Yeah, it looks good. My *exasperated sigh* GIF was due to rtrn2glory's inability to comprehend "how anyone can say this was a bad decision." Some of us are anti-turf and others are pro-turf, but I think we're beyond the point where we can't "understand how the other side could POSSIBLY think that way." As much as I disagree, I DO understand the reasons why people prefer it. Likewise, I think most of those people understand why some of us wish they kept grass, even if they disagree.

Tradition over advancement in regards to something with a practical purpose is stupid. Can we agree to understand that?

You and your pro-grass opinion are not wanted on this thread any longer.

cant wait for Rice game and when the greyhairs on eastern side of the stadium complain that our ND logo is upside down...

You laugh, but I sit on that side and I've heard someone complain that the band forms the monogram upside down before!

I am one ope the pro-grassers, but think it looks great. I understand the reasons for going with turf and don't have a problem with it at all. I just prefer football on grass and mud. Besides, if God wanted football to be played on turf, he would have created it first! lol

Did people complain about the '97 stadium expansion? Like, not for ticket prices but for aesthetic or tradition reasons?

If a topic isn't complained about on the Internet, would anyone remember it?

No. The north end would have their back to it. My seats are in southwest end zone. Can't see it but can see TD Jesus.

I can tell you that you can't really see shit outside of the stadium from the bottom 1/3 or so of the seats. Back in the day you could usually see the library and TD Jesus peeking in, although I don't know if you could see it at field level. '96 seems like a long time ago.

Did they always have the "We Are ND" sign below the student section?

Love it now.

My viewpoint - Kelly and Swarbrick are only concerned about what will maximize chances for success in football. If they thought grass was the answer - it would be grass.

This will help recruiting. The current players love it. Recruits will love it.

In a perfect world I would like to see grass. In the imperfect world we live in I am happy to see field turf because it will improve the football team's chances for success.

Congratulations to Father Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick and Brain Kelly and everyone at Notre Dame. Tasteful. Beautiful. As good as fake grass gets.

So is that actually two different colors of green to make those stripes or is the lay of the turf making those stripes?

I believe they lay the turf in alternating directions to give it the "alternating rows while cutting grass" look.

You could see TD Jesus from the south endzone. It was pretty freaking sweat to think of a player scoring there and turning to his team to celebrate with Jesus signaling TD. I remember seeing that at one point although I can't remember for the life of me when I would have been down on the field to see that my first few years on campus.

The expansion had plenty of detractors. I, for one, though they should horseshoe it to keep the few of TDJ. Lots of people thought it would mean an end to sell outs, not enough demand for crappy games and risk of emptiness if we have a crappy season (we tested the hell out of that theory didn't we?).

Yeah, especially the way those tracks show up like when you vacuum a carpet.

Yeah, but we play football on this carpet! If Notre Dame played football in my living room, I'd think my living room carpet would look sexy too! /noitalics

That's pretty neat, but they could have had it completed in half the time if they wouldn't have kept moving the dirt from one side to the other. lol
