Anyone else in this boat?

I think it's mostly the stupid academic investigation and the specter of this idiot administration vacating wins. It's also a large part having so many question marks and completely unproven commodities that could be anywhere from great to awful.

I think I won't be excited until we're either demolishing Rice and Golson has 4 first half TDs to go along with 2 sacks from Jaylon, or we're past Michigan 2-0. But my switch has not flipped yet... I even found myself accidentally making plans for this Saturday and completely not appreciating there'd be a game on.

I feel ya, the suspensions/investigation burn a bit.

I'm still excited. Golson is back, defense has a new identity with BVG, potential break out years at RB for two young backs, young studs playing all over the field. Could be a fun year.

If you started drinking at 8am in the Stadium Lot, you'd be excited for every season just like me.

It's fucking Notre Dame football. Pull your tampon out, Lax, and get excited! This roller coaster only happens a few Saturdays a year. Embrace it and booze your face off.

I think I'd have the exact same feeling as you except that I'm going to the game. I only make it out to one game per year (plus the bowl depending on geography), so I have that excitement of getting back to campus, even if I'm a bit underwhelmed by the feeling heading into the season.

Agreed. It's tough to get pumped for this when it seems like something terrible always happens at awful times.

Yeah, I think I'll feel better once Michigan is over and done with. The timing of the investigation was certainly impeccable...I guess it's good that they caught it BEFORE the season started as oppose to definitely vacating 2014 wins later. It definitely feels like they've bungled their handling of the situation though, and it's put an ominous cloud over the program to start the season. I'm still excited and ready to go though.

Wow.

No, I'm not in that boat at all. I'm as pumped as I've ever been.

I think we get a couple of the kids back and we're ready to pummel the snot out of Michigan. I can't wait to see ND on the new turf, I can't wait to see Golstonson again, I can't wait to see what GB looks like... I can't wait.

Pretty pumped.

I am totally with you LAX... the current state of college football, the break of the NCAA/super conference thing and the playoff all are seen as negatives to me also...

Never been this blah not just about Notre Dame but about college footbal in general. Maybe it's a good thing, healthier passions.

I'm excited and can't wait for Saturday. Can't wait to see this offense and what BVG brings to the table.

Yea I'm there. I fizzled with what seemed to be a lull in recruiting late in the summer, followed by the investigation. My excitement will be there at kickoff, but probably not a minute before (which I'm saddened to say).

I don't care about no investigation. I don't care about no suspensions.

Football back.

I enjoy watching ND too much to not be excited. I start waiting for this sh*t as soon as the national championship ends. I don't care who's dressing, who's starting at what position; it's ND football, and it means I will unleash the passion of 1,000 suns every gameday.

Samesies. I accidentally made plans for next week!

I told my wife that I was going fishing and she... she!.... asked, "you do know that's Michigan week, right?".

I've never been more ashamed. Plus, my buddy I planned the trip with was quite upset when I canceled. He's an MSU fan... he wouldn't understand.

Yeah, the playoff is a bit worrying, only because it's obviously a temporary format. There's only a matter of time before there's going to be controversy in regards to the 4 teams picked. If you've got 5 conference champions that all have 1 loss or less, there will be drama...not to mention the possibility of a 1 loss ND or other non-Big 5 affiliated program.

I am stoked for this Saturday! The wife and I have designed my daughters game day shirts, planned our game day meal, put in my requests for Saturdays off, planning the Stanford tailgate, working to find a way to "disappear" at my brother in law wedding for Michigan game, etc. All the usual things I do before every season have found their way back into my life. In those moments I can barely contain my excitement!

A lot of things are going on off the field and we have a lot of question marks. Finally, for the next 16 weeks, everything feels right in the world again! Everything will play itself out but this season, with the team we are fielding, will be a huge part in what we see next season as well! I. CAN'T. WAIT!!!

EDIT: My daughter has a 20-5 record since being born so I have a good feeling she will pull us through this season just as she has in the last 2. Born after Navy in 2012.

Right now? Not that excited. But I know one thing for certain, I'm going to wake up Saturday morning, play the fight song in my room, watch a BK speech and a Protect this House video, and shotgun a beer.

Then I'll be good.

The awful timing of the suspensions, plus the tough schedule, in addition to any of the other off-field stories from this summer has just sapped all of my enthusiasm. Include the fact that I won't be able to be at/watch the first game this, and I'm just kinda bummed about it. I expect (myself and everybody else's spirits) to rebound soon.

+1. I'm already foaming at the mouth for some ND football.

I'm actually more excited for the return of college football in general than I am for ND football specifically. I'll be glued to the TV for Abilene Christian at Georgia State tonight. That's unusual for me, because I'm much more of a fan of my teams than sports in general (i.e. I don't watch many NFL games that aren't the Patriots).

Pffft, the team has gone undefeated since my son was born (June of this year)

Honestly I seriously think this is one of the biggest reasons I'm not excited. I've actually started to associate ND football with boring football. Hopefully our new schemes change this.

I'm with you Lax. I can't explain it but this season just feels different. Really having a tough time getting fired up for Saturday. Hell, without even thinking I made plans next Saturday to go to Bacon Bash near Detroit.

What's the weather report? Looking like a big storm will be hitting the area.
