“When I came in on my visit and went into his office, I just saw rings on the table,” said Echols. “That’s one message I received from coach Kelly. These guys win. Coach Kelly was telling me that I don’t pick Notre Dame, but Notre Dame picks me. He says I could be a great fit there. He said that if I’m ready to come compete and work and be great in the classroom and on the field, Notre Dame is the place for me. I just appreciated the honesty.”

“Coach Gilmore is a really good coach,” said Echols. “Man, he loves going over technique and fundamentals. I appreciate that a lot about him. I can absolutely see him being my coach.”

“CJ Is the funniest guy I know,” said Echols. “I really enjoyed being around him at Notre Dame and then again here at The Opening. I could see myself being on his team and just being with him and getting hyped on game day and playing on national television every week.”

“I know it’s going to be live during the game and I want to hangout more with the commits,” said Echols. “I want to go back up there one more time and see if that’s maybe my future home.”

“I like Notre Dame. I like Michigan. I like USC. I like Washington and Arizona,” said Echols. “I don’t really have an order, but I have those schools up there with UCLA. But yeah, I really like Notre Dame and USC and obviously UCLA.”

Yea, it's really strange. Multiple sites post all of these great and positive updates about Echols and ND. Quote after quote about how much he likes ND, and then they talk about him not leaving the west coast. I think it's just another battle of knowing ND is the right place for him vs being comfortable of the west coast.

Echols and Paschal would be a great close to the DL class after Ewell.

SoCal kids are always a tough pull, but I'd rather be battling UCLA for them than USC. We'll see.

Because we've done so well with defensive ends from California.

I really don't like beefin' on here. We're all Irish fans and I love, being from Canada with no one around me being a hardcore ND fan, being able to come on here and talk ND football. But these kind of comments and constant "We're doomed!!" and other constant pessimism makes me consider not coming on this site anymore. Let's hope we get this kid. Geeze Louise!

Having been a member of a number of different forums over the past few years, a certain amount of pessimism is going to exist on pretty much any ND board you visit. Lots of ND fans (my self included) who have varying degrees of Battered Fan Syndrome and don't want to get their hopes up because they've been burned multiple times in the past. It's a defense mechanism more than anything.

What you will really get a kick out of is when this kid commits and then some of the doomsday posters will be saying "I knew it a month ago". Need to take the bad with the good. IE is one of the best ND football forums you will find.

I can't wait to see your reaction in a game day thread when ND is losing.

Add in the comments about him being committed to the team hence his comments about not wanting to play in the NFL.

I just don't come on the site during or after game day. Pisses me off to much, win or lose.

IE is, without a doubt, THE best ND football forum you will find in the history of the internet. There isn't a better one. There will never BE another better one.

I love visiting IE after a win.

But I love pain and suffering, and I love good gallows humor.

Visiting after a loss and stomaching/moderating the idiots who get out-of-control (and drunk) has its grizzly, entertaining, and sometimes downright funny merits.

Spoken like a man who has a good perspective on the ultimate importance of college football in the scheme of things.

Oh don't get me wrong.

I love to curse, get pissy, and treat everyone around me like general garbage if ND loses. My poor wife has to deal with me being an ass around the house all week.

But my attitude after frustrating losses has gotten much better after several years around IE, experiencing other like-minded individuals who seemingly take things harder than I do haha.

I second this. Postgame threads are redonk. Drunk people bitch, drunk people claim we're winning the natty after beating a midtier team, people will claim we have at least 3 players who'll be invited to the Heisman ceremeony, people will start talking about firing Kelly or asking whether he's really a good coach.

People will complain about not running enough, or running too much. About not playing to our strengths, about not dictating the pace. BVG will be eviscerated after poor defensive performances. Drunks will proclaim ND will never see 'the glory days' again.

The secret trolls will make impossible predictions, only to show up and try to burn the program down after a bad performance.

Back to Echols from ISD:

Not feeling the bruins so much anymore. Thought distance was ultimately going to keep him from ND, but this no longer appears to be the case. Irish on the upswing.

If Mike and Co are feeling better about this recruitment, I'm feeling good.

Especially interesting considering we offered Jamire on June 23rd.

Wouldn't be surprised if both ended up at Arizona State.

I'd bet a lot of money Echols does not end up at UCLA, but I sorta doubt he ends up at ND too.

Why would an education first kid like Echols end up at Arizona State though? That would go against everything he has said about what he wants out of a college experience.

Same theory as why "I really, really care about engineering and education" Da'Shawn Hand ended up at Alabama over Virginia Tech and Michigan.

I basically don't really buy the fit of Echols at ND as much as some others. Just my opinion, could be very wrong. I was recently very wrong about our chances with Ewell.
