For the record, a few months ago I was called a troll for saying its possible Golson plays so well he enters the draft after this year :).

Man I hear ya! I woke up this morning like, did we just shut out and beat the shit out of Michigan? This kid has it and it is good! Hunter will be back soon, Amir is starting to shine, Fuller is a star in the making, Corey is the big target for the red zone as the season progresses, and what if our number 1 comes back? As this thing goes we will get better. Wait until Golson starts dumping it off to Bryant! Effing A boys, let's do this!

This Irish Kool-aid is fantastic by the way.

Tell you the truth, I really don't care about the Heisman anymore. In my lifetime, it used to mostly go to the highest rusher every year. As the game changed, it was generally the best QB out there. Now, it seems to go to the flashiest QB in the pass happiest offense. The caveats for all this being that occasionally you will get an outlier of a freak athlete at some other position and usually the person has to come from a highly ranked competitive team.

So basically, it EG gets it or comes close, good for him and more press for the University and the better for recruiting and I will be happy. However, I don't think it means anything like it used to before even I was born.

Well we have the most Heismans and I'd like to keep it that way so the more the merrier.

It's not a college football performance thing with Golson leaving early. It's a size thing.

He has as big of an arm as anyone in CFB IMO, has shown excellent accuracy any pocket presence. And he's taller than Brees, Wilson, and Manziel I'd bet. I'm not saying he's the #1 pick, but if he keeps it up he's very draftable IMO. Size is less of an issue with QBs being 7 yards behind every snap with the new NFL.

I love the press Golson is getting as its great press for ND and our QB situations. I think its setting up for grabbing a really good QB here soon (Henry). However, there isn't even 1% of me that thinks, there is a GM out there that would draft Golson over Mariota or Winston at this point. By the end of the season? Maybe. But not today and not even close. With that said Golson is showing insane progress from 2012 and I would bet that progress continues. I've been on the Golson bandwagon ever since I watched his highlight tape and it being one of the most impressive I've ever seen from a HS QB

Title is right. You can be a planet-eater in college and still not project well to the NFL. See: Michael Sam, Tim Tebow, JaMarcus Russell, etc.

He could lead this team to a 14-0 season and win the championship, I'd still bet a lot of money that he stays.

Golson wont graduate by the end of this year, correct?

I don't think so because he missed a whole academic semester. It may have actually been more. I hope he stays, but if he leaves this season will have been incredible!

Then there is Drew Brees, Russel Wilson, Wes Welker, Bob Sanders, Desean Jackson, Darren Sproles, etc, etc, etc. There are a myriad of undersized players that have had lots of success in the NFL. That being said, I don't believe Golson's projected future in the NFL is even the debate here. It's whether he would be considered draftable by an NFL team. To use your example, all of the players you just listed were drafted, two of which in the first round. Despite their lack of success, they were still drafted.

That was my point. If he was just looking to get into the NFL or have the best chance at a championship, i'm not sure that the easiest path would have been returning to Notre Dame. I think he has his eye on the total package that Notre Dame offered.

Dare I say... RKG...

From what I've read he has a pretty good support system around him and one that he seems to listen to.

Golson's size is a negative but it was also a negative for Brees and Wilson, etc.

He has great arm strength, good accuracy and escapability while keeping his eyes down field.

We are only two games into the season, let's see what he does against better defenses. Let's see how he handles adversity after his first INT or fumble or the second of each.

So far, he appears to be reading defenses really well. Unless he lights the world on fire with his performance, I'm almost positive he's back in '15 to improve his stock and show it wasn't a fluke.

The only reason I'm not claiming 100% guarantee that he's back is because there is the tiniest of chances that he doesn't have an off game but I wouldn't count on it.

I think someone said he will need next summer to finish. Not sure but I remember that. Something like he was behind, and then he missed a semester, so instead of graduating the December of his senior year, like most players do, he would probably need next spring full time and maybe summer too.

I remember it because someone asked it in terms if that would make it hard for him being accepted into grad school in time to be offered a fifth year by ND.

Honestly he is a RKG. He messed up, worked his way back, and is shining at the greatest institution in the country for football and academics. With all the craziness that has happened since Alabama, this is the kind of season and story we need. Very proud of EG for what he is doing right now!

I think if he does light the world on fire he'll have a chance to make an NFL roster, but I don't see any concealable way he even sniffs the first round. Russel Wilson had a higher QBR than Andrew Luck his senior year, and didn't get drafted until the 3rd.

There were 4 QB's taken in the first round that draft with Luck and RG3, two of this biggest names to come out in years. Next year's draft is nowhere near that loaded. Not trying to say he would be a first rounder, but comparing Wilson's draft to next years is like comparing apples to buttholes.

I agree they are not as strong, but there are still some strong prospects. Mariota, Hundley, Winston & Petty are not slouches. If guys like Jake Locker and Ponder go in round one, anything is possible.

What do you think he would do if he got a top 10 grade from the NFL?

If Golson gets a top-10 grade, we'll all be so drunk off the season we just had that I'd be happy to see him drafted and I'd root for him even if he became a Patriot or Raider. A top-10 grade means he has just begun in terms of what will be produced. I'd expect 4 pass TDs, 2 rush Tds on average plus he'll keep his interception below 1/game and he'll absolutely destroy defenses with his precision. He needs to be throwing in the 70% accuracy range and not take more than 6 sacks to show quick decision making.

His deep balls need to be released sooner so they hit the receiver in stride and he can't miss the intermediate throws.

That is to say: It ain't going to happen this year but I withhold judgement on next year.

Idk if you guys saw on Bleacher Report (I know, I know), but he was listed as #5 by Matt Miller when asked to name the top 5 QB prospects for the '15 class.
