Or you make a huge, blockbuster big $$ hire of an existing A-List coach. Those are your two options...
A) Take scraps or make an in-house promotion.
B) Whip your dick out and steal a coach like Patterson, Whittingham, Fitzgerald, Fedora, etc.

Lax, I'm gonna go ahead and put you on the spot. Who is the head ball coach next year on September 3rd??

Sanford is a must keep for at least one more year to develop Zaire and Wimbush. Then Kelly is allowed to go to the NFL if he wanted. Not that I want him to, but then give Sanford the gig.

Sanford is the MVP of this year's staff. I want that guy around at all costs.

Can we merge the coaching threads?

MR would be a great get for Miami. Good guy for a school who really needs a class act.

Wonder if the Missouri protests have made this a pretty unappealing job?

Not to mention you're in the SEC and stuck recruiting the scraps of the Big 12 with little to no help from in state talent.

Couldn't he do better anyways? Maybe once PSU figures out that James Franklin is a terrible coach, they'll pick up the phone and call an old alum already coaching instate.

With Sanford.. I think he is going to be a great HC.. ND will not hire another HC without HC experience.. Long term what is best for ND IMO is for Sanford to go to Virgnia for 3-4 years, turn it around, then when Kelly leaves.. Welcome him back...

don't disagree but do worry if he goes out to another P5 team, and finds out just how much EASIER things can be without the academic restrictions and rigors, that we may never get him back. (see Meyer, Urban.)

He was already at Boise State. I don't know if he needs to figure out that academics are easier other places...

Good for Kirby. Hopefully he does well at his alma mater.

Chatter around the ATL is that it was a done deal last week (before the MR announcement). Not sure if it's obvious speculation or poorly kept secret.

Cochran going with Kirby wherever he eventually landed was expected. Muschamp is still being mentioned at S.Carolina but I don't know how serious that is. Also, that would leave Pruitt available for a possible return to Bama. Guy is a first class dic* but he can coach defense and can recruit well. Should get interesting.
