Off the top of my head:

Greenberry, Vanderdoes, Dickerson, Decker, Darby

All in January or later I'm pretty sure.

We also lost the CB from Texas Bennett Okotcha to Oklahoma (who I believe is now at UTSA).

Ok. So we just flip guys earlier than others schools? We moved to quick on Redfield, Golson, Bryant, Fuller, Smythe, Jones, Randolph, etc?

It sucks to lose the guys, but we gained an awful lot through flips as well. It's the nature of the beast. It's ugly, but it is what it is right now.

What the hell, did UCLA do some backhand favor for ND years ago that now requires an annual defensive tackle tribute as repayment?

Sucks but I cant help but thinking that the switch to Under Armour has something to do here..........

lol you can't be serious

Guess I just don't understand your point GK. Sorry. It's frustrating and I bet BK and his staff is frustrated by it more than we are, but recruiting is ugly because it involves the emotional manipulation of 17 year olds. Because of that, it is extremely volatile and unpredictable.

I think BK's staff has been very good recruiters. Every staff loses kids (yes even this late). It may seem like the sky is falling the last few years in regards to high profile guys around ND, but that's what happens when you are in it with high profile kids getting pulled in a thousand different directions. They change their minds constantly, and they make mistakes.

I'm just saying we have lost more than gained this late in the game. All those you guys we mentioned decommitted before January which gives the staff time to find replacements. And many of them decommitted from X school, opened up their recruiting process and then committed to ND. Most of our decommits have flipped to another school almost immediately.

And I'm not even counting our transfers/other situations like Neal and Tee. The only transfer we have accepted in recent memory was Prestwood. Meanwhile we've lost 4 or 5.

My point is just that we have crap luck. That's all. And the bigger point is that maybe we need to think about oversigning seriously. But that's another debate for another day.

so is the consensus from those in the know on here that; if not for the sudden and unexpected illnesses of his mom and dad that matt would have been irish? is this what we are to believe? if so, this is a hollow recruiting victory for mora and ucla IMO. he is going there because he had to--not becasue he wanted to.

I think ND can be an easy target sometimes to recruit against, especially for warm weather kids. Change is hard, especially when it's from sunny Cali or Florida to South Bend.

Kids can lose sight of all the ND brings to the table when being pressured by scumbags like Mora for a day or two, and months of great recruiting is all gone because of an impulsive decision that is most usually the easy way out for the kids.

But that brings us to another point. While it would be great to have all those talents here at ND, but choosing the easy way out at the end and ditching ND, aren't they showing their true natures? And wouldn't you rather have kids who DON'T take the easy way out at ND? Especially considering how prevalent transfers are now in NCAA FB?

On the flip side, we have gotten our share of commits late in the game that were once committed to other schools. Just last year alone I remember EV, Redfield, and Bryant. I don't remember if Folston was every committed elsewhere but we got into it late in the game though we came very close to losing him in the end. Also got Amir and Prestwood as transfers. Prestwood didn't work out, though. And though they were committed to us and then decommitted, we also got Lynch and Tuitt to flip back to us late in the game. Gunner Kiel flipped to us very late, as well. It goes both ways. I hate losing guys but am always ecstatic when we get a highly rated recruit to flip to us. It may just seem like we lose more guys than other schools but I'm not so sure that is the case. There have been a lot of decommits for other schools this year.

You said, "They change their minds constantly, and they make mistakes" --which I agree with. If that's true, then yes, I do wish they were at ND. Because most of these kids aren't bad kids, they are just taking bad advice. Just because they are the type of kid that is unsure about where they want to go to school doesn't mean I don't want them playing for ND.

Golson "took the easy way out." Would you prefer that he didn't come to ND?

Greg Bryant decommited from Oklahoma in July. Redfield in November. I did forget that Amir transferred though.

We ran 4 man fronts at least half the time last year, and it could increase with BVG coming in. I just don't think a pure nose is as important as people think.

Not true at all, NT is the most important. The lack of depth at NT is a reason we're running more and more 4 man fronts. If you ask any 3-4 experts, they will tell you that the NT is THE most important position in that defensive scheme. If you don't have a good NT, you don't have a 3-4. You can't just plug a standard DT into that scheme and successfully stop offenses, you absolutely need a NT that can often eat 2 blocks and take up space. If he's getting stalemated by one blocker, then the guards are able to get to the second level, take your LBs out of play, and you're done. I'd expect we're going to see more and more 4-3 as our NT depth continues to become non-existent. We'll probably only go with a 3 man front when it's an obvious passing down, although we've still put Shembo's hand in the dirt when that happens.

The 3–4 nose tackle is considered the most physically demanding position in football.[9] His primary responsibility is to control the "A" gaps, the two openings between the center and guards, and not get pushed back into his linebackers. If a running play comes through one of those gaps, he must make the tackle or control what is called the "jump-through"—the guard or center who is trying to get out to the linebackers. The ideal nose tackle has to be much bigger than 4–3 DTs, weighing around 330 pounds or more.

"The nose tackle and the inside linebackers, those are three guys that are very important. But when you go through it, the nose tackle is probably the single-most important guy."

You can think about it all you want but it isn't Kelly's decision.

ND won't oversign unless Jenkins says so. Don't hold your breath.

As long as the amount of signees doesn't go over the amount of spots we have with zero 5th year guys, then why would admissions or Jenkins care?

Golson did not take the easy way out when he chose ND over UNC - in fact the exact opposite if that's what you mean.

If you meant he took the easy way out by cheating - they yeah, he did. But don't you think he paid for it more dearly than he would have at any other school? How many other schools would have enforced such a penalty, thus reinforcing the fact that the easy way out does not get you ahead in life - in fact just the opposite?
