With the emergence, or what I think is the emergence, of Hunter Jr. I think its going to be hard for Sanders to get snaps on offense as a freshman. However, I'm really excited about this kid long term.

How many days of emerging is required for an emergence?

I think we're going to see CJ sooner rather than later on special teams. You're right though, it'll be hard for any of the freshman WRs to get PT in this offense. The depth is insane.

Please staff, no Procise in the return game. You've got a 10.6 - 100m guy in Sanders who can handle it and even if he can't... he'll act like it.

Agree with both of you. I think CJ can earn time on special teams but I'd be absolutely shocked if one of our freshmen take snaps in the offense (outside of Alize). It means a freshman could out-speed Fuller or outjump Corey or out-athlete Brown/Hunter/Holmes/Carlisle, which I just can't see. Maybe Boykin will earn a role as a blocker in some designed run plays but even that will be difficult with our TE sets.

The question becomes: Is THJr really emerging? If so, does he take a slot position from Carlisle or does line up outside? Or both? Will he be good enough to earn consideration as the #2 option?

It has more to do with the mental than the physical. I think Sanders IS faster than Fuller. Miles Boykin CAN out-jump Robinson. Boykin, St. Brown, Guyton and Sanders WILL be able to out athlete the upper classmen in certain areas.

But in the end, they're still true freshmen between the ears. I will agree, Aliz'e Jones will play. He's a once in a generation TE prospect (well at most schools). I wouldn't be surprised if he leads the team in receptions in 4 or 5 games this year.

Well considering we've only had a few practices its pretty hard to be certain but thats my way too early impression that I feel good about. I liked him better than most coming out and he finally looks ready to compete. If he has his head around the offense I'll take him over Amir everyday of the week.

I think Prosise would be an absolute stud kick returner. He's the best athlete we have on offense IMO, I think the coaches know they need to get him 10 touches per game.

I know Prosise's a stud irishfan and probably the best suited for the job but he's also your #2 RB and the 3 guys behind him have never been in a college backfield.

Just trying to keep him healthy and available.

Agreed there completely. BK made some comment also the other day about being wary of putting him on any Special Teams units. Sanders would probably be my 2nd choice back there, but I'd be tempted to roll the dice if I were the coaches and just put the best guy back there whoever it is.

Braver man that me! I like to see an upperclassman with experience and confidence back there week 1 against Texas but after that I hope it's whoever is the best at it regardless of class.

Not to disagree completely because I do believe this is a loaded class but your post has the "new toy syndrome". I believe that even if all of the freshman were mentally on par with the upper classmen, they'd still not fully win out. Not many receivers are going to best Fuller and not many players are going to outjump Robinson (and catch the ball). I guess this discussion is a great thing to have less than 30 days from Texas.

I like it and think that's where he'd be most effective with Brown/Robinson occupying the other outside receiver position.

Not saying you are doing this but our outside WR needs to be able to do more than just that. Which is why he hasn't won the job outright yet.

Understood and I don't want to be pedantic about it. All I was intending with my post was to say that the new guys would need to beat our best players at their best qualities but in reality that's only true, as you allude, if they are well rounded in all facets of "receiver-ing".

If our upperclassmen were one trick ponies then I'd expect them to be displaced but I believe all of our players are committed to perfecting their craft and they have x number of years on the frosh.

I wouldn't mind seeing Brent get a full head of steam on k.o.r.

He wouldn't be easy to take down, that's for sure.

I can't tell if he has lost any quickness with his muscle gains since high school, but I doubt he has lost any straight line speed.

ie: He's faster than quick... ;)

We can't get Prosise hurt returning kicks. If he can catch/hold the ball why not put CJ back there?

Which really on kor is ideal, IMO. Get going, 1 cut or broken tackle and hit the hole. Now PR is where you want that joystick quickness.

He's obviously solid in the wedge formation.

Well then Brent's our guy. He has consistently hit the hole more effectively, both harder and faster with deeper penetration, than any other Irish player since cumming to South Bend.

He's going to be a good one. I can't wait for him to get some offensive touches next year.

You think we will get quite a bit of Freshman All-Americans?

CJ Saunders - Return Man
Justin Yoon - Kicker
Josh Adams - RB
Jerry Tillery - DT
