Favorite and least favorite on-campus road game that you've gone to?

Best: 2004 Tennessee and 2019 Georgia
Worst: the hurricane of the 2016 NC State game and getting screwed by the refs at the end of the 1982 southern cal game.

Worst home game 2006 Michigan. Brutal considering the expectations of that season.

Best 2010 Utah. Team sucked, weather sucked, but the stadium was rockin and it felt like a turning point of sorts for the program for some reason.

Best off campus game the shamrock series game against asu in dallas. Fun game to watch.

Worst off campus 2017 Miami. Team got waxed and got to sit there and watch the the stadium environment be everything i wish ND was. Place was completely electric.

2015 Clemson. ND had a really great opportunity to pull the upset. I was so mad at BK for his stupid going for two too often and too early.

The worst part though - that was the great flood of South Carolina. My wife calls me the next morning at some ridiculous hour freaking out cause the water was just a couple of feet from entering the house. Had to rush home and dig trenches for hours to divert the water away from the house.

Game day was a blast and the environment inside the stadium was pretty good. The weekend was pretty rough though.

Favorite on-campus road game: Louisville. Just an hour and 45 mins down I-71 from home. Easy trip. Got to meet the bros that @Some Irish Bloke already mentioned. Didn’t know if the wife and I would make it on time to tailgate, so showed up relatively unprepared, and those guys still took great care of us at the IE tailgate, offering great food and cold beverages. Magnificent people. It’s a shame it doesn’t come across on the forum 😂

Favorite on-campus game: BYU 2003. It was my first game! One of our 8th grade football coaches played for ND in the early 80’s, and had a tradition of taking the outgoing 8th graders from our youth football team to an ND game as a “good luck at high school, strive for big things” gift. He’d get us tickets to sit in the bleachers that were behind the end zone before they did away with them.

I liked ND, but didn’t know much. We stayed at a country club somewhere close to campus and got yelled at for playing tackle football on the 9th green the first night there (whoops). The next morning, we took a tour of ND stadium and got to meet Justin Tuck as we toured the press box. He was in a suit fresh off an NBC interview. Amazing stuff. We then went to tailgate. Walking by the stadium and Touchdown Jesus was life-changing. I didn’t just fall in love with ND, but found a deeper appreciation for football in general (which I’m sure was the point of our coach taking us).

Then the game was fun, too. Julius Jones ran wild, and Courtney Watson (I think) intercepted a pass at the end zone pylon right near where we were sitting in the bleachers. One of the ushers told us it was cool to kneel behind the end line if we didn’t cross the hash-marked line two yards back, so we were right there for the action when the players crashed across the end zone celebrating the INT. We jumped up and started going crazy, and the players ran into us and started high-fiving and yelling. My mom swears she saw us on TV with them, but I’ve never found a replay of the game to confirm.

I’ve been all ND from that weekend on.

Worst atmosphere/location/game is the navy game in meadowlands

Best - Probably PSU 2006. Energy was good. The game wasn't close. And I hated PSU and Paterno before it was cool so that was an added bonus.

Worst - Easier to remember, Air Force 2007. Absolutely BLISTERING cold and we got blown out. 41-20 or something like that. Woof.

Worst off campus is a tie between ND vs FSU when they got called for offensive pass interference at the end on a potential game winning TD……. ND vs Navy in Jacksonville where they lost.

I was there for that. After the loss I went to get my car to find out it was illegally towed. I had to walk a mile to get the car, and I was in a bad mood.

Least Favorite: 2008 @USC. USC friend had tickets for me and his brother front row in "Trojan Nation" or whatever they called the player friends + family area in the endzone... I was obviously the only ND person there and we got blasted 38-3. The only upside was that the game was so non-competitive that the jeering/harassment stopped by like the second quarter and turned into pity. It was so bad that we got mock cheers from the stadium at large when ND picked up their first 1st down of the game at the start of the 4th quarter.

Favorite home game was WF 2012, was an awesome atmosphere and they became ranked #1 that night.
Least favorite was @FSU 2015, the crowd was a bunch of rude obnoxious jerks and the refs screwed us in the end.

Athens is such a great college town. Undoubtedly, one of the best. The north part of campus is much nicer compared to the remaining portion. Truthfully though, I didn't find their stadium environment to be too imposing or menacing (I was there in 2009 when LSU beat them in the final minute). Maybe it's the way the stadium is somewhat built-in the ground and open on one of the endzones, but I found it not to be up to the levels of LSU, Florida, Auburn, or Tennessee in terms of a hostile, raucous game environment.

I've never been, but for whatever reason, I've always kind of liked Ryan Field. It's a unique, quaint look - much better than Vanderbilt.

One side of the stadium has the "upper deck" with the unique curvature, the grass always appears to be overly green and high (maybe to intentionally slow down opponents). Aren't they doing substantial upgrades to it or building a new stadium all together?

'99 Neyland Stadium against the Vols was great even though we got spanked. The tailgating was great and the Vols fans were very accommodating.

I have it on good authority that after the 2019 game in Louisville a certain Notre Dame fan played the ND Fight Song over the juke box at the local Waffle House! lol

Best away game: 1996 at Texas. Somehow ran through tunnel with team and spent the game on the sideline. Last second field goal win.
Best home game: Last year Clemson was amazing. Or teabagging Darnold and USC. I find the big night games on campus amazing.
Had a couple of great Yankee stadium experiences vs Army and Syracuse.
Worst home game was blowing a huge lead to a Carl Pickens led Tennessee team. Brutal. Or the loss to Texas during the year to forget.

Not a home game, but the 2012 title game in Miami had a combo of best and worst qualities.

I understand fans at bowl games are quite different than home games, but Bama fans went above and beyond all day.

Before kickoff they were breaking bread with anyone that wanted to hang out, and the only assholes I saw that whole evening were wearing green or blue.

We were squarely in a Bama section, and didn’t pay for a drink all 4 quarters because they felt so bad.

They were eerily laid back even before kickoff knowing the result would be a very lopsided victory in their favor, and they already had been to games like this.

We all understood that was going to happen, but there’s always that childlike wonder of “what if” until a trainload of reality runs over your teeth.

They never came across as arrogant, just fully cognizant about the situation.

I was there in 2015 in the rain. I thought it was a great atmosphere in the stadium. Since it was pouring the whole day, I didn't do much on campus so can't help you there.

Ha. Yeah. I was there too and you're absolutely right. They had so much more chill about the whole thing than we did. Every ND fan's head was about to explode with excitement. They'd pretty much clocked how it was going to go. I'm sure we were adorable.

It’s definitely worth it. I’ve been to two Clemson games - including the 2015 ND game. Their in game atmosphere is pretty good. However, if you want to bond with your soon to be brother in law, being in Clemson, SC ain’t the place to do that! Clemson/USC has as much hatred as ND/Michigan. If you do come, stay in Greenville a couple extra days either before or after. It’s a great city.

If you get the chance to go to a USC game sometime, that is absolutely worth it. Their in game atmosphere is outstanding.

However, if you want to bond with your soon to be brother in law, being in Clemson, SC ain’t the place to do that! Clemson/USC has as much hatred as ND/Michigan. If you do come, stay in Greenville a couple extra days either before or after. It’s a great city.

I figured we'd bond over our mutual loathing of Clemson. My dad's cousin was an All American there, but I've never liked that school for some reason.

November 3, 2007 losing to Navy was by far and away my worst experience at a live ND game. Truly cursed the day I was born leaving that stadium. I saw Ty's last home game against Pitt in 2004, The Bush Push in 2005 and saw Wannstedt beat Charlie in 2008. None of it was as deflating and depressing as losing to Navy.

Worst on ND campus one for me was 2007 against Syracuse. That was the Senior Day game when the student section was throwing the snowballs, and Manti Teo was on his official visit. I remember thinking there was no way in hell we were landing him after that entre debacle of an afternoon, especially with that November weather on full display.

Worst away game for me was scUM '09, when we lost to Tate fuckin' Forcier at the buzzer. We had wayyyyy too much talent on offense to even be considered peers with that garbage uofm squad yet somehow still walked away losers. Jimmy Clausen, Kyle Rudolph, Golden Tate, Michael Floyd, just to name a few.

Not a coincidence my two worsts were in the Weis era.
