You ruined my appetite in four seconds. It's like looking at Roseanne Barr in a g-string.

Thanks for the image. I think I'll head into the desert now to fast for forty days and forty nights.

I guess it's decided.

I voted other because they are both pizza and I like them both. I have no allegiance to either.

I used to really like Dewey's. My wife really likes Donato's, like craves it when we go back to Ohio, but I've never been a fan.

Cincy is not a great a pizza town for me. BBQ and chili are great though. Skyline Chili is one of my faves. (Boo Gold Star.)

Sadly, the best pizza place that I frequented shut down. There's a new place on the Kentucky side of the river, just ten mins from Cincy, that I'm excited to try, so I'll let you know when the verdict is in.

In terms of the big chains, Larosas is king.

Skip the pizza and go get ribs at Eli's BBQ. Best ribs I've had in a while.

I also endorse this post. Don't mess with Montgomery Inn. Go to Eli's.

I hate Chicago style but I give it more respect that NY pizza. At least it's a unique brand. "NY style" pizza is nothing more than good pizza. There is nothing noteworthy about it, except the fact that the best NY joints do it extremely well.

The reason I think NEPA is better is because you have your unique brands (Old Forge-style or Victory Pig style) but you can also go to one of the many Mom and Pop joints that will serve a NY slice just as good as anything you can get in the city.

To bring the convo to the right thread.

I'm not arguing that PA doesn't have good pizza, they do. But it's not on the same echelon of NY or Chicago. Just like i'm sure PA pie would be, it's not fair to judge their quality outside of eating them in their respective location. Getting a soggy slice of Chicago style in some low budget joint in Cali wouldn't be a fair way to judge, for instance.

I will add that Dewey's isn't bad, and that there are a few Uno's locations around that aren't bad, but I've never actually had an authentic Chicago style pizza to compare it to.

Final note: rumors are going around that Giordano's is planning at least two locations in Cincinnati. So if you're a Chicago-style lover in the Cincinnati area, you may be in luck. I'm just excited to try it. I've been to Chicago twice and still haven't had a good, authentic pizza.

WTF? Next you will tell me that you also didn't get an Italian Beef sandwich either.

I LIED ABOUT THE PIZZA THOUGH!

I was under the influence, but I remember that we got a pizza from some super-small hole-in-the-wall place in what was probably a questionable neighborhood.

I'll have to explore google maps and dig up my info on where I stayed so I can piece the information together. I remember the pizza being almost all cheese and hardly any sauce, and it was a fantastic drunk meal. It was after ND-Miami at Soldier Field, so the joy of beating the Hurricanes made it better as well.

I'm a Giordano's hater. Giordano's famous deep-dish pizza is stuffed pizza, not pan pizza. That's cheating, imo.

Next time you are in CHI, this is your plan of action:
(1) get Pequod's pan pizza. Hole in the wall place kind of on the border of Lincoln Park and Bucktown (or original in Morton Grove). It's the best. If you aren't near Pequod's and can't get there,
(2) find a Lou Malnati's. There are tons of locations and it's the best true Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, at least among the places that are really easy to access.

I like all good pizza. Sadly, people down here are incapable of that. The one exception I have found is a place called pieous

My go-to in Chicago. Love this place. They always have a really good microbrew selection as well.

I think they just opened a place or two here in Indy.

There's a place on the southside of Indy (Emerson & County Line) called Brozinni's. Best pizza I've had in ages. I'd put it up against any other pizza.

Two good choices. My only complaint with Malnati's is their pizza tastes like hell when they deliver or carry out. The crust is always soggy. It's legit at the restaurant.

Palermos has a great pizza (it's hand tossed, not deep dish). Well worth a trip to the south side if you're interested.

I've been hearing about that place for years. Don't know when I'll get a chance to get down that way but it's definitely on my list.

It shocks me that all Chicago is known for outside of Chicago is "Chicago Style" / Deep Dish pizza. The only time Chicagoans grab a deep dish is when their relatives from South Carolina are in town. The Chicago style pizza that locals eat everyday is a thin crust (pronounced tin), cooked to almost crispy, topped in what most call a supreme and cut into squares. Some call it Tavern Style around the country. The act of buying a pizza is called Scoring a Pie or Scoring a Wheel with some.

Lou's has great thin crust, so does Aurelio's, Papa Pasero's, Home Run Inn and a thousand other local joints.

Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno and Due are quality places but are tourist traps. They specialize in DD's and I have no problem eating a peice or two when I'm there with guests but I'd never think to order a DD over a pizza on a normal day.

Giordano's can be just as good as Lou's if it's owned by the right people. I know some that are sold to people who don't know the 1st thing about building a pie. It's like going to Panda Express for authentic Chinese.

Can't believe a Chicago guy didn't pipe up earlier.

^^^^ This. I used to get a lot of pies out of there. My account, Pete Georges Chevy was right across the street on 95th & Cicero. Excellent pie.

The first time I had Home Run Inn pizza was at an ND game back in '08. It was the Syracuse game. It was cold, miserable, and the team was playing like garbage. I hadn't eaten anything since 6am when we left for South Bend.

That Home Run Inn pizza was perhaps the most delicious thing I have ever tasted in my life, simply based on how hungry and cold I was before eating it.

My local Kroger just started carrying Home Run Inn's frozen pizzas, so now that's my usual choice for pizzas from the store.

Why? This has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

But it's not wrong. Lou's thin crust is the best thing in Chicago that nobody talks about. My favorite place for "Tavern Style" pizza is Barnaby's in the north suburbs, although of course you can get pizza like that a million places.

I said that based on reading the first page back in '13. It goes on about Chicago Style and Deep Dish and not one person, up until I realized I was reading an old thread and skipped ahead, brought up that Deep Dish is for tourists and for people relocating to Chicagoland.

Can't beat a Barnabys pizza.
