. ND imo falling to 7 is bad.

Oh well nothing we can do to change unless they join a conference.

I definitely get what you are saying. But the difference is our "conference championship" comes with a potential elimination. It appears unless you are in a lower conference, that was not a consequence. Therefore we are punished in essence for being independent.

I support this not just because of the favorable draw but also because it means the Northern Illinois game, in the end, didn't matter at all. And after three months of endlessly hearing "but Northern Illinois," I think we've all earned that.

How are you feeling this morning? I know we don’t want Bama in, but do you think they will?

I don't really care too much because I really believe this year we can beat anyone. Oregon is the best team but they match up terribly with us.
Totally agree about our ability to beat anyone, but am concerned about depth. We've already had a lot of attrition and its gonna be grueling as hell to win 4 in a row against the best for anyone. Imo injuries/luck will be a giant factor in determining the winner.

This. I want to be on the 1/4 side so badly... not for the easier first round game, but we legitimately match up great with Oregon. They cannot stop the run.

Oregon can’t even spell defense let alone play it.

PSU doesn’t have the D that ND has and our corners are much better that PSU’s.

This is why my conspiracy theory is what it is. ND at 5 either means Big Ten vs Big Ten in Round 1 (PSU hosting Indiana) or it means Texas on a path to play Georgia a 3rd time. I think that they will rig the rankings to avoid either of these scenarios, which means you have to make ND #7 hosting Indiana UNLESS you tinker with seeding another way (e.g. excluding SMU and inserting Bama and swapping some other teams around).

People don't realize this but it's extremely common for all NCAA sports with selection committees to go out of their way to avoid "rematches" in the first round... and I think this committee is inclined to try to avoid second round rematches as well only because Texas and Georgia have played twice already.

Ok so whats the issue with Indiana vs PSU.? 🤷‍♂️It's about damn time they played each other. Feel like Indiana avoided a ton of good teams in their own conference to get here.

Yeah at this point rankings go out the window on how teams are seeded outside of First round byes. They need to make eyeballs, ad revenue and ticket sales matter. It’s entirely possible highly ranked teams may not be seeded according to their “rankings”
Haven’t read through yet so apologies if this has been discussed..

How do you rank PSU above OSU when OSU beat them in Happy Valley by double digits and lost to OR on the road (not neutral site) by less?

Explain that to me like I’m 5 y/o

Staples is wrong with Ohio State Manuel said yesterday that Ohio State can't jump Notre Dame because neither played today

Yeah I don't really know how you'd justify putting Ohio State ahead of us, but I'd be totally fine with that draw.

Edit: Oh, wait, this is Ari Wasserman? Ohio State homer and king of the eye test? That's how you justify it.
