As someone who grew up in a very Italian Philly suburb, I can’t believe what I’m reading. No one I knew growing up would even think of ordering from these shitty chains lmao.
Yeah, well, see how much time and money you're willing to spend when your kids demand plain cheese pizza.

Grew up on their food. Their thin crust pizza was a Friday night staple at our house.

We took our kids to dinner there on a Saturday night this past February. I ordered a pizza to take home.

As someone who grew up in a rural midwestern town of 12,000 in northern Indiana, our best non-chain pizza place was a little joint called Harvey Hinklemeyers. That name itself should tell you about the pizza most of us were raised on out here in the sticks.

Growing up in Cincinnati, I used to love the original Trotta's Pizza. We used to get a Lotta Trotta and house that shit.

10 best pizza places I've had, in no order. Would score these all above a 9.0 out of 10 on my pizza rankings.

DeNino's of Staten Island
Di Fara of Brooklyn
Sally's in New Haven, CT
Frank Pepe in New Haven, CT
Adrienne's square slice on Stone Street in Manhattan
John's of Bleeker in Manhattan
Pete and Elda's in Neptune, NJ (Bar Pie)
Vic's of Bradley Beach, NJ (Bar Pie)
Lee's on Staten Island (Bar Pie)
L&B Spumoni Garden square Sicilian in Brooklyn

New Haven, CT is the best pizza-city in the USA.

Of course. I'm not paying to cast pearls before swine either. My kids' school got a 50% off promo code to Papa John's years ago that somehow was never removed from their system. Always happy to order that for them.

They can enjoy a Pizza Margherita and a Negroni with me at Pomo when they're older.

I live in Massachusetts where the ubiquitous “House of Pizza” type joints (local/independent hole-in-the-wall pizza/sub places found basically everywhere) makes chain pizza seem pointless.

I think there’s one Papa John’s within delivery distance of me. We got it once when my wife was feeling nostalgic for college, but that was an error we did not repeat.

Weren't they just in K Marts for a while? The Noble Romans I mean
I'm not sure. I think there was a LC in the KMart near us at one time. When Noble Romans first started back in the 70's they had three or four locations in Indy. They expanded quite a bit and I think that's what did them in. Then the owners of St. Elmo's bought them, but I don't know what the rest of the history is, but they just seemed to disappear except for the few.

Because when I think of authentic Italian food, I think of BBQ ribs.

All y'all off the mark. Need some of that authentic pizza napoletana from across the pond.
I prefer an authentic NY slice

I was more surprised than triggered by the fact that's the first pic you see on the home page. They didn't have ribs on the menu when I was growing up.

My guess is they've had to diversify the menu a bit in order to stay open as long as they have. So many of the other joints on the NW Side are no longer there.

I learned from my vacation to Italy this past summer that a margherita pizza in Italy is a bit different than in the US. Over there it’s just a plain old cheese pizza lol. Also, Moretti is the best Italian beer.

You just need to know where to look.

Jockamo's, very good as is The Ordinary, Brozinni's (NY style), Bazbeaux's, Greeks Pizzeria and Giordano (Chicago style).
Bronzinni's is legit as well.

Yes. Detroit Style Pizza is the bees knees! Buddy's is the best, Cloverleaf is also legit. If ya'll ever find yourself in metro-Detroit for whatever reason (insert Detroit jokes below, I'm used to it), do yourself a favor and find the closest Buddy's pizza and thank me later.
Buddy’s smacks. A Detroit native college buddy of mine recommended it and I gotta say that’s nearly as good as any pizza you’ll find anywhere

There's a couple of those in Indy. My issue is they like to bake it and it sits for a while. They throw your slice back in the oven when you order so it gets a little dry. It's best if you wait until they take it out of the oven to really enjoy, but that could be a while depending on how busy they are.
