Don't get caught up your feelings. He's responsible for the awful QB play and the terrible recruiting. He has to go period.
He has a commitment from nearby 5 star QB who can basically be at ND anytime he wants.

Maybe 10% of my issue is play calling/ use of personnel

90% of my issue is recruiting/developing/managing the QB Room

Del for example was more 50/50

EDIT: Forgot to add, I see a lot of genius in his playcalling. Once he got past the I am smarter then everyone (and he might be) and used his people properly, the Offense if moving. I still wish we were more high powered/ Higher scoring, but at least he is working w/ what he has.

Yep. The following should probably be in the OLine thread, but I'm responding to the post above. Next year Tommy's biggest replacement problem is that we lose our two veteran guards who manage the intricacies of this superb OLine. People give Patterson his props and rightly so, but Lugg is playing AND LEADING just as well. Lugg, if we notice, is the OLineman who checks the OLine steadiness and QB readiness and makes the pre-snap signal. (I believe, without any direct evidence, that he is picked to do this because they want Patterson concentrating on the many Correll help-out blocking schemes they call and that Lugg is so powerful that he can often fend off a rusher with one hand to the chest.) Tommy has to get a QB of course, but replacing those two STUDS we have at guard is a big deal. People talk all they want about replacements, but Kristovic has been the only one yet to show that he might be able to do it. We have two hopeful monsters coming in with the recruiting class though, so I think we're OK.

I would like to know if the plan was run wide left on that or not. The block transfer was fantastic. But I am not sure where the hole was supposed to be. It looks to me like it was maybe between Alt and Mitch. Either way, the block transfer was great but so too was the read and recognition by Estime. I think the RBs have seen just as much improvement as the OL.

I expect the original plan was to run behind Alt who was sealing. Then the LB moved to fill that hole, abandoning the edge.

Perhaps Rees stays on. Freeman has to be happy with what happened with Clemson. The RB room is going to be crazy next year.

When the TEs buy into the physical run game, they are welcomed as honorary OLine by the Big Fellas.
Notre Dame personifies that sort of TE. It is a blessing and a curse, though. Coach Kelly saw this some years ago
and tried to make us competitive as a power football team emphasizing TE play. Great. We ARE TE-U.
But we aren't WR-U. I think that this has continually plagued us recruiting QBs and WRs.

I actually think leaving Thomas on the field as an extra receiver in 14 personnel is a good move and helps. Would love if he becomes a Claypool/Boykin type soon.

He'll also be calling the game on Saturday, right?
Hope so and maybe why he’s tweeting this stuff. But ugh, noon games are the worst, at least for us with kids in sports and stuff. Didn’t even realize this was a road game, TBH.

I think this is where we have to try and get back to our bread and butter in WR recruiting. It has been for the most part TE/Flex like WR's.

Del really did try and put a class full of these guys together his last year and we all know it just fell apart. Similar method so far with Chansi in the 2023 class. Looking over the 2024 WR offers theres a solid number that are 6'3ish as well including Cam.

Thomas and Merriweather appear to be the next in line and we look like we may have FINALLY found some true dynamic "little" guys to play on the perimeter in the 2023 class.

Now is the time to be QB at ND.

Personally I'd be stunned if Rees is still here for the 2023 season. Also probably going to see at least 1 RB enter the portal

Edwards and Love are going to make that room very full...not to mention Limar.

I think that was duo. If so, there really isn't a whole. Its a bunch of down blocks and double teams with the RB reading the LB. If the LB goes outside, a hole will likely open inside or the weak side could get a push and the RB can cut all the way back. If the LB goes inside, the RB bounces it outside. It's hard to know just from this clip, but they were probably identifying #25 as the read. He started to go inside, so Estime went outside.

OC might know just a bit what he’s doing. If only he could completely eliminate all third and longs.

elite yard to go but well below expected on conversion - woof.

So we're great on early downs (pressure on the OL and RB's)

We're shit on money downs (pressure on the QB)

Totally checks out right now. And we already saw Tommy adjusting to that in the Clemson game, calling for an outside zone/draw to Estime on a 3rd-and-long when he knew Clemson would be dropping 8.

Mixing in the threat of a 3rd-and-long run, when the defense wants to drop 8 to bracket Mayer and fluster Pyne, helps. Continuing to emphasize the idea of a check-down would also help mitigate the 3rd-down issues further.

(But we desperately need a legitimate playmaker at QB. My kingdom for a QB that can do all the cool shit Tommy wants to do.)

The QBs in that kind of over perform cluster are interesting. Cam Rising, Tanner, Morgan, Blake Shapen, Stetson Bennett, DTR, Michael Penix, Caleb Williams, Jaxon Dart and Drake Maye. Lot of vets or just elite bail you’re team out physical talent.

OK, since it's looking good on the Kenny Minchey front, I'm thinking TR may stay . Let's go get a solid experienced good/great transfer QB and get ready to roll in '23.
I'm back on the TR bandwagon boys!
