1). OSU can pass the ball, but nowhere near as well as we can;
2). OSU played a crummier schedule than we did;
3). If we load the box excessively vs Elliot, they are plenty dangerous enough passing to move the ball and score, especially given our safeties and no Russell;
4). we will not load the box excessively because with Day, Rochell, Tillery, Cage, Okwara, JJones, Trumbetti, Martini, JSmith, we will not need to {I didn't mention Joe since that derails threads, but he'll fill one gap too}.
5). Elliot will gain some yards but not nearly enough.
6). Barret will pass for a few yards but not nearly enough.
7). the hyper-explosive Kelly offense will be a THING that these guys haven't seen all year.

We good. We better. We win.

Im with you on everything Mike but I think Barrett's legs will be what hurts us. I still think we win.

We played three of the top four teams in college football in three different time zones - and four teams in the top seventeen. Two of those games were on the road and two were at neutral sites. We did not lose at home.

Taking nothing away from Alabama, they played three of those seventeen (6, 10, 17). Two of those games were at home and one at a neutral site.

We'll play anyone, anywhere, anytime to beat the best. Home and home, Alabama. We have openings in November.

This is a good post. And to think, there were people who were still saying ND had a weak schedule going into the bowl season.

I wonder when the last time (if ever) a team played 3 of the top 4 teams in one season?

One thing you missed is ND played 4 of the top 18 while Bama played 4 of the 16.

MSU wasn't far behind, they played 4 of the Top 19.

Can't wait for next year's schedule. Great historical teams but all down from recent highs, with a bunch of them having new QB's after losing multi year starters or in some cases both.

I would have liked ND more had Fuller stayed but I think next year is a better year with 2 loses being the max including bowl.

Michigan 2012. I remember, because they lost to all of them, and I thought it was funny. Because I like it when Michigan loses.

That came across my mind but I guessed tOSU was on probation that year. Seemed like a safe bet as of late and who could possibly keep the Buck's indiscretions in a correct timeline anyways?

They were, they finished #2 at 12-0 in the final AP Poll. It was #1 Bama, #2 OSU, #4 ND.

I remember at the time being really pissed off that we couldn't play tOSU instead of Bama. Yes, tOSU was ranked lower than Bama to end the regular season, but, had the pollsters not been influenced by the fact that they were on probation, they definitely would've slotted tOSU vs ND in the title game.

And they were bad that year. Oregon was really good, Bama was even better. But we were THIS CLOSE to getting to play Kansas State who we would've been a sizable favorite over.

I would have taken tOSU, Oregon, or K State over Bama that year, even before the awful game. In fact, it was probably mentioned in a thread at that time. I think we would have handled tOSU much better that year in a probably low scoring game. People fear Oregon, but I think it was Mariotta's first year and our defense would have been smash mouth enough to put Oregon in their place as is often the case with Oregon. K State would have been no contest. They were decent, but it would have been the easiest team to face among the 3 for sure.

Still stand by the idea that preparation leading up to that game was such an unmitigated disaster that the opponent wouldn't have mattered, and still don't see how the team that was on the field January 7th, 2013 would have beaten anybody with a pulse.

Something was different this time around against OSU. All signs pointed towards another ridiculous blowout, but the team sucked it up and hung around until late. Losing by 16 points is never a good thing, but throwing punches until getting knocked out in the last round was encouraging.

Holtz's 88 National Championship also faced #1 Miami, #2 Southern Cal, and #3 West Virginia. And beat them all.......
