I agree with a few others here that it's better to take recruiting before NSD with a grain of salt. After a few years of taking it personal, these days....whatever. I don't miss any of the defects, or think of "what could have been". Wake me in september.

I don't follow this recruiting as much as some of you, but there is plenty of time to see who develops this year or focus on other targets that have been back burnered due to Blame being committed.

I have to believe the staff told him to beat it in the past day for him not to be even considering us anymore. The future is bright, we have talent at the position, and I trust that we will continue to reload with QBs that will fit in our system and thrive behind our line and weapons.
Don't let it get you down lads, no one can predict what the future holds for these kids or how they pan out in the future.

It really doesn't make any logical sense, does it? You'd think at least his parents and coach would advise him to keep his options open. Obviously there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes, but you almost have to think there was some sort of issue that arose between Barnett and the coaching staff. Or, I suppose, his "dream school" Oregon talked him up then gave him an ultimatum and he's effectively a silent there.

Side note: I joined this site not just to follow recruiting but to learn more about the kids who will represent a university I love and get an opportunity to do something I airways dreamed about.

Blake de-committing is not as concerning to me as that Hopkins guy trolling us and being so much involved in this kid's recruitment. This is very wrong in so many levels. Somebody said we should boycott 247sports, and this is the right thing to do. I never wish anybody ill, but this is just asking for it. Seriously guys, anybody with a subscription there should cancel.

Some poster over on 247 USC who apparently knows some of Barnetts family and spoke to some of them said Blake really loves Scott Frost and the offense Oregon runs. Expect him to commit at their camp in a few weeks.

And the ones we've lost haven't been quiet. Vanderdoes, Sheppard, Greenberry, Barnett, etc. have all been very damaging to the football program as a brand. We end up looking like fools most of the time, and looking like fools isn't a good way to seem cool to high schoolers.

Recruiting is not easy, but you get the guys who are meant to be here no matter where they are from. You keep trying as hard as you can. You get them great, if not, whatever.

I'm with Aube here. You don't give up recruiting the biggest, most talent-rich state in the country (and one that's probably friendlier territory for us than most of the other most talent-rich areas like the Deep South and South Fla.) just because you got punked by Eddie Vanderdoes and Blake Barnett. (The Fresno kids are a completely different matter. That was more about the wrong school than the state as a whole.)
From Redfield to Niklas to Cierre Wood to Jimmy Clausen, we've pulled plenty of good players out of California, too.

Stopping recruiting one area because you've had some bad luck is ridiculous to me. You probably are more informed than me in the matter, but I don't think ND only put all their efforts in one particular state. Isn't all the states divided proportionally among all the staff? I mean, you look at where all ND's players are from and it's very diverse. I'm sure Kerry Cooks probably gets a rejected a lot in Texas before he gets some genuine interest and I don't hear anyone saying to stop recruiting Texas. ND recruiting is about finding the right guys all over the country, because it takes a special kind of young man to make it(for real) on the field and in the classroom.

IMO, it's not. Two studs, roughly 10% of the starters, is more than enough to justify some flights to CA. We play there each year, so we have a presence anyway.
