This. I think Briles lost the job the minute he blew it against UCF with a pathetic defensive display. Mora just didn't win it, and will stay put until he gets a crack at the NFL.

So it's either got to be Strong, Jimbo, or Saban... right? I'm guessing those are in order of likeliness to happen.

I think so. Strong most likely because it's a clear step up for him and he has completed his season and had time since then to negotiate with Texas.

If Jimbo went to Texas and Jameis actually sat out a year to play for him, it would be one of the oddest scenarios in college football.

I don't think it's him but Malazahn probably should be in the discussion too. Called Texas his dream job. Would not be suprised by him or any of the candidates Lax mentioned.

I'll put my money on Jimbo

Can you imagine. And if the Rule of 3 holds, he could be the first NCAA QB to win national championships for two different schools!

Wait no, Jameis has already redshirted, so he would only have two years of eligibility at UT, right? Damn. That would have been a sweet possibility.

The Penn State 247 mod thinks Golden is a very serious possibility.

Franklin will kill it in recruiting at PSU once they get off sanctions and is a much better hire than Al Golden. I think this will negatively affect ND's ability to get mid-atlantic players.

If Stoops goes pro... it'll be too bad that Mora didn't leave UCLA. Would've potentially dropped a number of prospects in our lap, including Quick.

if these kids still believe Mora's shit after all this then good for him but it should be obvious now ucla will get dropped in a heart beat with the right phone call.

I actually think Golden would be the better fit. Sure Franklin would be a killer recruiter but he would just be looking for the next big offer to jump on.

Mora and Briles say they are staying put.......does Texas have their coach?

I feel like neither Briles, and especially, Mora would "turn down" a Texas offer. So that leads me to believe that they know that they aren't being offered the gig.

So do they have a guy? I would imagine that they at least have some candidates better than both Briles and Mora that they feel good about. Good enough that they are willing to say whatever they said to both of these guys and get them to make these public statements.

I find it impossible to believe that either, let alone both, would turn down UT to stay at their respective schools.

Franklin is looking for another stepping stone for the NFL I wouldn't take him.

I don't find Briles that hard to believe from everything I've heard about him. Given Mora's well-known desire to get back in the NFL, Texas may have stuck to their guns on some huge NFL buyout policy to lock him in for longer than he was willing to commit. Just speculation on my part.

Golden has been offered the PSU job

Then it's most likely done imo... He's a PSU guy.... on a side note, if da U hires a good coach, watch out, they are stocking a lot of talent there.

I got pummelled for suggesting this move yesterday. Golden to PSU, followed by Franklin to Miami makes a lot of sense to me. I am going to find that thread.

The rule of thumb is that you don't transfer laterally UNLESS there is some big motivating factor. Dead-end, misery, money, or, here, because it is (possibly) your professional goal to coach at your alma mater.

On top of that, Miami is NOT a great job anymore because, despite the past, the school is no longer committed to winning at any cost. There is no doubt that the local talent is there in spades and that the school is in an incredible location (at least outside of the summer), but if you can't get those Miami-Dade kids in your school, you are left fighting for scraps with all the SEC and ACC schools after UF and FSU are done recruiting.

Miami's recent lack of success is a result of the school turning away from football, at least to the degree that it is on par with the rest of the ACC. In that situation, I think I hyper-motivated recruiter like Franklin who really wants to get out of Vanderbilt is just what the doctor ordered.
