No one disputes that he's 1st round talent. He slipped to the 2nd round because: (1) he put on a lot of bad weight; (2) took a bunch of plays off in 2013; and (3) decided to come out early anyway. All three of those factors were easily within his power to change, so yeah, I think Tuitt clearly made a mistake in declaring when he did.

Not being able to participate at the combine due to injury didn't help his cause either. I can't recall, did he enter the draft knowing he couldn't perform at the combine?

He didn't know he had foot injury until the pre combine medical tests where they told him he could not participate.

I have a friend (NY Giants fan) who told me he's very surprised by how well spoken Justin Tuck is. He then wondered aloud why Hakeem Nicks is not as eloquent. He didn't believe me when I said that UNC is less than demanding of their cash cows, uh I mean student-athletes. (Football-wise anyways)

So....Stephon is a father?

That makes the jump to NFL make a whole lot more sense if so.

Good for Stephon, hopefully he has a long, decorated career. He gave us what he could and then had to move on and take care of his son. I have no ill will towards him.

Right on brother.

On a side note...I was checking out his Facebook page...he's back in 2012 shape. Looking svelt and ready to tear the heads off of some QB's.

A future Irish commit?

He does look like a big boy. Long. Diaco would be all over him.

You know, based on the timing, this little guy was probably conceived shortly before or right around the start of the season. Got to wonder if news of impending fatherhood affected Stephon this fall, along with the hernia and all.
Either way, he's on to big things. Will be rooting for him.

Do we know how much for?

Steelers sign DL Stephon Tuitt to 4-year contract - Behind the Steel Curtain

Terms of the deal were not released by the team but Over The Cap estimates it to be a total value of $4.6 million with a $1.672 million signing bonus.

Ok and this is a bit hypothetical but Dee Ford was picked 23rd overall by the Chiefs:
the 23rd overall pick signed a four-year deal with a team-option for a fifth year. The fully guaranteed $8.16 million contract includes a $4.25 million signing bonus.

Chiefs sign first-round pick Dee Ford - CBSSports.com

You could argue Tuitt lost a few quid by coming out as a Junior but dem diapers are sure expensive..

Not looking forward to watching 2012 Tuitt against the Bengals twice a year. Especially when Shazier is going to be running around like a madman as well, I'm sure.

I actually really liked the Steelers draft in general, which pains me to say.

I wouldn't say it's even arguable. Just a clearly bad decision on his part. A record # of kids declared too early last cycle. Makes you wonder who's advising them.

Having a baby is expensive and a lot of work.

I don't blame him one but for coming out early and providing for his family.

$1.672 million signing bonus is life changing.

I've got four kids age 5 and under. Well aware of the cost involved.

Unless Tuitt's little family is facing some uniquely challenging circumstances, I still don't see the case against playing one more year at ND to double his money.

Potentially life changing, depending on how he spends it and what level of success he has in the NFL.

He could have a really cool lifestyle for a few years or a very comfortable lifestyle for 40+ years. Here's hoping he doesn't follow the path of many NFL players before him.

I have seven children, but never had more than two under five. One word; endurance!

Seriously, I do have four grandkids under three. I may sleep at a Holliday Inn Express . . . tonight.

Tuitt simply has to take 100k of that money to finish his degree at ND. If he does that, he will have both a sizable signing bonus AND the 40 life changing education. If the doesn't, then it doesn't really matter if he got his degree or not, he doesn't get the value of a ND degree.

I expect, whether in the summers or after his NFL career, he will finish his degree requirements. The kid seems like he gets it. And it's important to his mama.

Its a good point but I think the best argument made would be that being fat all last year lost him that money. If he plays at 300lbs all last year he's definitely going in the first round.

Now this is something I can agree with 100%. If you have 90 credits you have the same thing as anyone else without a degree. I hope he gets back and finishes up. Too close to not have that paper.

I know a couple DIEHARD Steelers fans who are absolutely over the moon about what they're hearing. They were excited with the pick, now they're really pumped.

It really seems like a perfect match for Stephon. Even though I'm a Raider fan, I've always had a soft spot for Pittsburgh, it will be easy to root for him.
