In college I did a summer semester in the Dominican Republic. We had talked to people who had recently spent a semester in the country. They raved about the corn topping on pizza. We ordered it, took one bite and knew that we had been duped. I’m almost certain it was field corn.

Can honestly say the only places I went to because of a review of his was making New Haven a must stop. My GF lives 10 minutes from Denino's and 5 minutes Lees. The ones I mentioned in NJ I've been going to since I was a little. We get pizza at the office from John's whenever we order in.

I will say, one of the better ones that would be close to this list is a Detroit style place in NYC is called Lions and Tigers and Squares... never been to Detroit though so no idea if it's like the real thing.

One of the more interesting ones that AB2's post about the corn pizza made me think of was a mustard pizza. Actually very popular in parts of this area. They mix it into the sauce. Wouldn't go out of my way for it, but some people love it.

Greater Cincy has seen a boom in pickle pizza... ranch sauce base with pickles and cheese baked over top.

I haven't felt the calling to try it yet lol.

My man. Pretty good list. Worked in Brooklyn by DiFara for a long time. The old man cutting the basil was awesome. Johnnys in Mt Vernon is good as well. I disagree on two points. The New Haven BS and the L&B upside down slice. Most overrated pizza I’ve ever had. Totonnos I’m Coney Island was legit too.

Holy Crap! I came on here thinking I would see something on Dante and it turns out to be a pizza pie palooza! Should a new thread dedicated to this passionate subject matter exist all on its own? I think discussing which chain is the shittiest which is more appropriate than which is the best since it is a discussion of the lesser of various evils.

I would suggest that individuals who know good pizza offer up their favs and the city and state they are located. Can be separated into thin crust, deep dish and in between.

Here’s a few I made for the game the other night. I call them Victory Pies! Not perfect shape but they still taste the same.

Are you actually questioning New Haven Style pizza? I live in NE PA and travel to NYC and New Haven for business often. The problem I have with the list is that Modern in New Haven should be on the list. New Haven pizza overrated stfu!

When I was 16 I made pizza at a place called Davincis in Elkhart. Great crust and pie as well.

Grew up in the Northeast. The best pizza is always [insert local place where you would go after basketball practice or pickup and bring home—almost never delivery because it’s not worth the delivery fee being so close by]’s Pizza. They always had the loud ass fan that sounded like a jet engine you could hear from the outside, smell the dough before you walked in, green and pink neon lights around all of the windows, had faded pictures of Italy on the walls, and a staff that barely spoke English. Don’t forget the little ceramic fat man holding up a pie in a chef’s hat. Bonus points if they served a Buffalo chicken or penne vodka pizza. Their wings were probably pretty good too, but you’d only ever get those for the super bowl.

Having transplanted to Chicago…Pequod’s is the move. Pub style thin crust cut into squares is just okay.
