Sounds like Italy and Germany have said no to cutting off SWIFT access at this time . US needs them on board to do so.

Our own former president calls Putin a genuis for attacking an ally after he tried to extort them in exchange for protection. Fox News is literally carrying RT's ball sweat right now in spinning Putins actions in a positive light.
Come on dude, you know better. Trump has always made it a point to express tactical moves that are smart for the person/country making them. Such as when he said at the UN gathering We intend to put America first, and we encourage every country to put their country first, or something close to that.

Beyond that he clearly said "If I was President this wouldn't be taking place." So the notion you are pushing here that Trump is "Pro Russia" is bogus. Stop with the extreme bias

Need to figure out a way to assassinate Putin and stop this shit. Either that or shut off Russia's access to everything and make them dependent on themselves.
Ding ding. We have a winner. Brocade Russia like we did Cuba! NATO needs to step up!

Maybe if we focused on renewable energy instead of doubling down on oil it would have been easier. But it’s not like anyone has been saying that for decades.
Quite the opposite. Merkel opted to decommission all of Germany's nuclear power plants over the objections of her domestic opponents that doing so would make them overly dependent on Russia. Lo and behold, that's exactly the position they find themselves in currently. Coincidentally, Germany is currently blocking the imposition of economic sanctions on Russia. I wonder why?

I had heard news of them decommissioning the nuclear plants, but why? It's literally a cleaner solution than oil and it doesn't make you indebted to Russia.

We're just not used to going to war with countries that can actually retaliate and hurt average Americans so we have no perspective on this kind of thing. We're used to beating up on 3rd would countries for the last 70 years, war with countries like Russia is a whole different animal.

Russia has been preparing this for some time, Europe's energy crisis this winter wasn't a coincidence. If everyone in chat was paying $15/gallon gas we'd throw Ukraine under the bus to get gas prices down just like Germany is.

I’m equally hyped/saddened by this ghost of Kiev thing,… if it’s real, hell yeah!! And,… If it’s real, he’s likely dying a hero to his people in a matter of days,… that sucks. Good thing none of us have to show that level of heroism,… right?

The 2011 Fukushima disaster, Greta Thunberg, ecofascist activism, etc.

Any "green" energy policy that doesn't prominently feature nuclear is utterly unserious. Just underscores how historically inept the current Davos set is.

I have no particular issue with nuclear as a technology but by "feature" nuclear what policies do you support for nuclear and be specific. And how do you feel about Biden proposing $6 billion to keep money losing nuclear plants open?

Necessary for grid reliability and for states to meet carbon goals. The subsidized renewables are driving down the market prices for baseload power and crushing necessary firm generation sources. We've subsidized wind and solar to where they are now price competitive. Those subsidies should end.

Totally agree just slap a carbon tax and let market forces figure it out.

Also when people cite France and their nuclear industry their whole electric sector is a nationalized monopoly and their nuclear power industry is basically an arm of the state. Somehow I don't think that's what the American right wing has in mind.

We are coming up on damn near 30 years of climate political activists screaming about the problems while offering up entirely unserious solutions.

I'll have to disagree on the lack of nuclear meaning its not serious given the wealth of developing options for longer term storage, but I can 100% it is completely idiotic to be closing any nuclear plants early now. And what's even worse than the fact that Merkel closed those plants and forced Germany into a greater reliance on Russian fossil fuels is that she probably thought she was doing the right thing because they so often work on the absolutism that increased trade means decreased risk of conflict.

Is nuclear power a renewable energy source? That’s to me. In any case, my hometown is where Three Mile Island is so I’m a hard no on nuclear energy. And 79 was a bit of a scary year for the locals (speaking from a 7the hrader’s POV). And follow-up epidemiology studies have linked incidents to cancers and other medical conditions in the population. The fuel inside those reactors had to be constantly monitored and stayed there for a long long time afterward exactly because that fuel isn’t renewable and is extraordinarily dangerous.

Solar, wind, tidal, geo-thermal, etc. — those are the renewables that we should focus upon IMO. Obviously they aren’t the solution in the short term, but if we were smarter a few decades ago, we’d be in a better place today, Merkel’s decision notwithstanding.

More like a plane once crashed into my house so I’d prefer not to live in it anymore or anywhere near the airport for that matter.
