So there is no way... literally now way... I mean, positively no way in hell... that this kid doesn't redshirt.

Right?... RIGHT?!?!

Yeah but I don't think he is as much of project as most people believe. I believe he can be in the 2 deep by year 3, which is pretty normal for a kid of his skill level.

You also stated that he will need to add about 60 pounds to his frame. Isn't he being recruited as a WDE? If so, he probably only needs to add 20-30 considering Trumbetti is only 255. According to 247, Ade is at 225 right now and its realistic to think that he can be around 240 by next summer.

Kid could be 6'7" by the time he is on the roster, yikes

I wonder what he would be rated at if he was in the 2017 class. He's a decent 3 star coming out this year, but he's young enough that he probably could have had another year ahead of him. Just thinking that if you changed the graduation date, he might be solid 4 star prospect. Since he's almost certainly redshirting, that's kind of what you're getting.

Res, I could agree that another year wouldn't hurt, however, a year sooner in a college strength and conditioning program will do just as much good, if not more. Just my take.

Definitely agree. I think he will benefit a whole lot more from a college program next year, and I think his ceiling is incredibly high given the right time and training. My thought was more of, "if he were a 2017 recruit, would he be a highly touted 4-star we would all be more excited about?" since his physical development is more in line with that group at his age.

If you asked me to describe the ideal "project" DE for ND, it's hard to improve upon a 6'5'', 220 lb 16yo Nigerian (assumed) Catholic with lots of room to grow.

^This. Hope we see him a few years down the road terrorizing QBs off the edge.

Welcome Ade!

Bring back Tom Hammond for his crack pronounciation skills.

If you asked me to describe the ideal "project" DE for ND, it's hard to improve upon a 6'5'', 220 lb 16yo Nigerian (assumed) Catholic with lots of room to grow.

Is he more raw that Jhonney Williams?

  • He plays against better competition
  • He plays with better technique already
  • I doubt he has some of the baggage Jhonney apparently had
  • He is truly 6'5" and growing at 16 from everything I have heard (Jhonney's 6'6" turned into 6'3.5" inches when he reported to practice
  • Though Jhonney had good straight line speed, Ogundeji looks quicker off the line, is stronger in the video (knocking several linemen on their asses with a straight shiver) and has a lot more batted balls, (actually few recruits in high school seem to have as many blocks on tape) so he knows when to get his hands up
  • And remember, we have one more year of tape to evaluate, (ie., his Junior to JW's senior)

I think that every Nigerian that I have met, (and the area here has many) seems to have an incredible attitude and work ethic. If that is true, this time ND looks like it got a box with shiny wrapping paper, that others just didn't see. My feeling is that this time there is something inside with the kind of substance that will really fit into the program.

I just hope we can keep the wrapping on the package for another 24 months!

Do any of you think this will help with the recruiting of the California kid?

I am really okay with getting less polished linemen with higher upsides, having Gilmore in the staff. And finally, will Gilmore make a matching bookend with Hiestand?

(Harry came in under a cloud of controversy, so to speak and didn't he seem to have to wind up to get a good start, too?)

Comhghairdeas, Adetokunbo, ciceáil roinnt asal!

(Félicitations, botter des culs!)

Pretty thorough free evaluation:

SKILL SET EXPLANATIONS
Most of the categories are self-explanatory (speed, size/frame) while others are not as obvious. The reason is while there is carryover in terms of category titles what each means is specific to the position being discussed. For example, athleticism is self-explanatory from a broad level, but for each position the traits will be different. For a running back, it will cover things like foot quickness, suddenness, hips, balance, etc. For a defensive end, it will include things like initial burst, lateral quickness, body control, etc. The specifics will be discussed under the various headers in the heart of the film evaluation itself.

ND Insider said he had 17 pass deflections last year to go along with 9 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries. 17 is a ton of swats.

"He is first there at practice every day," Meyer said. "He is loud, he's a leader that puts a smile on your face. And then once the game starts, that all goes away - and it's gametime. He plays defensive end and constantly faces double teams locally, sometimes triple teams, and so even though he may not make the actual tackle on a play, he's spilling it or sending it back inside, which is why our defense is so successful

"He's 6-5, right now 220 pounds," Meyer said. "I've heard from seven major Division 1 programs all give an estimate that he could fill up to be 285, 290 pounds by his senior year. He's only 16, so in theory, he could very easily be a junior this year, with a size 18 shoe. People might say 'why is he so young?' but in the culture his parents have raised him in, education is everything. You do not wait as some people will do to put your kid in school, and be the older kid in class. That's another reason why they chose Notre Dame, because of the emphasis on the great education there.

"I know Notre Dame fans are probably looking for those four and five star rating kids. He's not on that circuit, because he starts on the basketball team, and because he qualified for shotput and discus in the state of Michigan. So he's a multi-sport athlete, there's no time to see these camps that some of the kids do. So it really picked up steam at that Sound Mind Sound Body [camp], for example the Big Ten teams that saw him there offered. I think Notre Dame fans are going to be very happy with what they're getting, and I think he has the potential to be an NFL player down the road, no question."
