Isn't he #10? He can't be on the field at the same time as Daniels then. I don't think he will ever play O

At Notre Dame, the number 5 is quite special. A player from Kentucky, who chose ND over Bear Bryant's Alabama, wore that number. Only Heisman Trophy winner from a losing team(2-8). First draft pick in 1957. College and Pro Hall of Fame member. Slow of foot, but hard to bring down.

After looking into the log jam at safety... Is there a chance max plays offense?

With a less than stellar recruiting class at wr. I wouldn't think it would be bad to dual train.

We hauled in 4 high quality WRs. Two of which were EEs and will probably play this year.

That point aside, I believe the staff has left the door open to the possibility of Redfield at WR

No they havent, Redfield is wearing #10 (at least that is what I have seen), if you want Davaris Daniels to not play on offense, then Redfield is NOT playing offense.

Not sure why everyone wants Redfield on offense, he is a safety, he was recruited as a safety, he will play as a safety. Its pretty good when a talent like Redfield may not play as much because of the talent in front of him.

Which year are you talking about?

The 2013 class.

No high school superstars. Just very nice players that could certainly develop.

With that said. There's no Floyd in this class. None of these new guys are guaranteed too pan out.

I don't want the wr position to hold the offense back once TJ is gone.

Losing davonte and Ferguson has already left us in a uncomfortable spot.

I'm sure torii Corey fuller and James will be good.

But just on that off chance we're left with a deion walker situation, you may want a superstar like max ready.

I'm definitely more concerned at wr right now than safety.

But perhaps the 2014 class will change things also.

But we have a Michael Floyd like receiver in Justin Brent so there is no need to panic right now

Daniels could come off the field? We also recruited Russell for RB.

Quote from Redfield:
“The coaches talked to me about playing both ways a little bit. They said if I could get the defense down, they might throw me in at receiver every now and then. A wide range of other schools offered me a chance to play receiver and safety as well.

“Any way I can get on the field, I want to do it. And I feel like I could contribute on both sides of the ball for Notre Dame.”

So yeah

They have left the door more than just open to him playing O. Sounds to me the staff is thinking the same thing as fightingirishlover7

Redfield would not start on offense this year. He will on defense by the end of the year.

There has been talk of Corey Robinson being a redzone threat this year, of Onwualu being impressive, and that Fuller might just be the best one in the class. We ended up with a nice WR class. We don't need a Michael Floyd and to expect one is crazy. Floyd was a 5:s: and a 1st round pick.

And to the bolded part, couldn't the same be said of Redfield as a WR?

And I should say that I don't total disagree that Redfield could help the offense, I just don't like how you characterized the WR class we pulled in because I think it is quite good

I sure hope you do not expect a Floyd like WR with every class. You will be disappointed quite often if that is the case.

I am very pleased with this WR class. There will be a lot of passes caught from this group.

there is nothing that says Max will pan out at wr more than any of the others we brought in.

lol, Did you really just say that? No they havent, at least not this year. Giving him #10 is the perfect sign. Why would the staff purposely give a player a number that would require their BEST WR to come off the field for him to play. I am sorry, but that does not make any sense. He may change his number after this year, but Redfield is NOT playing offense in 2013... I guarantee it.

So they told him he could play both ways this year but they haven't left the door open for him to play offense?

Okay.

I don't think he will play offense either but saying the staff hasn't left the door open to the possibility is just factually wrong unless you think either Max Redfield lied or the staff lied to him

I'm more concerned with the talent in front of Max at safety than I am with the talent ahead of him at WR....

I would also add that it is both:

1) easier to manufacture wr production than safety production
2) easier to hide deficiency in wr talent than safety talent

While I agree with your opinion that Redfield will not play offense this year, your logic is really flawed. If the staff's game plan called for Redfield to play offense in a certain week, they would simply change his number.

Plus, Redfield was the only safety in the 2013 class.
