I'd guess TP was tweeting about Marcus Griffin. In fact, that's the only athlete that crossed my mind until you guys mentioned the others.

I also seriously doubt that Mackenzie's tweets were about BK. He's been in contact with our coaching staff a long time to decide on an in-home that he doesn't like them. Also it's BK and Alford. Their likable rating is off the charts.

This is exactly what I was hoping. Given the sequence of events, maybe McKenzie got fed some BS yesterday and Kelly cleared it up.

I'm hoping you're right, but it could be just the opposite. You just never know what is said in those living rooms.

Per Tunnel Vision, ND likes its chances to get McKenzie. His high school coaches want him to end up in South Bend because they believe he would excel there on and off the field. ND will still need to recruit him hard.

Would be a really great pick up. Really hope this one works out for the Irish.

If anyone deserves a prayer thread, it's McKenzie!

Can someone catch me up?

Last I knew we were the clear favorites but he wasn't going to clear admissions. Now he WILL clear admissions but other schools are running neck and neck?

Yeah. He really showed out at the UA game and started attracting national interest. He liked the attention and decided he wasn't ready to end his recruitment when he could take some fun OVs. The BGI guys still think ND leads but admit that UF is looming large and McKenzie could go either way, or even to Ole Miss if he's blown away on his visit.

I'll take my best shot at this.

- He's expected to be 'accepted' because of his scores and how hard he's worked, but he'll have to maintain a solid GPA next semester to stay in good standing with ND. But the staff has seen enough progress from IM, that they don't think it's a risk not worth taking.

- In the meantime, he's also blown up and Oregon, Florida, and Ole Miss are all over him, but FL and Ole Miss are our only competitions.

- Recently took a visit to FL and liked it a lot and also liked Muschamp. Still taking visits to Ole Miss (now) and ND next week.

- Worth noting, IM's GF who he seems enamored with, does go to a college in Tampa.

- Greyhammer90 will be giving me 50 milling in vbucks next week, and potentially another 50 mill once IM signs with ND.

- [Insert Prayer pics].

I believe it's false. Sorry, but this guy is Irish. There is simply no way he gets through admissions just to give ND the middle finger at the end of the race. He visits, he commits, end of story.

No way? Then why hasn't he committed already? Why take any visits at all if he is supposedly qualified? Why was he so in love with ND for so long, only to suddenly decommit and start talking about other schools as soon as he got some real offers? Sure, he loved ND when the options were Rutgers and WVU, but as soon as schools like FL and Ole Miss came calling, he wasn't so in love with ND anymore. I'm not arguing that he won't be Irish, but to say that there's 'no way' he'll not be Irish is being blind to the reality of the situation.

Gotta run, but there's more than meets the eye here. I'll post more about his recruitment later today when I get done playing Dad/Hubby.

Some posters do tend toward the blindly optimistic when it comes to recruiting.

On IM, I've got to think it helps that his high school coaches are in our corner, and that we have the last visit (assuming he makes that visit). But I totally get why he'd want to look around a little now that he can. I think he's smart to. Where he winds up, we shall see.

Not to be too simplistic, but if you really really like your high school sweetheart girl next door, and she's good looking and a sweet girl and she can cook, and you think you want to marry her, but then all of sudden, that hot girl you've always had a thing for gives you that look and she's got that little something extra you've always wondered about, and you've kind of heard stories about her special attributes, and she seems interested all of sudden -- well, you might take a pause from the girl next door to see what the fuss is about and if your initial judgements (both ways) were correct. See what I mean?

The HS sweetheart narrative is nice and all, but isn't one of the main perks of college banging as many girls as possible and picking the one who withstands the wreckage at the end?

He was never 'committed' officially. He retracted his verbal commitment after it was apparent he wasn't going to be eligible. How could you turn on the school that put you in a position to succeed, helped him put his name out there, only to turn your back and go somewhere else. Had it not been for that ND offer, we probably wouldn't be talking about him. When ND offers, people pay attention.
