I asked about the stand because it seemed lazy to me (not really understanding it), and then someone explained it to me, and then I explained why it "seemed" lazy to me before someone explained it. I still think it sounds boring. I'm not being confrontational at all, or at least I'm not trying to be. Maybe my reputation precedes me. I'm not anti-hunting. I just didn't get the whole tree house thing so I asked about it.

Dude, stop being thick headed about the name calling. Anytime you call someone "lazy" you are being antagonistic. What you said seems to me along the same lines as a concrete worker telling a pharmacist his job must be easy because he works in doors and doesn't do anything physical. You discounting everything that goes into the process beforehand and not respecting the fact that you have no idea how the process works. Stop and think for a second, would you call a hunter lazy to his face? Or has the interweb juice got you feeling like superman? Maybe you'd act the same in person, or maybe you'd phrase your statement less abraisivly, but either way calling a group of people lazy out of ignorance is dumb.

We spot and stalk mule deer, elk, bear etc in NM. The process is made infinitely easier because we generelly have high ground (mountains) from where we can glass the animals. It's a difficult process that's only possible because we can see the animal a long ways off and create a plan of action for the stalk.

We also generally hunt with firearms (including muzzleloaders). This combined with the topography of the west gives us a lot greater range when compared to a lot of these stand bow hunters. Homie you're crazy to EVER call a bow hunter lazy. Shoot a target with a bow a few times in perfect conditions with no pressure before you start calling names.

It is totally fair to point out that I do not know anything about hunting. (I also don't know anything about feminine hygiene. Sorry to disappoint, Nuke.) I would gladly go hunting if I knew anyone that hunts, but I think if I did I would want to be roaming the woods stalking some stuff to shoot, rather than sitting idly in a tree fort doing god-only-knows-what. That just seems boring to me. It also seemed lazy to me, not knowing much about it, but if you guys insist that it is actually much more complicated than that I'll have to take your word for it.

There are alot of types of hunting where you stalk your game while archery hunting. Stalking whitetail deer is incredibly hard, however mule deer, elk, bear, and moose can all be bow hunted this way with great success.

You guys wanna see lazy, come hunt in the south where dumb rednecks use dogs. I don't think it should be legal. They screw everything up for everybody else who actually HUNT.

I hunt in the Apalachacola forest and I cannot describe the disdain I have for dog hunters and their damn deer drives.

These hunters giving hunting a bad rap IMO. Its more of pure blood sport than hunting. I usually bow hunt exclusivly but the outfitter requested I use my rifle to up my chances of thinning out some of the hogs, which works out good because I need the meat.

I'm not a hunter, but I use to be when I was a kid. I'm not really for, or against it.

I've always wondered about this. How challenging is it to shoot something that I see on the side of the road? Here in California I see deer and turkeys almost daily, so when someone says "I'm gonna go hunting for them" I always think WTF are you blind? In Indiana we had to watch out for deer, they were everywhere trying to jump in front of your car. Same for Florida (pigs and deer) and especially Colorado, I've driven snow mobiles, cars and motorcycles within 50 feet of elk, deer and moose. Is it really hunting? Honest question.

I am not a hunter. But, if anyone wants to send me some deer jerky or sausage I would take it. I love that stuff.

Yet you never saw hunters shooting at them right along side the road. Also can't hunt at night with a spotlight, that would make it a lot easier too. Now if we let hunters ride in the back of pickups shooting as they go down the road maybe I could see your point.

Damn things have a tendency to go where the hunters aren't. Plus, the goal is to find a huge buck. They are much scarcer.

This, some inlaws made some deer chili about four years or so back and man... so good.

I'm hitting the woods next weekend to do a lil hog hunting. Stand by for piggy pics!

I can lend you my blueticks. They were bred for boar, bear and lion.

I don't deer hunt, but we have a patch of woods across the street from our house. I take a bunch of apples from our trees over and dump them for the deer. I could sit in my driveway and get one on a regular basis.

I usually just spot and stalk or sit in a stand with my bow or rifle. The guys down here usually Catahoula Leapord Hounds to run the pigs and Staffies to go in and hold em. One old boy out here uses a Presa Canario and that thing is a monster. I personally cant get into the running em with dogs.

I have a friend that has a male Presa. Powerful, monstrous beast.

Almost as beastly as my Dogo ;)

To call that lazy is simply not knowing what you are talking about...

Yes, exactly. I don't have any clue about hunting, which was my point. I was not pretending to be an expert. My whole thing was "I don't get this. It seems lazy to me. Can someone please explain it to me." And multiple people have, and so I thank them for that. I'm not looking to argue the point any further. I don't know that I'm going to build a tree house to hunt from next weekend, but at least now I have some understanding of why someone might do that.

LOL. to further help your understanding, most of us do not hunt out of tree houses... I use a climbing stand much like the one below. and yes it has a seat, it is just folded up while he shoots.

I'm not a fan of using dogs to hunt deer. It's illegal in Indiana. Florida is one of the few states that allows dogs for tracking deer. If you haven't tried raccoon hunting try it sometime. Hunting at night is a totally different experience. The woods come alive in an entirely different way. I haven't done it in a long time, but I had a friend whose dog wasn't completely trained and it came across a deer scent one night. The dog was three miles away before he finally got it back. lol

I was going to post a picture of a stand if someone hadn't. We don't hunt out of tree houses.

I don't have a lease to hunt on, so I rough it on public land. The place I have found down here in St Louis, I have to hike in 2 miles to get away from most others hunting. That means hiking in with a 20 lb stand, my bow/arrows, and clothing amongst other tools of the trade. Then, if I take a deer, I have to drag it those 2 miles out. Lazy is the last word I would ever call hunters. Late last season, I did a 9 hour sit with a high temp of 20 degrees. 20 degrees is a lot colder when you are sitting on snow and not creating any body heat by moving around.

Good luck to everyone who went out this morning (or if you are going out this evening). Sunday is a high of 61 so I definitely need to get in the woods on that day, but today through Friday is all 70s and 80s so I won't be out there at all until Sunday

Shoot straight

Well... it looks like I won't be hitting the woods for a while now. I was shooting in my backyard this morning when I hear a crack from the bottom limb. Yup. The limb on my bow broke 2 weeks into the season in Missouri and opening day in Illinois. **** me. Now to wait for new limbs to come in, then the shop to put them on, then I will have to tune the bow again. Hopefully I'll be ready to go for the rut.

See, this wouldn't make me lazy. It would make me a track star.

I would have to quit right then and there, because the deer would be able to smell what was in my pants.

I am not a hunter but I am going to an upstate lake in a few weeks and taking some little ones on their first catfish graveling trip.

Pure gold.

Seems like cheating and incredibly lazy to me. You already have the advantages of being the only one playing the game that knows he's play and of having a weapon. Why do you need to hide in a tree like a coward? If you can't chase/track the animal then you don't deserve to kill it.

LOL....some are men, others are vegans
