Wild pigs are not your average "Porky".... they are pretty dangerous animals.

I have always wanted to go boar hunting. I guess if the population growth continues as it has, I'll be able to hunt them here in northern TN before too much longer.

Yep, they breed like rabbits and have pretty much no natural preditors. A pig gets out of pen and with months it will go feral. In Florida they are seen as a nuisance and can be hunted yr round because they are non indigenous animals. Most of the hogs down here are called "Spanish Piney Rooters" and dont get to massive sizes but there are razorbacks and russian (pic above looks like a russian boar) down here too and those bastards are mean and can get real big.

While Daniel, our tracker/skinner, was taking of my pigs a 200+ lbs boar darted thru a clearing to the left of us about 50yds away!

What happens when a 300wsm smacks into a shoulder blade on entry...

Bump.

Anyone hitting the rut hard? I gave a doe a dirt nap a few weeks ago, but haven't been out much since thanks to work and the holidays.

I'm hoping the orange army here in MO didn't kill off too many for me. Going for that end of rut buck.

The rut was really active here in Ohio around the second week if November. I saw 4 buck in one day, missed one on the run most sickening feeling I've ever felt. But then it warmed up and I haven't seen anything since. Plan to go gun hunting this week! Good luck!

My buddy missed a doe last year and it still haunts him. He checks his range finder religiously now. I can't even imagine.

Dude, there was a monster taken out by you a month ago. Check this beast out. There have been some hosses taken from Ohio this year. Some quality herd management coming from the Buckeye state, that's for sure.

It was taken by someone who works for America's Best Bowstrings I believe. Somewhere in NEO.

My uncle and I were just talking about this buck yesterday at the dinner table! He is a freak! Wayne County is about 45 min south of me and Ohio is seriously one of the top whitetail states there are always some nice deer being taken out of here every year. I had a nice wide ten come 100 yards from me walking out of my tree stand the night I missed my buck. I was walking out saw a small 8 running to me grunting I started calling toward him and he finally turned around to go into the swamp, so I turn around trying to cut him off and low and behold a wide 10 is looking at me 100 yards alway. He turns around and just walks away. It's the second time that has happened to me in 3 years! Haha

But Missouri has some great deer too!

Oh man, that must have been an intense evening.

Missouri does quietly have some great bucks. We were hit hard by EDH recently and the cheap tag costs keep the heard down and young. The hunting has been hard this year because of those circumstances. However, most of the state has a 4 point on one side regulation which keeps a lot of the forks and 6's from being killed.

I really wish I were more into hunting when in high school (I'm originally from Strongsville, at the 80/71 intersection). There are some great hunting opportunities back home that I never took advantage of.

Enjoy the rest of your season man! Hope a buck makes a mistake for you!

Glad to see people out hunting despite the outcry of the douchey anti-hunters regarding the lady LEGALLY killing the lion in South Africa.

I had a 8pt on Thanksgiving about 200 yards out. Didnt come any closer than that. There is a monster we caught on cam twice now, but between 3 guys hunting the property, we havent seen him during the day. If any of you guys are in Ohio next fall, let me know. My family has about 160 acres and 300 acres we just sold that we can hunt on. We can have a IE shindig haha.

You mean you can't take a 200 yard shot with a crossbow!?

I'll definitely let you know next time I come through.

I realized that the property I'm hunting on isn't very active in the morning. I've seen one deer in the morning hunts and that was on Thanksgiving, all the other deer I have seen were in the evening.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna change it up a bit. I will get out there late morning and hunt all afternoon and evening.

That's a great plan, especially on the tail end of rut. I'm going to try and find a food source and sit between that and bedding areas in the afternoons and evenings now. Good luck!

As for the PETA assholes, I've heard a few stories this year of people hiking around the public land I hunt and when they see someone up in a tree, they will run around banging pots and pans................ :banghead2 They have gone out of their way to disrupt the hunt and have been known to steal seat cushions and stands left on the island. It's so frustrating. If I ever see it, I'm calling the MDC to report hunter harassment.

Amazing footage. I heard of a guy who shot a buck when they were fighting and didn't realize their racks were locked up. He called his CO and the CO told him to kill the other. It's amazing in this footage how calm the live buck was with the guys standing all around him. It's like he knew they were trying to help. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

That's a nice deer, wonder what it really weighed, cause in the article the 300 is "according to his estimate". 300 lbs is HUGE but not unheard of if that's the live weight (guts in). That rack has some ridiculous mass!

He was on the local news. It looked like they were interviewing him in a gun store. He was behind the counter so I assume he knows what he's talking about. He said he had been out there several times for hours and hadn't seen anything. That day he was late getting out in the field and didn't get in the tree until about 10:30. he said he wasn't in the stand more than 10 minutes when the buck showed up. Timing is everything.

Im not trying to be a synic but I know some dudes embelish, even if experianced and Im curious also if that was live weight or gutted. Thats a freaken awesome deer and probably would fall out of my tree if that thing walked up, let alone give me a shot. I shot my biggest buck (double split brow 10pt) at 10:45am in a similar situation, being in the stand around 20 minutes. Depending on the moon phase and weather I am convinced a great time to get the big ones is mid day.

They never did say whether the weight was live or field dressed. I would have to assume it was live.

True story.........For years Dale Hollow held the world record for small-mouth bass. Back in the summer of 1969, I went on vacation with a buddy and his family. One day his mom and another lady were in a little aluminum boat with a couple of the little kids. My friends mom sees this big fish right at the top of the water. she takes her oar and smacks the snot out of the fish and stuns it. Grabs the fish and throws it in the boat. They go back to the bait and tackle shop to return the boat and showed the guy her fish. I don't remember the weight, but it turns out it was the biggest small-mouth bass ever caught. Unfortunately, since she didn't catch it with a rod and reel, it couldn't be recognized as a record holder.
