My apologies everyone. I didn't mean to imply that football and spirituality/religion are equal or that one is more important than the other or anything between the two.

If you sign up for an internet forum, it seems like an a priori that it's because you were interested enough about the material contained within the forum to discuss it and care about it more than the average person who doesn't sign up or merely lurks.

This is disregarding any and all troll motives.

Give that your interest is presumed, by the very nature of you being here, it's surprising that any poster would comment about not being interested enough to watch the games.

That's why I likened it to someone who cared enough to discuss the deeper ideas of their chosen religion, yet chose not to go to Mass/Church/Temple.

I could've just as easily used a hunter who talks about hunting and guns and four wheelers and stands and camo and scent-disguisers but then says, "I'll probably stay out of the woods this year, just not that excited about it".

Although I will say, the analogy of Notre Dame football to Catholic religion seemed more apropos. Perhaps some posters prefer we never realize the inherent connection between the two? Or am I reading into all of these posts too much?

I don't really get this post at all. For the record VDP is typically a thoughtful poster IMO. Are you saying that a large portion of the ND fan base believe the football discussions are on par with Catholic doctrine/dogma and should be pondered to the same extent as one's personal salvation and eternal being?

...and i didn't and still really don't get your post.

You really can't see how someone with a Latin username, on a Catholic university's football fan site who very well may be an alum could possibly bring up something religious when making an analogy. He11, he's even in SAINT LOUIS. Everything about this guy has correlations to Catholicism and religion.

And yes... VDP is a good poster... hence the italics, bro.

Kickoff in 02 Days, 01 Hours, 57 Minutes, 34 Seconds.

Seemed like a good place to throw that in.

I detected tongues-in-cheeks with both VDP and Crusader Rabbit.

I'm no longer at all sure about The Crusader.

I watch every game, when possible, with hope and optimism in my heart.

Both are dashed on occasion, but I'm a hopeless romantic-hippie-world-peace-old-fart-grumpy-neighbor-Irish-fan.

I spent twelve years in Catholic schools and another four at Notre Dame. I know the difference that separates doctrine, acceptance of such, and the value of and the connection to the fortunes and vagaries of ND football.

One does not necessarily include or preclude the other. I've been a dedicated fan of The Irish football far longer than I've been a devout Catholic.

Rant over. Fade to black.

So you're a self hating type of jerk?

I like that.... the old, call him a name in a question so you aren't actually calling him a name ploy. Well played wooly.

I fixed my post so as not to stir your emotions.

You're relatively new here so just know that Wooly can be somewhat abrasive. It's just not going to change.

If you respond to him civilly, he'll chill. Always does. Then we can avoid thread derailments, fights, and (ultimately) time outs.

Rock on dude.

Noted. I don't think I could be anymore civil. Got over internet muscles back in the 90's.

She is beautiful, hope he doesn't try to get her to write papers for him in exchange for sex.

That song was created for ND football.

I hope we hang 50 on them. We are going to need an offensive explosion to carry us through the first half of the schedule.

Look at this and tell me u anit ready for sat..http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v79N-HXZcks

Good stuff.

This reminds me of something though...does that little chant the females do at the end of Go Irish cheer annoy anyone else? Seems like they started doing it about 8 years ago, and it just sounds stupid to me. It's right at the beginning of the video there, can't miss it. So annoying...not intimidating or inspiring.

Another reason why 1972 was a dark year in ND history.

It's like fingers on a chalkboard to me...nobody else feels that way? The whole Go Irish cheer is cool imo, up until the end when the girls do their thing there...ugh.
