So our entire defense could return minus Riggs but we would add KVR and Ishaq. Plus Morgan and others will get more PT. They could be nasty. Offense similarly could return most starters.

Excellent! Hopefully Ishaq can persevere and get his degree. Is there a DL guru similar to Whitfield that he could train with in the off-season? Would love to see him finally pull it all together and realize that 5:s: potential we were so excited about in 2012.

Getting away from Longo for a year should do the trick.

The down side, as I see it, is that now Ishaq counts as a scholly for an additional year, so the potential size of the 2015 class gets impacted.

It is probably worth it in the long run, but for the first time in years it seems like ND could potentially land more kids than it has spots available. Oh well...

I never worry about scholarships as we haven't filled the class since I have been following recruiting.

I see your point but its no different than having Davaris/Eilar back for potential 5th years and Ill take Ishaq over any potential incoming freshman at that spot.

Could the choice have been finish the semester and be done at ND or leave now and have a shot at redemption?

Just asking, what would the logic be behind that??

Working with students at various schools, my best guess is it's his decision to take some time.

It is a waste of time. Let the young studs play. Trumbetti is already having the impact that he never had. Hill has more career sacks in a few snaps.. Bonner and J. Williams looked really good on practices. Blankenship and Hayes look good as well. And i am not talking about Rochell, Jones, Day, Cage, Mokwuah, the incoming Fr.. Irish DL is stacked.

Maybe so, but if he comes back and the only thing that he accomplishes is earning his degree, well then I would consider it a success.

I hope that Williams finishes his degree. As to football...?eh. As just stated, we are loaded in the DLine and at the DE position. Williams has not yet shown me anything like Rochell, Okwara, Hill, or Trumbetti have. The other guys mentioned above seem to have great potential and deserve reps. I have seen no lack of "motor" in them like Ishaq continually showed.

Perhaps he returns. Perhaps he gets a motor. Perhaps VanGorder gets him perfectly situated. I'll wait but not with any worried stewing about it.

Mike you have to be kidding me. What has Kolin Hill shown? No way do I play a situational pass rusher who is a sophomore over a complete 5 th year senior DE.

Good for him coming back. Hoping he makes huge strides to be a playmaker but I won't hold my breath. If he can't be a dominant force, let the youth movement continue. I am mostly happy to see him working his way back into a degree.

if at worst, he gets his degree, provides some senior guidance/leadership, and provides quality depth. it will be worth it 10 fold.

Anyone who isn't running from his mistakes is someone i would want on my team.

Calling Ishaq a complete DE is more than a stretch. I do welcome him back though.

YES. In my 4th cycle on IE, I realize that worrying about available spots is kind of a rookie mistake.

I find it comical that any veteran ND fan would be turning down depth at any position. Did you not see the Pitt game last year?

I think bringing back Ishaq is almost the best case scenario thats realistic right now. Obviously best case would be flip Mehki Brown or get Porter Gustin but those don't seem likely. Bring back Ishaq for added depth next year. Let the young guys battle with him for reps as they build to every down players. Then recruit the heck out of the loaded 2016 DE class from the midwest. Love this plan.

To be fair, IW was playing Diaco bend but don't break ball versus agressive hair on fire go after the QB BVG defense

This. Plus the fact that BVG defense is kind of built to be played using multiple players coming in and out to be fresh as much of the time as possible

Yes and no. All coaches want fresh players but BVG isn't subbing in and out necessarily because he wants too more so than its out of necessity . Right now we don't have too many 3 down type of players on the Dline. Players that can play the run and create pass rush on 3rd down. So he's having to use multiple groupings in order to do that. Thats not ideal and he doesn't want to do that. Ex. the UNC game. Because UNC wasn't subbing and playing fast, we weren't able to sub and therefore get some of our players/groupings out there in ideal situations like he's been able to do most of the year. They converted 9-17 3rd downs partly due to this. No other opposing team has over 50% conversion rate against us this year and some games aren't even close.
