Hope he ends up at ND but if not happy he is ok and playing so well. Would love an explosive athlete like Isaiah playing for the Irish.

I understand due to his size he wont be ranked higher but im still some what shocked he is not ranked higher due to how much of an explosive playmaker he is

He's balling outta control. He's gonna be moving up the rankings regardless of size. I'm already excited to see his highlight reel at the end of the year.

He attends the same high school as Deeb did, right? Is there any indication of their friendship or communication? If this has been discussed previously I apologize.

Yes they are close

Isaiah's coach, Mike Rumph(former Hurricane db), has been banging the drum for colleges to take notice of this kid's explosive abilities in space. Michael Deeb has also promoted his former teammate's long gone speed. There's a line forming, and it's not just behind Sony Michel!

Rutgers visit planned for December 6th. He's having a beast of a year, I hope we can pick him up.

This does seem to be going the route of AQM. Kid would commit on the spot if he was admitted but since he's not, he continues to look around. The more he looks around, the more he becomes comfortable with something else. Knock on wood.

I feel like this will go to signing day. I am pretty sure he can't commit to ND right now. Otherwise he would have when he was on campus. That's just my opinion I don't want to speculate.

That would be baaaaaaaaad news. ND is not in a postition to wait till signing day and potentially get burnt with the recent history of transfers/injuries/playing-under-scholly-limit.

I would love to see this kid in an ND uniform, but not if it potentially means an unused scholarship.

An academic issue be it GPA, a test score, or necessary core courses needed to be taken, or a course retaken the results probably wouldn't be available until after the first semester of his senior year is committed. Waiting on Admissions is a virtue all ND coaches have to acquire and it's a reality they all have to factor into their planning.

If you think about it, he wouldn't sign until signing day even if he did commit today. So it's not necessarily bad news (in terms of him becoming an ND player).

I'm thinking more along the lines of coaches saving a spot for him when it may turn out that he doesn't qualify.

It simply brings up the debate of maybe bringing in a less-talented recruit that is guaranteed to qualify versus a player like Isaiah where qualifying may be an issue. Then you're left with an unused scholarship if that player signs on NSD but ends up not making it through the process.... like a Tee Shepard.

Of course, the scholarship could be used for a deserving walk-on player... but that's a different discussion.

Oh ok, I see.

Just from a philosophical standpoint, I hope they save the scholarship for the following year instead of taking a lesser player (Bruce Heggie, John Turner, etc.)

Maybe ND isn't ready to take a commitment from a 5'6 punt returner either with not elite speed? Who knows

That's a valid point as well, I was just thinking along the lines of all the "academic" talk that has surrounded his recruitment, if that indeed is the hold up.

Would we hold a spot for Isaiah? I have been thinking of this guy as in the "if he gets cleared before we fill up, great, but if not, good luck elsewhere" category.

I honestly think he has all of the above. There are guys that are faster, but not many at all IMO. He's electric.

I agree he is electric in the open field. But I think he has good/great speed and not elite.

He has excellent quickness and is fast. But he doesn't have elite speed.

Most of the time, I'd rather have a player with elite quickness and good top end speed (Carlisle) then good quickness and elite top end speed (GAIII).

My gut tells me that this ends poorly. To many examples of guys like AQM and Yuri Wright that "would commit to ND if they could"... but can't for whatever reason.

Just seems to always end poorly.

Yuri probably isn't the best example, but I feel you.

The majority of recruits with academic short-comings do end poorly as you have cited, but we occasionally get a gem like Davaris Daniels. That's what makes it all worthwhile.

I enjoy even more when they graduate. It takes a committed young man to start with an academic deficiency and end up not just competing on the gridiron but competing with a classroom of Whiskejacks and jimmymacs ... and succeeding.
