Welcome aboard. Keep posting.

Who knows what the issue may be, but vaccine stuff would be welcomed news I think with all other possibilities out there.

BTW, reminder to everyone to NOT throw out baseless theories or rumors without some sort of solid backing. We won't let you just bad mouth recruits. Until this is address by Coach Kelly or Botelho himself, I don't think we'll have any kind of an idea.

Definitely. And thanks for the welcome. Hopefully, it's nothing that derails his career or, more importantly, his life. We're squarely in that time of year where any unexpected news about a current player increases the heart rate.

Sounds like Driskell is about to talk about Botelho shortly on his podcast/youtube show.

"I don't believe it involves recreational drugs. I don't believe it involves another person beyond Botelho.

I asked if the NCAA had conducted any testing of the Notre Dame football players. I was told no. For example, a positive test for something like PEDs with the NCAA would result in a season-long suspension."

Where do you get "it could be drug related"?

PED's are not recreational drugs. So, not rec drugs, not an NCAA PED test, but nothing about it not being a ND conducted PED test (idk if they even do those). Not gonna speculate any further, but just wanted to answer your question.

Long time forum viewer, 1st time poster. I don't have access to the premium boards, so am certainly missing some details some of the other posters here may have (although it sounds like there hasn't been much in terms of concrete information).

All that being said, and this thought is all speculation, I do remember him having issues with COVID compliance a while back. ND is also requiring its students to be fully vaccinated for the fall semester (with the exception of a few religious and medical exemptions). Perhaps he is refusing the vaccine or some other measure of COVID compliance. We are getting close enough to the fall semester where the issue of not being vaccinated would be coming up.

there as a guy at Washington called Puka Nacua. He was like a 4 star WR but transferred to Utah over the summer. Apparently he was totally anti-vax and was responsible for spreading covid through their team (at one point they had zero OL and had to postpone games) and they just got sick of him and and told him to leave the program which he did. Not saying Jordan is like this but it's happened and many Mormon kids have similar attitudes when it comes to matters like this

Driskell pretty much kept saying he has heard some things, but wont dive into them. Then said that from what he has been told they are not expecting any suspensions.

This is a bit off point for the Bothelo discussion and I’m not familiar with the story about Puka Nacua. My understanding is that current CDC thinking is COVID can be spread by both vaccinated and unvaccinated people if they have the virus in their system, independent of any symptoms being present. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to determine who is spreading the virus since it could be spread by vaccinated or unvaccinated players. It appears the key reason to be vaccinated at this point is to reduce the likelihood of serious illness to yourself. This is a relatively new bit of information so what may have happened with Puka may have been unfortunate for him. If Jordan is not wanting to be vaccinated (which, of course, is a total guess on our parts) then it will be interesting to see how ND handles their mandatory vaccination directive based on the new and ever changing CDC guidance. I’m sure there will be much more that we learn about COVID and any future variants.

Very responsible journalism. Let something out so you’re first, then actually give people less info then the other journalists are and back pedal from it. F- job by Driskell.

Hopefully it’s all a lot of nothing that got people hyped up……..not ideal but I would prefer that to fire behind the smoke.

To be fair to Driskell on this one, it sounds like he just didn't mention Botelho in a defensive preview, then someone asked why the lack of input, so he answered with the cryptic stuff when prompted.

Maybe he was fishing or expecting someone to ask him about the notable lack of Botelho intel, so he was setting it up to get his 'scoop' out there... but the world may never know.

I was thinking along the second paragraph lol

Driskell is either an idiot for omitting one of our most disruptive DL. Or he's a hack for the way he's handled this. I'll go with the latter based on previous experience but he could also just be an idiot.

I agree w/ Sampson that we won’t know until it’s reported if he lines up at Vyper in practice. BK can’t say much b/c of student privacy so I doubt we learn anything on Saturday.

As others have said, the emphasis on *recreational* drugs seems to allow for other kinds of drugs. Likewise, Prister only got a denial that *the NCAA* was testing players. He also says later in the thread that it would either be he's eligible or he isn't for the entire year, not a 2 or 4-game suspension.

I think this all screams positive in-house PED test.

Thanks for pointing this out. It's not our job to police or do the mods' jobs, but when people start speculating "character issues" or the like without 1) knowing the situation or 2) knowing the individual personally, I'm really not sure what you're trying to solve.

Have to be patient. Wait and see.

It doesn't make sense to test in-house for PEDs and suspend the kid the whole year. If that is the case, why not just let them take their chances on NCAA testing? It seems like the reason to test in-house is to catch the kid, then advise him to stop before he DOES get caught by the NCAA (and loses a year). And then maybe test them more frequently to keep them honest.

PED tests are also much more expensive than a standard drug test. If ND tested the whole football team they would be out around $50,000.

highly doubtful they ever test the whole team at once for anything. there may be a random program or maybe they were aware of the potential and decided to find out.

Will likely be some time before anything substantive comes out.

As Jordan has had some instances in the past of potentially not seeing his future at ND, would it be safe to say if he does face a season suspension he would be in the portal?

Sampson just mentioned him in a story about the Hawaiian players. Could be nothing, could be something.

If it's PEDs he should just come out and tell everyone he's transitioning from four star ILB to Mike Mamula type edge rusher.
