Coan and Buchner are not Kelly QBs. That's how teams like 'Bama and Clemson win. We win with guys like Rees and Book. I fully expect Pyne to start for the next 3 years.

I feel like this would inevitably lead to Buchner's transfer. Or am I just overreacting with the Jurkovec situation?

Just a thought, but wouldn't the higher ceiling for this offense in the next few years be with Buchner at QB, given his raw talents and running ability? If that were the case, you'd think the best scenario is Coan and try to work Buchner in with some live game action with a few packages, get his feet wet.

Maybe I'm way off base here.

I actually dont mind who the QB is so long as they win ND a natty, get the heisman, goes number 1 then out does Brady's NFL career and comes back and coaches ND to a decad of dominanance.

Exactly! Is this too much to ask?

I get it! and part of me wants Conan to be Joe Burrow, and well that would be awesome. But I can’t help but feel for these kids that pour their heart and soul into something only to be passed on by what we feel is best for the team type of mentality. I want to have a ride or die mentality, but I also want this team like all the rest to be successful. It’s a tough position certainly. I can’t help that I don’t trust Kelly with our QB’s, even though he has done so well. If Alabama wins another NC with Bryce Young, Well… I’ll be beside myself.

Got the ball out quickly and made good decisions. Fumble was bad protection iirc. Am I crazy for thinking he deserves the chance to prove himself as the starter going forward?

Showed some BDE today. Small sample size (pun intended)
but he looked pretty good. Most importantly he looked poised and didn’t panic and run himself into a bunch of sacks like Coan does.

Looked more decisive than Coan in small sample size. Also, more quick footed, which I did not expect. Team seems to love him too.

We should use 3 QBs rest of season.

I don’t think that’s legitimately out of the question. Coan still brings something throwing the ball downfield but this OL doesn’t do a good enough job in pass pro. I’d like to see Buch or Pyne to start games, drives, halves, etc and get some first downs. We need to move the chains more consistently to not out our defense in such bad spots. Then bring in Coan between the 40’s or something to see if we can hit some big plays.

I legit feel like he's Ian book 2.0.... Just not as fleet of foot but more than I thought he was. If they said he's our starter moving forward I wouldn't argue it for the time being

If he's Ian Book but not as fleet of foot, maybe he's a better passer?

I think his ability to scramble with no hesitation to get the ball out quickly caught Wisconsin off guard…….definitely worked to our advantage.

They say if you have 3 QBs...you have 3 QBs.

Credit to Tommy for getting Pyne ready this week, and of course credit to Pyne for executing coming off the bench!

Very happy for this kid. Played great despite some questionable no calls for PI and defensive holding.

I've played enough video games to know the developers must have given him higher stats elsewhere if his footspeed is lower than Ian's.

Grenades? Endless ammunition? Health? A surface to air missile? Invisibility cloak? What are we talking about here Whiskey?

Cheers and Go Irish!!

yeah the offense and the passing game really picked up when he came into the game. I am not sure why pyne is 3rd string, I would love to see him start vs cincy. pyne has a quick release, he's accurate with the ball and he's athletic and make plays with his legs, coan isn't any of those things. I like coan but to me pyne was very sharp.

Check out Drew Pyne’s body language pre-game, and check out how he rallies the troops to go get a TD for Jack after getting into the game. Elite teammate.

I think it's a little misleading to say he's 3rd string. I don't know who would've went in the game had Buch been healthy but I think Buch has been playing to jump start the running game. Not necessarily because he's 2nd on the depth chart.

Finally they gave us the walk to add to the personal gif library

The media did the dance on if Coan thinks it’s a revenge game or not. Definitely seems like same with his teammates Coan may not have been yelling f these guys in the huddle but teammates from Pyne to MTA could tell how much it meant to him

I agree with this. I think Pyne is 2nd string to Jack Coan's position of QB running the usual offense. Buchner is first string for his position of QB running our power option offense. Next year that will obviously change because they'll need to pick "the guy", but I don't think the coaches really think of Coan/Pyne and Buchner playing the same position in terms of strategy this year.

Love Jack going over to Pyne after he led the TD drive for him. That's a real teammate.

And right before that, Pyne addressing the Offense: "Let's go punch one in for Jack boys....let's go punch one in for him." That's next level comradery. Dude transfers in, beats you for the starting job, and you still put the team first. You can't teach that.
