Question, if Gunner had stayed, anyone think he would have beaten out Tommy as the starter this season?

I don't know about the first game, but I think he would've gotten a shot later unless he's a total bust.

Yeah, I can't seen any way how he could've been behind Hendrix on the depth chart.

Kiel's quest for playing time certainly hasn't panned out like he planned. Could have been the guy at ND this year, and now he's in a competition at UC.

He'd be in a competition anywhere, regardless.

Kiel has in the inside track on the starting job at UC. No other QB on Cincy's roster has his combo of arm strength, accuracy, and mobility. Too add to that, he spent an entire year learning the offence in preparation for spring 2014. His plan is playing out as planned.

Considering the QB is the focal point of any offense, it means a lot more.

It really doesn't. You aren't allowed to hit QBs in spring games. Don't you think that makes it a lot easier on them?

No way a guy that performs that poorly in a spring game beats Notre Dame...

Well, surely when he's running with the ball then yes, but if he's in the pocket, Im sure Cincy would have something along the lines of a tap-out sack, thus ending the play.

It's not like they would have given him all day to throw even though he could have been tackled or sacked but wasn't due to it being no-contact on the QB.

The fear/threat of getting hit/sacked is a huge factor in the ability of a QB to throw accurately. One reason Jameis Winston was so good last year is because he could deliver a strike even though a knock down was imminent. If a QB knows he won't get sacked it makes it a lot easier to hang in the pocket and make an accurate throw.

Agree to disagree on this I suppose.

Gunner Kiel has 300-yard spring game at Cincinnati
Cincinnati wrapped up their spring practice schedule Saturday by putting on their spring game in Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals. Quarterback Gunner Kiel led the first team offense...

Not one of the UC Secondary has a chest.

Those players have to be itching to get on that field after watching the games on TV the past two weeks. They're gunna get run down towards the end of the season though. Yikes.

They had to cancel a game to schedule a home and home with someone I think. It was something along those lines. Drop one for something better.

Is It Really A Big Deal That UC Has 2 Bye Weeks To Start The Season? - Cincy on the Prowl - A Cincinnati Bearcats Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

The #1 complaint is the fact that Babcock kicked UC’s opening weekend opponent, FCS Stony Brook, to the curb in order to add an away game at Miami (FL) on October 11th. That left a void on the front end of Cincinnati’s schedule that was never filled (thanks for nothing, AAC). But in exchange for traveling to South Florida this season, the Bearcats will get to host the Hurricanes at newly renovated Nippert Stadium next year.
