If he's a legit 6-2.5 220 that runs a 4.6 or faster stick him at LB. Right now he's as big/slow as a safety should be. He's similar in size/athleticism to Zeke Motta was as a senior.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are those times from 2 different attempts or 2 different timers on the same run? I'm guessing those are hand-timed as well, right?

2 different attempts. Any combine will have you run it more than once.

those were hand timed as i saw nothing indicating they were laser timed....whenever they are lasered they always make that known....so in reality he is more likely a 4.6/4.65 lasered

Safety this year, next year let him gain another 10-15 lbs of good weight and move him to WLB in a 4-3.

I actually think he's way faster and fluid than Motta. Motta ran like 4.8 40. Harrison Smith ran something like a 4.55. I don't think he's quite as athletic as Harrison... who was a 1st round draft pick as a FS... but he's not far off. I think he's more than fast enough to play SS, but you're right... he could also be a great fit as a weakside linebacker in a 4-3.

Yea, I think its safe to assume he's a sub 4.7 guy which is good.

He began his career at linebacker. In his first year, he started 9 games and recorded 57 tackles, which included 8.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. As a junior in 2009, he started 6 games at strong safety, before moving to strongside linebacker for the final 6 games. He recorded 69 tackles including 6.5 tackles for loss.

AWP founder Michael Ledo has talked with both Dan Murphy and Steve Wiltfong at 24/7, and has told them both similar things about Drue: Told Dan that he is more explosive than Jaylon Smith in his first few steps and told Steve (repeatedly apparently) that he is actually faster than Jaylon.

TIFWW, but that is what Dan and Steve attest to being told of the guys he has produced from the horse's mouth.

Also worth noting, is that Drue, like Jaylon before him and all other AWP LBs, are trained as if they were defensive backs to help create and improve their coverage skills.

Redshirted as a safety freshamn hear, sophomore year I think he played as a linebacker exclusively, then he played SAM and safety as a junior, and then Kelly came to town and was like "wtf is this linebacker shit?" and committed to developing him as a safety... 2010 and 2011 as a safety and dominated.

Per Ledo, Jaylon may be faster in the open field but Drue is more explosive over his first 10 steps, and that explosiveness over a short distance may be why ILB is his best fit.

I see a lot of talk on other boards. Fans saying "Why would anyone want to go play for that purple faced monster?" Our recruits obviously get it. Yeah, Kelly has an angry side, but that's a small part of the coaching. I never had a problem with Kelly's ire on the sidelines. Some coaches are just that way, for me it just shows they care enough to react. Thats not to say a coach can't be a zen master and care, I just think...it's football, it's alright to be angry :laugh:

I'm sure plenty of other coaches would turn purpleish too if they saw drives end with Red Zone TOs like he did.

lets not kid anyone here... EVERY coach gets mad, people just make a bigger deal about it when Kelly does it.
