well colts got him for around 20th pick so i think they did what they had to do.

browns dont lose either as they clearly weren't going any where this year but looked second to jags for worst team in nfl.

on a FF note, I have Bradshaw on my team now. I also have Brees and Rivers as my QBs. I was thinking of offering Rivers for Richardson straight up in a trade.

Thoughts?

If you get someone dumb enough to take that trade you are one hell of a salesman.

Just skimmed through the thread...a few thoughts:

1. Great trade for the Colts. It's really early, but there doesn't appear to be a RB of Richardson's caliber in next year's draft. I'm not a proponent of picking a RB in the first round, but Richardson at 22-27 seems like good value.

2. I'm surprised no one mentioned Richardson's 51 receptions and 367 yds receiving last year, and similar pace this year.

3. Poor Browns fans. You deserve better than this.

As a football fan I absolutely love this trade. You have 2 of the great young up and comers in the league teaming up in the same backfield. The Colts deserve this after losing Manning. Hope it works out well for them.

I really like the trade for the colts, but my only concern is that in my opinion the Browns have a better offensive line than the Colts do. I get that this was a trade for the long term but as a colts fan i don't see it paying off immediately, the colts schedule this season is absolutely brutal

if the pick ends up becoming a mid 1st round pick it will be a steal of a trade for the browns

And another thought is look at the colts schedule, this could be close to a top 10 pick for the browns. Im a Colts fan, but i am also realistic that this team could easily go 6-10 this season possibly even worse. I think the trade works out much better for the browns then most people are thinking

reckon they take Mettenberger with this pick next year? He would be a classic Browns QB, Derek Anderson Mk2

Really don't understand the move by the Browns. He did well last season. They must know something, or there must be some serious locker room issues. But a great move for the Colts.

What I heard was the Browns aren't that happy with the QB position and next years draft class will be loaded with QB's.

Great move by the Colts. Richardson will do better in Indy because of Luck. In Cleveland teams crowed the box because they knew the Browns can't throw. They won't be able to do that with Luck at QB and Wayne & Hilton as WR's.

The trade is even worse when you consider the three picks the Browns gave up just to get Richardson.

Essentially the trade is:

Browns trade 3rd and 4th overall, 4th, 5th and 7th rounders for

A pick somewhere in the 15 to 25 range

This is freaking awesome. Once we get Ballard back next year we are going to have two bowling balls back there.

I am excited too, couldn't believe it when I heard it! It seems so weird becase for years this is the type of trade you would NEVER see with Polian around, or purusing any high profile free agents either.

Yahoo!'s Dan Wetzel likes the Richardson trade:

Time and draft picks will tell who got the best of this deal. The Colts think they landed a multi-skilled running back who, when healthy, will prove potent in an offense that already features Andrew Luck and a dynamic passing attack. The Colts were shopping hard for a running back this week, realizing it's the piece they need to get back to the playoffs. Maybe this is the answer.

Or maybe Cleveland knows Richardson best. Outside of a couple of stars, running backs are a luxury. It's perhaps the easiest position to pick up off the street.

Jim Brown, the team's greatest player ever, welcomed Richardson to town by declaring him "ordinary." Richardson is better than that, although he hasn't shown much of it. He may not be worth a first-round pick – few backs are anymore. That's what Cleveland wound up getting back.

Or maybe it's win-win for everyone; Richardson wouldn't have thrived with the Browns, but can in a better-formed Colts scheme.

Either way, the Browns made their decision. Lombardi will have plenty of picks to work with in building a roster with plenty of holes. A highly touted quarterback is almost assuredly on the way.

That's next year, though. That's the future. There are 14 games still to play this season, and Cleveland is going to have to figure out how to make an NBA trade work in the brutal, all-in world of the NFL.

Chudzinski is going to earn his pay, because this may not be pretty.

I don't know how anyone can spin this as a win for the Browns... basically they traded a third overall pick for absolutely nothing but a what??? 20ish something pick... explain to me how the hell that's a good thing?? and for those saying 'wait and see what they do with the picks'... please show me the ONE draft the Browns have gotten right since they came back into the league that would suggest they'll do right by future picks...

anyone trying to sell that to me as anything but a total ham-fisted move can save their breath because I'm not buying... typical ‘one step forward and two steps back’ Browns…

It's comical how some people are already writing off Richardson.

He's 22. He's played one year.

Jim Brown wouldn't have been able to help the Browns last year.

Richardson will be a really talented player. Will he be a legend? Obviously no one can answer that. But that means you can't answer with, "no".

Great get for the Colts.

REPS

That's the key to this whole thing. The Browns never draft well. Why trade a player you know is at least a starting RB in the NFL (I think he is a stud) for an unknown. Like I said earlier--there's other ways to tank your season than making a bad trade.

When you run a back as much as the Browns did and he's facing 8 man fronts, he's not going to be super productive and is probably going to get dinged more than the average RB. TR won't be required to carry as heavy a load with the Colts which will help him.

Jim Brown has been pissed off at the world since he left football. Rarely do you hear a kind word come out of his mouth.

As a Colts fan, I'm happy to pick up Richardson. He could be great if we can get our line built.
