I always like Grace but sometimes you need to realize that all things come to an end.

Yeah, but if I played football for Notre Dame and had no shot at the NFL, they would have to drag me off of that field kicking and screaming.

I would be keeping my helmet too!

This. Put yourself in Grace's shoes for a second. No way he turns this down if it's a possibility for him.

Agree. Will there be room for him anyway? Hope he can stick around. Dang shame that injury slowed him down.

He's a Mendoza guy so he's probably going after his MBA right now. An extra year to finish it up makes sense. He can apply for the 6th year and then sign a medical if the staff wants to move other players up the depth chart instead.

Why exactly would we want him back? Bringing him back would send even more confusing messages. Joe Schmidt is playing bad...historically bad...the worst I've ever seen a ND middle linebacker play...ever...and Jarrett Grace is not even a consideration by BK to take his spot this year.

This.

Also, anything to keep Morgan off the field.

Player development is very important for building a program. So the expectation should be that Morgan, Martini, etc. are getting better. However, what if they don't. It would be nice to have a seasoned guy able to play.

I would LOVE to have him back for a 6th year, but I don't think he's eligible. He played too much in 2013 for that year to be counted as a medical redshirt. He needed to have missed two seasons due to injury, like Hounshell did.

2011 - normal redshirt, not aware of any injuries that held him out. I could be wrong.
2012 - played
2013 - played 6 games, too many to qualify for medical redshirt
2014 - medical redshirt
2015 - played

If they held him out for the rest of the year for "lingering issues" or something of that nature, would that be a way? He hasn't had a ton of PT this year unless I have been missing him on special teams.

That wouldn't work. He's played in every game this year.

The only way I can see it happening is if there was an injury they could point to freshman year, but I'm not aware of any.

I think they'll petition the NCAA for a 6th year, but I'd be very surprised if they're successful.

Sometimes it's about taking care of your own. Jarrett suffered a horrible injury putting on the blue and gold, and all he has done is bust his ass to get back and help the team in any way possible.

He may never play another meaningful down but his value added goes far beyond that.

Wouldn't mind seeing him as a GA in the not-too-distant future.

He got 5 years of the best education a guy like him could possibly receive. That's what? $180,000 education right there and a degree in hand, plus invaluable post-grad work. Love Werewolf and all, and I welcome him back to try for a spot, but there's no way in Hell you hold a spot from this year's class for him. Just my $.02.

Hey, do me a favor. Tell me last time we had 85 on scholly come August.

I don't doubt that Kelly and co would rather have 85 guys that have never been injured and all play at a high level. Just doesn't/hasn't happened. If this is the year then maybe they have a tough conversation with Grace. However, let him apply for his 6th, keep him through spring and summer and see where chips fall.

I think they have something in the works, and this interview may be the best college interview I have ever seen when Jac Collinsworth is not involved.

Too bad, for a lot of reasons.

Guy was/is a great ND team player and deserved better luck with his career. I'd feel better about middle linebacker knowing that we still had him as a fall-back option.

Always thought this kid was gonna be a captain and a future NFL backer. Sucks so damn much about his knee but he never once complained and fought his way all the way back after no one really gave him a shot. Thanks for the 5 years Grace and everything you have done here. To bad you couldn't beat out 38 this year =]

That's sad. If anyone deserved a 6th year it's him. He missed 1 1/2 seasons essentially and he sat out 2011. He's had 2 1/2 years on the field.

Just saw this. Notre Dame man. He just exudes passion for the university and his brothers on the field. Sad to see him go.

IE has to put a stop with the Notre Dame man thing, it makes 0 sense IMO

Exactly, when I first started seeing it I thought it was a parody of Michigan's whole "Michigan Man" thing that they often throw around, but seeing people argue whether or not someone earns the designation is stupid as hell (I think it was in the Jaylon smith thread where it was really bad)

Thank you, I mean we stole the whole team 127 thing from them. Now the Notre Dame man thing. I know we pretty much built our stadium like them and they supposedly taught us how to play the game but we don't need to try and be like them anymore.

If you think ND Man and Michigan Man have anything in common you should put down the bottle.

Plenty of universities do the same thing, not just Michigan. Michigan just happens to be the first one that comes to mind because they're lame and they abuse it a lot. "Notre Dame man" is a compliment and it has nothing to do with those asswipes in Ann Arbor.

Man, and people say I have Michigan on the brain... ~President of the Fuck USC and Fuck Michigan Club.
