I dunno. If Baylor or Okie St run the table and Clemson loses along the way, it may get a little scray. The Irish need Stanford to win up until the Irish game as well.

Considering Clemson's remaining schedule if they were to lose they drop below ND. IT would be considered a really bad loss.

Chicken little you back again?

To be fair to you, I'm just kidding as you've been positive in your posts.

Bub, I'm here to tell you, if we win out we're in.

We won't lose our perch.

Only by losing do we lose our perch.

And unfortunately Wake and Fredo have given us fits before.

Stanford will be unreal.

I don't think Ohio State will get out of the Big House with a W.

First of all you must have me confused with someone else as I'm always positive when it comes to ND football. Yes if we win out we will be in most likely. My point was even if Clemson were to lose they would not be ahead of us because of their win over us. They would actually drop below us.

I can't see that happening. I think if Clemson loses they'll be ahead of ND.

The only thing about this week's ranking that is pretty surprising is Iowa jumping up to 5th. Their schedule is pretty mediocre and beating Indiana isn't exactly the kind of victory that should propel them from 9th to 5th, but whatever. The winner of the big 10 is very likely to get a playoff team, and Iowa is unlikely to win the big 10.

Not surprised at all that Oklahoma St. is ranked 8th. I think the national media, message board posters, etc. get too caught up in what happens week to week. Oklahoma St.'s entire body of work is not impressive. At all. They have one good win over an overrated TCU team and their non-conference is a complete and utter joke. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were left out even with an undefeated record. The committee is sending a message to the big 12: get a conference championship game and schedule someone worth a damn non-conference.

Half right. We can't draw ANY conclusions about how the committee feels about a conference championship game until after those games. If the Big 12 is screwed and we're not, it's strength of schedule that matters, not a 13th game.

Yeah. Still have a hard time buying Iowa. I think Ohio State wins out. Them, Bama and Clemson and we're left scrapping with the Big 12 champ.

Fair point, but a conference championship game would give them a chance to get one more huge win on a big stage late in the year. A championship game between TCU/Baylor last season may have produced a playoff team (we'll never truly know). I do believe though that SOS matters more than a potential 13th game, however. The only big 12 contender with a halfway decent non-conference victory is Oklahoma.

ND is lucky that Stanford is playing so well and we have the potential to get a victory over a top 10 team, on the road, late in the season. Let's hope they keep it up.

Michigan fans think they are in the playoff with a win over OSU and then Iowa. 2 losses, can't see it.

I still can't believe this is a possibly and that ND is even #4 this late in the year. Thought for sure the season was screwed when Malik went down.

I worry about being idle on Championship week.

I wouldn't. The SEC won't change much. I can't see Florida beating whoever comes out of the west. Either Bama wins out and is already ahead or Bama loses and is out of it.

The big 10 is more than likely an elimination game. OSU is already ahead of ND, if Iowa wins they replace OSU.

The PAC 12 the only way they matter if Stanford wins out and if that's the case ND is out anyways.

Interesting data on SOS, SOR (Strength of Record), and DOD (Degree of Difficulty - record against schedule): BCF Toys - 2015 Degree of Difficulty

- ND's remaining SOS is #16 (must be all Stanford; Baylor #2, OKLA #4)
- SOS to date is #2
- Overall DOD rank is #2
- Overall SOS is #1

Wins vs Navy (#20), Temple (#22), USC (just outside Top25 in other polls and may finish inside CFP Top25). Must beat Stanford (#7) or doesn't matter. Only loss to #1 Clemson.

An undefeated Big12 - let's say Baylor - will have 3 wins against OKLA (at least 2 losses including Texas), OkSt, and TCU (at least 2 losses including blown out by OkSt) that will all then be ranked lower than now in polls. So, 4 Top25 wins for ND vs Baylor's 3. if Clemson wins out, stays #1, I don't think it's a stretch to feel ND has the better resume.

I'm sure you've been read the riot act already below but this is simply incorrect.

The following teams would all get the 4th spot above the Irish if they won out.

tOSU
MSU
Iowa
Bama
LSU
Florida
Clemson
Baylor
OSU

..and the possibles:

Utah
Oklahoma

and...
UNC quite possibly though I doubt it.

How could Oklahoma and Utah get in over ND when ND beat the team that beat them. That's just dumb I'm sorry.

Hey if Iowa can move up that much after playing Indiana, we shouldn't have any fear of slipping over the next two weeks. As long as we are in the top 4 going into Stanford, I think it's almost guaranteed final 4 if we win that game.

Not only am I not totally convinced that you are right, it's also impossible for more than 4 of those teams to run the table, so it's only a matter of one of those four stumbling anyways.

No chance L S U is in ahead of is if we both win out unless lsu somehow ends up in the conference champ game.

Possibly a stupid question, but what is the difference?

I'm pretty sure you know what SOS, whereas strength of record is how your win loss record is ranked in relation to what an average top 25 team's record would be against the same schedule.
