Out of curiosity, how was everyone's confidence level with Golson on that final drive against Stanford?

I found myself surprisingly very confident that he would lead us down the field. Which is odd cause he's never had to do a 2-minute drill before. Really my only concern was a fumble by a WR or pass going through a WRs hands and getting picked.

I pretty much guaranteed a touchdown.

I gotta say that I was pretty confident as well. They moved the ball pretty well against Stanford all game, they just couldn't capitalize when they had the chance.

But I was pretty calm during the last drive of the game

I was pretty iffy... I kept worrying any time a Stanford player was near Golson that he would fumble... On the 4th down play, I pretty much thought it was over, I was in shock when ND scored.

had no doubt until 4th down...the play seemed to take too long to develop...couldn't see koyack open until the ball was thrown so i thought it was just a prayer being thrown into the endzone....damn did i get excited---it's an awesome feeling...it is such a high for me watching the games

Mayock actually called that one. As Golson was buying time, he said something like "oh it's a bust!"

Pretty much the same for me. I was super confident the whole drive right up till the snap on that 4th down play, and then my heart was in my throat on that play when it seemed like Golson was about to scramble, because I thought the odds of getting 11 yards on a scramble were not great. Then he let the pass go, and I saw that he had a receiver open in the end zone, but I wasn't sure if he was going to make the catch in bounds or if that safety coming over was going to break it up, so I was still freaking out.

After the play, I was dumbfounded. I didn't even celebrate at first. Couldn't even believe it. Just so relieved. Stanford is a great team, but if we lost that game I would have felt that we beat ourselves with mistakes like turnovers and blown field goals.

Reading the game day thread on the Stanford site...they were sooo pissed that Stanford only rushed three on that play. The weird thing was two guys actually called it...they said "just you watch, ND will find some way to pull this out of their ass". And man, were they pissing and moaning about the officiating. They thought we were holding on about every play.

Stanford fans are seriously the worst bunch of whiners in football.

They get it from their coach. What a dipshit.

As for the confidence in Golson on that last drive:

I had all the confidence in the world when I saw we had two minutes left. But on 4th-and-11, I had accepted defeat which made the touchdown even sweeter. I literally said as the pocket collapsed, "Well, we gave it a good-HOLY SHIT KOYACK!"

Sounds like me during every Michigan game over the last 5-6 years.

I was confident we had the 4 and 11 once I saw Golson begin to torque his body in a way on his scramble that said "Holy shit. There's an open man and I must hit him RIGHT NOW."

Before the snap, I thought no way. It had just been one of those days/weekends.

When Koyack hit the ground and the Ref threw his hands into the air praising Jesus, I bounced from the comfort of my dual reclining leather sofa and violently shook in a fashion that my wife compared to the way Elaine from Seinfeld dances! I screamed Go Irish and ruined my ND boxers on both sides! Although my Wife immediately questioned our nuptials...

We are ND!

I ran upstairs from the basement yelling Touchdown. My son thought I was insane.

My wife has questioned out nuptials and my sanity every Saturday in the fall for 30 years.

I used reverse psychology and told my brother it is over man and we suck! Oddly I thought we actually had a chance which is unusual given the last decade of failures. Great moment!

Did you hear Koyack in the interview after the game. He said something like "I knew Everett would eventually find me and the oline would hold up. I was like now would be a good time Everett...or now...or now..."

I thought that was pretty great line as well. Making a little humor from the biggest play of his career was quite funny. And not to read too much into it but it does kind of speak to the confidence that this team has when Everett is QB that he will find them or he'll make the plays that need to be made to win.

Not sure if it was an interview with Kelly or some sort of film breakdown article, but I read somewhere that Koyack was Golson's 4th read on the play.

A lot of people were saying how Golson nearly missed him and was late throwing it to him. 4th and 11 with the pocket collapsing...pretty understandable to be a little late seeing your 4th option get open.
