I wish more coaches would do this and also college coaches would urge kids not to play in the all star games. I can understand kids wanting to showcase their talents, but at this point most of these kids have committed or if not certainly know their options. I do not understand the point of risking injury in a meaningless all star game. Torri Hunter Jr.'s injury was so unfortunate and I just see no reason to risk injury in these glorified exhibitions.

I'm not a doctor, but I think Torii's injury may have been a matter of time based on my understanding of what happened. I that's the case, having it happen when it did could be seen as a blessing.

I was not aware of that, but even so certainly still risk of getting hurt at these all star games, whether it was the case with Torii or not. At the same time there is really nothing much at all to be gained, so I see no need for these guys, especially those already committed to participate.

Just a thought... But any chance he could play QB?

Watching his tape... It's obvious he doesn't have a good arm... But just curious if its a possibility

I like the thought, but my thinking is that if the staff wanted an athlete first, thrower second at QB, Dawkins' would be higher up on the pecking order and his commitment would probably already be accepted.

But Dawkins is a '14 recruit... it is possible Golson could be back (I think) by the time Dawkins gets to ND whereas Kinlaw could play QB this year (potentially). I think that is the difference. But I would think Zaire is a better QB this year and in the long run, so it doesn't make much sense IMO. Interesting idea though, I think Kinlaw is a super athlete, let's hope he can stay healthy.

If we need a fourth guy to take reps at QB (perhaps because Rees/Hendrix/Zaire gets hurt), I think Luke Massa would be the first one to make the switch. He was recruited to ND as a QB and played QB on the scout team his freshman year.

Btw, he was a guy who I thought had no chance of being offered a 5th year ... if he ends up taking reps at QB again, I could see him coming back in 2014 for depth.

Even if Kinlaw was moved to help out at QB, it would never be this year.

Massa....... intriguing emergency back-up plan that I'd forgotten about. Luke COULD possibly give Kelly a little airspace when he's coming down to the 2014 recruiting class wire and flipping coins on a second QB. REALLY important that Coach gets a clear read from Andrew, though, about a fifth year.

Yep. Massa is a reason why I don't think we NEED to get two QBs in the 2014 class, at least not yet, assuming we continue to look good for one or two good 2015 prospects.

Kinlaw will play CB or WR. I really would like to see him play slot. Think he could be dynamic there.

This. When we got Cole Luke last year that was my first thought. I think Cole Luke is a stud CB and enables the staff to move Kinlaw around if possible.

Rashad Kinlaw hasn’t even started his collegiate career yet, but the incoming Notre Dame cornerback already has a great appreciation for the game after missing the majority of his final two seasons at Absegami High School in Galloway, N.J.

“You can go down at any given second, on any play and you can be down and be out for weeks or months,” the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder said.

Kinlaw knows.

He broke his leg early in his junior season in 2011, but was back to full strength the next summer before suffering another broken leg while playing for Team USA.

“It was very frustrating,” he admitted. “I just don’t like sitting out.”

Kinlaw did return for a couple games at the end of his senior season, but is ready to move on at Notre Dame.

“That’s what I’m really waiting for, just getting back on the field to compete,” he said. “It’s been like two years.”

Kinlaw is pretty much finished with the rehabilitation process, but it won’t be fully complete until the Notre Dame medical staff gets the chance to check him out when he reports next week.

“I haven't really done much rehab lately,” he said. “I’ve just been running miles, getting my wind up and lifting a little. I will rehab much more when I touch down in South Bend on June 16th and get with the trainers.

“Everything feels good. I’m just getting my legs back stronger and my footwork right now.”

Kinlaw can’t wait to get to South Bend for good.

“I’m really excited to get up there so I can get the feel for things and get training and everything,” he said. “I just want to meet new people, get around new things, and experience some new stuff.”

And redshirting certainly isn’t in his plans at this point.

“I want to try to make special teams at least and then maybe get into some dime or nickel packages when they get extra DBs on the field,” he said.

“I just need to make sure when I’m there, I’m at the top of my game and not slacking off or being lazy or anything.”

And after being forced to sit out much of the last two seasons, slacking off is the last thing to expect from Kinlaw.

I really like his attitude and willingness to work. I also wish him a very healthy career. IMO, the only thing that could derail a successful career at ND is injuries. So, I'll be prayin for ya, Rashad.

This line impressed me. Realism instead of bravado, but you can tell there's still confidence and a desire a compete.

But I thought young people today were all lazy and expected the world to be handed to them.

Havent heard his name yet, or Devin Butler for that matter. Hoping to start hearing his name more but he probably wont play much if at all this year.

IMO, I hope we don't. Both should RS this year and get basically zero reps outside of scout team with Wood, Jalen Brown, Atkinson, etc. providing the veteran depth if needed.

I thought I saw a tweet earlier after practice that said Butler was getting 2nd team reps opposite Luke.

Hearing good things about Butler, but nothing about Kinlaw. I think Butler might see the field and Kinlaw sits.

Not to freak everyone out by a scary thread bump, but Rashad is expecting a baby boy. I believe the mother is back in New Jersey.
