Just think of all of the camps they hit between now and signing day - this kid just might get in front of more talent than our coaches. Locking it up just before summer kicks into gear, he will be our stinking recruiting coordinator by the time he gets to campus.

Does anyone feel like this puts the Avery Davis commitment at risk?

Yes.

That absolutely has to be thought of as a possibility. I think his commitment has been at risk from Day 1. A&M could use him right now and Some think Kellan Mond might be drifting towards OSU so that would leave Baylor in need. Auburn offered Davis this morning (a good fit). The recruiters will be turning up the heat. It's should be expected. I said it here somewhere, I don't think he makes it to South Bend if Mond decommits from Baylor and or Jurkovec commits early.

If I were a top QB recruit, I would be much more encouraged by having Ian Book a year ahead of me than I would be discouraged by having Jurkovec behind me. By the time the hype surrounding Jurkovec really takes off, Davis will have already signed.

I think so too. He has the advantage of already being in the system a year by the time the guy even shows up.

This will be a great addition if it holds...but, oh......so long to go. As said previously, a commit by this stud this early only makes the 2017 and 2018 classes more attractive.

As long as he doesn't tweet a picture of his brand new Notre Dame golf bag and gold phone cover in the next few months..... It's a done deal he'll be in South Bend January or February 2018

And the first person that calls him an RKG will get a swift kick to the onions.

I can't really think of a current/former ND quarterback to compare him to. I thought of Kizer but I think Phil is more mobile and will develop a better arm. I'm gonna have to go with another really cliche answer and say that Phil reminds me of Marcus Mariota.

Phil reminds me of Phil.

I don't think a comparison to DK is a bad thing, except Phil is a football only kind of guy.

At this point (Soph year) I think Phil is about an inch-and-a-half taller, fifteen to twenty pounds heavier, has a better throwing motion, and a slightly more accurate arm.

With differences in offenses, etc., I cannot address any speed comparison, (not only are/were they both fast enough, they are/were a lot faster than people give them credit.) They have a completely different stride. The differences in their stride, make Phil look faster on film, but I am not sure that is the case. Peeps still don't know how fast Kizer is.

The other aspects, mental -- leadership I rate them both ten out of ten with what I have seen, and they both are obviously very bright and articulate. I don't know enough about Phil, but DeShone, is really intelligent, and quick to grasp, too. In any of these categories, I am not sure comparison between the two is necessary, because they both have enough to be deadly, even in the complexity of ND's offense.

Kizer never really gave away anything in high school, but Phil looks to be excellent with his eyes, discipline, and pump fakes. Beyond anything I would expect in a high schooler, let alone an underclassman.

Interesting. Mariota was recruited by many including ND but only Oregon and Memphis offered. As a HS senior (first year starting) he was 6-4 211 rated as a 3 star Dual QB. Rival ranked him #12 Dual QB. Oregon offered him before he started a HS game.

Gunner Kiel?

At first I was like, yeah... "no way, man. He's nothing like Gunner". (literally, I said it outloud while sitting on the toilet reading my phone). So I really quick went and watched Gunner's hs tape again. There are some similarities in their skill set, but Gunner ran an entirely different offense and has a different body type. Gunner is a big kid, but he was thick even as a high schooler. Phil is still skinny.

So I guess what i'm saying is that while they have some similarities, my original porcelain throne thought was correct. Both great high school prospects, but different.

i just finished watching some film and when I see Phil's long stride he looks more like Dayne Crist than Kiel really.

Kiel's HS film is pretty good btw :(

You are right. But DeShone was invested in three sports through high school. And it would have been five, if he could. And he played at an all-state level at them all.

Phil is a great two sport high schooler. But I still think you will see a distinction if you go back and look at DK's high school years!

The more sports the merrier.
