Is it just me or does bama have one of the more disrespectful fan bases going anyway? I understand EH is a player and not a fan, but come on... tea bag people on camera, poison trees (and my experience has been more than enough seem to think THOSE are funny jokes) and I honestly don't think I've come across many bases that are as myopic and insulting towards ND... just my two cents…

but the good lord forbid anything be done/said against G'ole bamer...

with all that said, he shouldn't have done it... but give me a break on their butthurt...

My brother in law lives in TN but is an Alabama fan. In January, before the NCG he was talking near me about how ND "didn't play anybody." Not taking the bait, I chimed in, I said I suppose that's because they are too focused on the "college" aspect of college football.

He responded by saying Alabama has the top business school in the country. I just looked at him for a few seconds, not sure if he was serious (he was). I responded that's a little hard to believe since ND's Mendoza school of business was #1 two years running. (The smile on his face left quickly.) I said I wasn't sure who won it for 2012, but I'd be surprised if Alabama beat out any of the Ivies, and several more.

I said, besides that ND graduates 100% of their black football players all while making them take calculus and other real classes, with many of them actually in the business program.

His response was to stick his middle finger in my face, laughed and walk away. Yea, that's how you treat someone who gave you some money years ago when you were unemployed.

I cannot fathom how anyone in their right mind would ever claim Alabama has the #1 business school in the country. I am sure Alabama as a university offers a fine education in whatever areas they emphasize. But it's not known for its business school, let alone #1 in the nation (as if that would mean anything for the FB players anyway).

There must be a disconnect between the logical lobe and the southern college football fandom lobe of the brain.

Although he is young, I don't think it is wise for Hood to do this. Very unrespectable. Hopefully when we meet Alabama in the future, it would be another fuel for them against us, which we do not need. He also is a recruiting tool for us and it does not vote well for his judgment for other recruits who are also considering Alabama and us.

Yeah it's a disrespectful but it's also funny and harmless. We are talking about a game. Smack-talk goes with the territory. I think folks are being too sensitive about this one.

ND also plays a tougher schedule typically and did so last year according to... well... everyone...

and these rankings don't typically take into account the week in week out aspect of ND's schedule, which would almost certainly give ND a bump over just about everyone... most rely more on pure win loss records of opponents (hence SEC bottom feeders being rather high year to year when the top SEC teams never seem to play each other but somehow never avoid playing Ole Miss or Kentucky)

First, we have two good posters-- Bishop and T Town Tommy-- who are 'Bama fans. Both are polite, reasonable and articulate, so out of consideration for them, please phrase your generalizations about 'Bama fans carefully.

Second, large southern state schools are strongly associated with regional and cultural pride for their fans. So when we criticize such schools, SEC fans take it personally. Many ND fans can sort of relate to this because of the strong connection between Catholicism, identity, and Our Lady's University. But most of us would react differently to an insult against ND v. an insult against one's mother.

The latter tends to evoke a much more visceral response than the former; which I think helps to explain why lots of 'Bama fans are apoplectic, while everyone else is mildly amused. Just basic tribalism at work.

You're right it was disrespectful. He should have taken a shot of the bottom of the bird cage or garbage can. What do you do with your junk mail?

Personally, as a Environmental Engineer, I'm appalled that he would be so thoughtless as to throw recyclable material into a system designed to handle excrement.

Hmm, perhaps the lad is brighter than we give him credit. He's definitely funnier.

Let's keep in mind it was Tuscaloosa fans that thought up the box of detergent bookended by rolls of toilet paper to represent their catchphrase. Hood merely followed their lead.

After toiletgate, this becomes a much larger insult. After he eats that M card, he's gonna have to flush some M stool down the #rolltoilet!

1. College football was better when opponents truly hated each other (ND vs Miami, etc.)

2. The level of venom showed during that time period would make people who find this little stunt disrespectful blush, and probably cry a little

*I'm sick of how Facebook, Twitter, "The Opening", etc. turn these kids into BFFS before they even step on a collegiate field.

Back in the heyday, guys weren't hugging and kissing after games, reminiscing about the "Elephant Walk" ESPN had them do together during a flag football game....

This young man is really getting raked over the coals for this. He seems like a kid that really likes to have a good time and was having fun. That's all it looks like to me.

Keep smiling EH. And keep recruiting!!

So when top recruits flip flop, we bitch that ND can't hold on to elite talent.
Now we have a top recruit that is so adamant about ND that he is letting other schools know they are wasting their time trying to recruit him, and now we're mad about that too!?

Showed the clip to my dentist today. He's a big UA alum. He roared with laughter. He in turn showed it to a 60 something patient in another room. This guy also laughed and said, "That's funny. Wish some of our fans were that clever instead of poisoning trees and indecent exposure."

The 60 something guy was a starter for Bear Bryant against Ara in the Sugar Bowl.

This^^
I gotta jump in and rant on this one. Football is a violent game, teams hate each other theres big rivalries etc...its not all hugs and kisses and neither is life outside of football or sports. Everyone has become too sensitive these days in my opinion, Hood didnt use any bad language he was simply flushing a recruiting letter. Hes expressed hes not interested and still gets letters and he had a little fun making a video of him flushing them.
Hes going to be a senior in high school give the kid a break, theres a lot worse things he could be doing; selling/using drugs, out causing trouble in the streets, or anything else. He didnt harm anyone and he didnt make any mean comments towards the university. I dont find it disrespectful; people joked about Mantis girlfriend situation and its not disrespecting him its just a joke and Manti handled it pretty well. People need to lighten up. Theres all kinds of trash talk during games and such but is it really disrespectful? I dont mind it, trash talk always got me pumped up and its a part of the game; there were no personal attacks on anyone either its not that big of a deal. If they dont want their letters flushed then dont send him anymore.
Alright im done haha

The only way Elijah's video could have been more appropriate is if he had relieved himself on it before he flushed it. The only thing I'm offended by in this situation is that he apologized.

This isn't a big deal, but is predictably being blown out of proportion by the media. I don't really care, it'll blow over soon, but honestly, I just want a few months where ND doesn't make any headlines.

These are the awesome kinds of headlines - the kind that make you look awesome.

What media is talking about this, BTW? I'm sure Tuscaloosa talk radio and twitter are all over it, but I don't do either of those and I haven't seen it anywhere but here on IE.

A lot of smaller websites have run the story but nothing major. None that I've seen have been negative towards Elijah. I did see a screenshot of SportsCenter with #rolltoilet in the lineup of things to be discussed (on Elijah's twitter I think) but I didn't hear what they had to say. Did anyone else?

It was on the USA Today website, LA Times, sbnation, nothing front page or anything. I'm not talking about this headline specifically, it's just I'd rather get out of the news and media completely until the season begins haha

I checked out an Alabama board, they were quite civil about it for the most part. Kids being kids exasperated by social media. No big deal.

Yeah I did as well, they handled it really well I thought, I don't think IE would of handled it as well as what I saw from bama boards honestly, then again, the world is probally alot brighter when your winning nattys, and not losing quarterbacks.

was watching espn's sport nation tonight for first time and they played Elijah's video.

All three of the panelists loved it. They agreed it was "immature" but also noted he is a kid and kids are allowed to be immature when its good fun. They all also were upset he apologized.
