This is the staff's opinion of Hunter, per Sampson. Wow
To piggy back on this, recently on ISD power hour Brian Reegan compared him to Andrew Luck. High praise but everybody seems to love this kid.

Obviously, he forgot that Harry Hiestand has already added a verbal from offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons for the 2017 class. But still, if we can start the 2017 class off with Hunter Johnson, Brock Wright, and Dillan Gibbons, you won't hear this fan complaining.

That would be absolutely insane! I like Hunter's game in a big way. He looked comfortable in the clips for II.

Don't know if he's quite the athlete or has quite as big of an arm (granted I've only seen video of him as a high school sophomore) but he does throw a hell of a pretty ball and drops them on the money with anticipation.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think he's a Luck type of QB. Those prospects come around once a generation or so. But if Hunter came even close to Luck's college career, we'd all be very happy.

Johnson, Sanford strengthen bond

Hunter Johnson had already visited Notre Dame multiple times before the Irish Invasion. But Friday night let him work with Mike Sanford for the first time.

Hunter Johnson had already seen enough of Notre Dame to know what to expect before taking the field Friday night during the Irish Invasion. But the experience in South Bend still included a first for the in-state junior quarterback.

Johnson had never taken on-field instruction from offensive coordinator Mike Sanford before.

“I really enjoyed working with coach Sanford in the stadium last night,” Johnson said. “This was the first time camping at Notre Dame since Irish Invasion last year. I’ve obviously visited a bunch since then, but this was the first time I was coached by coach Sanford. He’s a great coach. Some of the quarterbacks at Notre Dame now were at camp and had nothing but good things to say about him.”

Following the two-hour event, Johnson and his parents engaged in conversation with Sanford on the field before receiving a late-night tour of campus.

“We drove around campus with coach Sanford in the golf cart and went down to the grotto, which at night was very cool,” Johnson said.

Notre Dame’s top 2017 target at tight end, Brock Wright of Cypress, Texas, was also on hand for the Invasion. The top juniors spent time getting to know each other on and off the field.

“He’s a talented player,” Johnson said. “I connected with him on a couple of throws and then I got the chance to talk with him and his parents after camp as well.”

Friday’s visit also featured a one-on-one meeting between Johnson’s father and Brian Kelly.

Johnson also plans to visit Penn State, Missouri, Oklahoma, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Tennessee this summer.

A final decision is possible before the start of Johnson’s junior year.

You have to like where he's visiting if you're an Irish fan. It very easily could have read Florida St, Georgia, Oregon, Texas A&M, Alabama, USC and UCLA.

If depth chart is one thing he's keeping an eye on, Stanford isn't a better option than ND. I'm also not sure he has a connection with any other coach like he does Stanford.

Initially I read that as Sanford and got extremely confused.

Just as long as Hunter isn't confused. Otherwise we might have an admission problem!

With the verbal commitment of Brock Wright we're 2/3 of the way there. Hunter Johnson, come on down.

Did he commit? What's up with Elston's tweet about area code 219 and 317? Maybe it just means he's hoping for his commitment...?

Not from IN but I believe 219 would be Avon, IN.

That 219 message is cryptic. There is only one player in The Region that I can imagine ND would be after and he's YOUNG.

Very interesting.

317 is the area code for Indy and the surrounding area...including Brownsburg.

I don't understand how he lives in Avon but goes to Brownsburg. Shouldn't he go to Avon? They are traditionally the better football program.
