Utah:

ND beats Stanford by 1, Utah wins out destroying UCLA and beats a demoralized Stanford by 40 in the PAC Champ game. They would have 6 P5 wins including Michigan and against ND's best win Stanford. Do you really feel so good about leaving that in their hands?

Oklahoma:

I've long said that Oklahoma was ND's best friend in the Big 12 because of the head to head with Texas but if they run the show with big Top 10 wins on the road in their last 3 games in impressive fashion, do you really feel that the committee COULDN'T say OU had a better SOS and did it on the road and put them above ND if it was for the 4th spot? This is the same committee that has Iowas at #5 right now.

The only thing stupid at this time is the secure feeling Irish fans feel right now.

.

So now you're making ridiculous scenarios to prove your point? Well, what if Notre Dame beats Stanford by 100 points, and Utah beats Stanford by one point after Stanford foolishly punts the ball with 10 seconds left, only the punter drops the snap, tries to kick it but gets hit in the back and coughs the ball up, and it goes to a Utah player who catches it and runs it all the way back, breaking his hip as he hits the ground in the endzone?

Then ND would get in over Utah.

And yes, I think your above scenario is the only stupid thing on this thread. I don't feel secure, but I feel that if we win out, we have a great shot. I would have not thought that winning out was remotely possible after all the key injuries, so I'm LOVING this position we are in. I'll let you and a few others fret needlessly over everything else they have no control of...

We really could not ask for a better situation. Ranked #4 , with two easy games ending with a game against a Top 10 team. Very good chance the Stanford game will be the first playoff game with the winner in.

There are clearly scenarios where we could miss out at 11-1 , we are not a lock, but I couldn't feel more positive about the way things stand.

You guys are all worried about making the top 4, and I'm here like "please don't go above 4 because clemson will not get jumped by Bama and Bama is staying 2/3 and I want no part of them in round 1".

Did we actually win anything? No.

I love the reaction, but honestly, that is just silly to be that excited when you know that you are going to get jumped in the next two weeks anyway with their WEAK schedule before Stanford.

Yes, because that is exactly what the team was thinking.

Yes, because that is exactly what the team was thinking.

I was not saying that they were thinking that, but this is not remotely the same thing as Selection Saturday, when you KNOW you are in, period.

My point is that we need to be realistic about the fact that this week is not indicative of anything.

So, as I said, I loved the reaction, mainly because I love the fact that these kids are so emotional. It is something that I think has been missing from ND and CFB in particular, for far too long.

Loving the negative Irish fans. A team that you claim to support was literally just named #4 in the country. How about we just sit back and enjoy it? The season is short enough without looking for reasons to be unhappy.
When did this board become so infected with the NDN mentality?

Not sure I agree with this. Our SOS was far superior to the #5 & #6 teams. SOS is taken into consideration, but it's not the only criteria.

I would bet my mortgage that a an undefeated Big 12 team passes ND and I don't think committee doesn't blink an eye...

I don't see any scenario where ND beats Stanford and gets hopped by a 1 loss team.. Root hard for Oklahoma this week, then Baylor or Oklahoma to beat Ok St and I think We then control our destiny... Let's pound Wake Forest this week by 40 and get rolling

So you DON'T want college kids to be excited? It's 'silly' to be that excited?

Do you realize how much these kids put in to become who they are, both individually and collectively? It is crazy how much time they devote to the game we follow...just crazy. Oh, and then they have to study for an accounting mid-term.

I think it's way more silly for fans to tell the players not to get excited when their dreams are sooooo close they can taste it. It's not a done deal yet, and the players know that, but I'm all for them showing emotion. Shows how much it means to them.

I'm actually shocked at how many Irish fans want to Debbie Downer this moment. I'm loving every second of this playoff run. Beats the hell out of 8-5...

We don't need to be debating the worthiness of celebration from the players. We aren't in their shoes. Let the guys be happy. Great things are in the making

I hope the player celebration gives them some serious motivation for the remaining games. That clip was cool.

One of the issues I keep coming back to is Bama at #2. It seems to be a foregone conclusion that they'll be there at the end-I'm not so sure. I can see them dropping another game (and I know ND needs to bring the heat against Stanford too).

These next few weeks-I'm looking for ND's D to pick it up. A shut out would be nice but certainly they need to start cleaning up their mistakes.

Very excited the Irish are in this spot.

That negative comment about the team going full joy was as off base a comment as this thread has seen, and there have been plenty of them. Reminds me of the wisdom of Mountain William:

"He who finds fault in everything, finds himself."

It's a game. Let them celebrate whenever they want. They can't celebrate or be loose in BVGs ridiculous defense so let them go ham in the locker room I say.

I think this committee really likes ND based on the fabled "Eye Test," and that's something to keep in mind moving forward.

I'm worried that if Baylor runs off three straight top-20 wins, they'll jump ND (or sub in Oklahoma State, same deal) because those wins against highly-ranked teams will be more fresh in the minds of the committee members.

HOWEVER. I'm starting to feel like the committee just *looks* at ND and is impressed. The eye test can't be measured, and in all honesty I think it's a load of bullsh*t... but I wouldn't complain one bit if 11-1 ND gets the nod over 12-0 BigXIIChamp because they "just look the part."

Hyprocritical? Yes.

Would I piss and moan if an SEC team was getting love simply on the "Eye Test" in the same way? Yes.

Would I love for ND to get that benefit? You bet your ass.

Besides, with the way the committee is treating Ohio State and how Baylor is at #6 without having played anyone, the "Eye Test" is a real factor.

The only thing that will worry me is if Baylor wins their next 3, and wins more than one of them in impressive fashion.

I live in an area of the country where there are Missouri, Oklahoma, Okl St., Kansas, K. State, and Arkansas fans (and one delusional Michigan fan). I can tell you there is a lot of butt hurt in the Big 12! Good for ND players - they have played hard and through adversity.

We win out - were in. Go Irish!

I think Baylor gets beat. OKie State seems the real threat to me right now...but I can see that group of OKie, Okie State and Baylor ruining each other's day.

Nothing would please me more than a rematch with Dabo's boys.

You really think the committee is just going to say "oh well you played Wake this week so F**K you, you're going to number 8?" You don't think the committee knew full well our schedule to end the year when they put us #4? I don't give a damn that the Big 12 teams will finally be playing some tough games, because they're just playing catch up with us in that regard. Our whole schedule to that point will be taken into account next Tuesday. Alabama has a home game against Charleston Southern in 2 weeks, do you think the committee will drop them from the top 4 the Tuesday after?

I am curious to see if UNC beats Clemson, how much of an affect it will have on us

Could you imagine the media shit storm if Clemson loses and slips out of the top four and ND stays in it??

BC 93 ended my childhood... and my parents' laundry hamper that I absolutely destroyed after the game...

Ironically, the BC game was the only one I missed all year. I had a trip to Indianapolis that day for a school thing. When my mom and I got back into town we kept asking people the ND score. It wasn't until the 4th or 5th person told us BC had won that we were convinced.

To this day I have never watched that game. But the aftermath sure hurt.

Actually, your point is exactly why Baylor is #6 this week and not in the top four. The committee has stated that they don't look in to the future to dictate rankings for this week. Baylor's next three games are against ranked opponents with something like a 25-2 record I believe. If they win out and are 12-0 then they will be in the top four. Now, for the record, I don't think they win all three of those games.
