These aren't perfectly reasonable points in the Charles Jagusah thread. He's highly ranked and we're hopeful we get him. They would be acceptable in the Offensive line thread.

Mike isn't wrong.

I don't think any one would care if a mod moved it over there. But the sanctimony is a little tedious.

Well, slick, it wasn't much of a complaint. Most people who visit IE like to think that the thread titles actually mean something so they don't have to click in to see irrelevant comments when information about a recruit was what's "advertised."

When there is actual information in a thread about a recruit, I do not believe that I'm wasting my time. Sad that you do.

We can all agree: plenty of interesting discussions that would better be placed in the Offensive Line Thread. OMM has a valid point that Jagusah's thread isn't the best place for those discussions. Perhaps Mods can move it? I dig it either way.

Go Irish!

I dont get the people who complain about threads being derailed. You're already wasting your time reading about where a 16 year old wants to go to college. Relax.

Yep. Although I agree with OMM that keeping a thread clean is a worthy goal (if pursued modestly).

That’s fine, but if you look back at the thread you’ll notice that your mega-post at #241 and others are among the worst offenders.

The fact is that people disagreed about the recruiting and development record of our excellent coach. And some people—not naming name— continually injected ad hominem attacks on the posters as being essentially spoiled know-nothings into the thread. That is what many of us call … obnoxious.

So when you then shift to the “purity of the thread” argument, as if you hadn’t been part of the conversation that derailed it, it’s a little rich.

You object to post 241 in the context of the negative commentary at that time about Coach Hiestand?
You believe that it shouldn't have been posted exactly there? (ten thumbs up disagree with you.)
That post was about the main ND staff member who is recruiting Jagusah, and his teaching technique.
And there is no "ad hominen" anywhere in it. The only times a comment was directed to an IE-er was when such was just laid on me by that poster. I try NOT to talk directly to any of the posters (for obvious reasons made currently very clear.)
The noise in the thread isn't about coaching, it's all the comment about outsider (non-staff) talkers and whether they are better than one another. Apparently that distinction isn't relevant.

I did not say that you were using ad hominem. Others were.

But if you were saying that the discussion about non-staff talkers, and not the discussion of HH, was what was off-topic--which I don't think is at all obvious based on where your post was in the thread--then I apologize for the bad vibes. I read it as if it was directed at my posts. My point was that my posts were no more off-topic than yours (I did not think that yours were particularly off-topic).

Again, if that's the case, my bad and I owe you a beer if we ever meet!

(However, I do think there is a good argument that all of it could get moved over to the O-line thread.)

I am of the crew that doesn't like threads getting too derailed. When I come looking for info, I generally would like to find info. I don't have unlimited time, but love IE and the updates on recruits/players. That being said, I think Jagusah is all Irish and a huge get. Love some stud wrestlers on the line.

If we stay healthy up front, I have no doubt Harry will resurrect this line, which honestly was much improved in the back half of the schedule. Alt was such a pleasant surprise. Blake is going to maul some dudes this year. The depth is impressive, too.

I'm guessing whomever cuts Alt's hair needs a step ladder even after he sits in the chair. That's assuming he fits in the chair.

Can you imagine all of those dudes walking into Golden Corral together! lol
LOL I'm assuming they quick put up the closed sign as they see them approaching.

Interesting to hear Harry’s differing opinion from Freeman about the players who struggled with the heat during the first practice.
I like that Harry has his guy's backs as long as he can see them exerting themselves completely. He seemed adamant that they gave all they could and they'll acclimate.

I also like that Freeman is telling them the standard is higher than what they can achieve the first day.

There is room for both coaches to be correct in their assessments.

Yeah, I liked him having the player's backs there. Some of these journalists have probably never had to endure a two-a-days in the August heat with pads and a helmet on, even at a high school level.

Hope HH is preping the line for TB scrambling a lot
Definitely gonna need more 2 TE sets, and Tyree probably ends up in the Slot more often which won't be an awful thing. Means the Freshmen WRs and Colzie will all have to step up too.
