Whatever your thoughts on "dealing" drugs to friends, Catholic forgiveness, or the feelings of countless deserving non-athletes who won't get into Notre Dame for the fall of 2014, this is the same school that just this spring kicked out two football players for, allegedly, smoking pot in the dorm. Those are kids who were already in, one a likely starter this fall, not recruits who hadn't even committed and whose slot on the football team has since been taken by a better prospect.
Mr. Starks, whatever he did, would appear to be a long shot at this point. But we'll see.

This thread is weird.

That is at least the board operating theory for the pair of wide receivers who decided to transfer right before spring practice. I realize one of them may have had family reasons for leaving as well, but it's been oft-mentioned on here that they were caught together smoking pot in their dorm room and expelled.

Yes it is. But people are all acting like ND should "forgive" Starks and offer him a scholarship because he seems like a nice kid and he keeps in touch with coaches, when there's plenty of history of them lowering the boom on people who are much more established members of the "Notre Dame family" for comparable or lesser drug-related offenses. Thought that was worth mentioning is all.
That said, it's true, none of us really know what's going on here. Not that that's ever stopped message board speculators before.

You could build a structure the size of the Tower of Babel with the number of various soapboxes on this thread.

I don't think anyone has said any of that.

Notre Dame rejects kids with hundreds of hours of community service, high GPAs and test scores and are ideal candidates. ND is so high in demand among top level students it would almost be insulting to all the qualified applicants who are rejected as well as the students who attend/are accepted to admit a student with this on his record just because he can play football well.

Time and time again Notre Dame has proven to be an academic institution first. They won't sacrifice their ethics for the sake of the entire football program, let alone a single player at a position with plenty of depth.

I'm not demonizing Starks or accusing him of anything, I'm simply of the belief that his expulsion alone will "disqualify" him from gaining admission to ND

I get the ideal that you are speaking about. Kids work there butts off to get in why should he? Keep in mind that he's not taking a students spot, he's taking one of 85 scholarships the football team has available. So regular admissions have nothing to do with him or any incoming scholarship football player. Those kids that get rejected next year are going to get rejected regardless of whether Nathan plays at ND or not. This is not me condoning what he did just addressing a flawed point of view with the first part of your post.

Ummm... Me. I'm not on any "high horse"... but to think that a kid, who got EXPELLED from his school right before the start of his senior year, for selling drugs, has any chance of being accepted to ND is ridiculous. He had the golden opportunity right in front of him, and he blew it. Forget if the kid has learned BS and kids make mistakes crap... People often forget that we are talking about admitting him to one of the best Universities in the world, regardless of the football team. He brought this upon himself, and the administration will not, should not, and would be stupid for bringing in any individual to the school with his record regardless of their abilities.

Spot on. Well said!

Yes! Tee Shepard gained (contingent) admission due to academics. ND ADMISSIONS gave him a second chance to prove he could cut it. That was an academic situation. ND ADMISSIONS is not going to admit a student with such a serious character flag. Poor academics is not the same situation as poor character.

Which would fly in the face of the Catholic belief in forgiveness.

I'm not really sure where you're going with this? Forgiveness doesn't mean you give in to someone - it means you let go of any ill will. It doesn't mean everything goes back to "normal" and there are no consequences from one's (stupid) actions.

I think he is waiting to see if he has an actionable offer and then committing ASAP after that. Presumably to OU. Going off of his last tweet posted here, nothing more.

A myriad of life experiences mean more to me than your bullshit police propaganda.

Only a cop would feel the need to neg rep a dissenting opinion.

"You disagree on my opinion that your experiences are worthless? Are you disrespecting the authority?!? FEEL THE PAIN....errr, loss of internet points."

its ok, I thought he would take it like an adult, but cop haters usually have a certain personality. Nothing against him, I just thought what he said that particular post was ridiculous, as well as the other lad.

Good luck to the kid.
I honestly wouldn't want his commitment. Not that I think he's a bad kid it's just we have had so much recruiting /player drama that I think it's best we look at other options.

I don't know --- if you ask me "what the best volleyball scene ever is?" I would never answer it with 3/4 guys without their shirts on. I have a totally different scene in my head.
