I'm gonna LMAO everywhere if O$U doesn't make the cut somehow.

However I don't expect that to happen.

Don't you know that his offer isn't committable if OSU isn't in his top 4.... Of course OSU pulled his offer first.

Two notable De La Salle footballers who played for Notre Dame are George Connor(first Outland Trophy winner) and Renaldo Wynn.

Notre Dame football recruiting: Jones puts Irish in his final four - southbendtribune.com

“They were in the national championship game last year so I know they're going to be really competitive again this year,” Jones said. “Coach (Brian) Kelly's a great coach. They're a great program — the tradition and the academics to go along with it.’’

On his last visit to ND, Jones spent most of the practice watching offensive line coach Harry Hiestand lead his unit.

"I got to see his coaching style and how he works with the players,” Jones said,, “which was a great thing to see. You want know how a coach interacts with his players."

Maybe we are not so out if it. Even if we don't land JJ, I love hearing these kind of quotes. They get out there!

Eric Hansen referred to him multiple times as Demarco Jones on the radio today. C'mon man!

Butthurt O$U fan on tBB over @ 24/7:

So Notre Dame picked up 3 offensive linemen in 2012, 5 offensive linemen in 2013, and currently have 3 offensive linemen committed for this class for a total of 11 over the past 3 years. TTUN picked up 5 offensive linemen in 2012, 6 offensive linemen in 2013, and currently have 2 offensive linemen committed for this class for a total of 13 over the past 3 years. Ohio State picked up 4 offensive linemen in 2012, 2 offensive linemen in 2013, and currently have 2 offensive linemen committed for this class, for a total of 8 over the past 3 years. All 3 of those schools have great offensive line coaches and a rich history of tradition. At a certain point, I would have to think depth would become an issue for these recruits. Better chance to start early or at least be in the two deep from day one at Ohio State. For Jamarco Jones, it should be a no-brainer. Actually, if I were a talented offensive lineman in the Midwest who wanted to stay home, Ohio State would definitely give the best option to play early at this point in time.

Ha. Well, we didn't get 3 OL in 2012, we got 2 because those O$U a-holes stole Decker from us. But still, his point remains. Don't know if Jones is looking at the depth chart and thinking of playing time but if he is, O$U seems to be the place to go.

The Team Up North

Anyway, about the post. If I was an OL, would I really want to play early? I know there are physical freaks out there that could play from day one, but has anyone done a study to see whether or not an OL is better off red-shirting than playing early?

It almost seems to work the opposite way, top Oline recruits looking to go places with more top Oline recruits, IMO. I guess I can see why, too- makes their job a lot easier if the guy next to them is kicking butt as well. Also I feel like top Oline schools (like Bama, Wisky, Iowa (historically), Stanford (recently) put a disproportionate amount of guys into the NFL, even with the talent that comes in.

Just wondering though, at what point do we stop taking 4+ in a cycle? we took 5 in 2013, 2 in 2012, 4 in 2011, 4 in 2010, 3 in 2009, had 2 transfers along the way. That puts us at 10 OL on campus right now, and 14 by the fall (stanford's at 16, with 2 coming in, for comparison, no idea if any are walkons). I assume we need at least 4 this year to get us back up to 14, as we're losing 4 (assuming lombard goes) after this season. Personally, I don't have a problem just taking 4 every year, but at some point you'd think Kelly's gonna want to use that spot on a skill player...

Every athlete wants to play. If he doesn't I wouldn't want him on my team. However, there is a difference between wanting to play and wanting to play but accepting that you aren't quite there yet. You have to be willing to accept you may not be ready to play, but if you don't want to play immediately I'd examine my head.

Also thanks with the help on the TTUN. Figured it was them but wanted to be sure.

Well, I think you are right there is a difference.

I guess I suffer from the Sam Young syndrome. I felt he was thrown out there too early and that it really held him back in the long run. Oh well.

I agree that athletes can be thrown out there too early (often the case of OL). But I think that is the coaches job to decide. The athlete always wants to play (and should).

Absolutely. OL may be the only position in CFB where a thin depth chart is arguably a negative for recruiting.

Hopefully never. Since ND doesn't take JuCos, we need to carry 16-18 in order to handle natural attrition from transfers, injuries, etc.

IMO linemen need time to grow and learn the system. I think throwing freshmen OL in to start is a bad idea.

I agree, but I think the poster is making the point that if Jamarco wants to play early, his best option is OSU due to scholly numbers. He may not be ready (and the coaching staff I'm sure sees it as a bad situation), but if he wants to play super early, that's his best chance.

I understood him perfectly. If Jamarco wants early PT, then OSU is where he needs to go, cause we are snapping up all the OL. He might not see the field for a couple of years at ND, but if he is good enough, then Kelly will play him and he will have beaten out numerous outstanding recruits in doing so...so more power to him.

Buster Bluth had a a great graphic of rankings of ND OL vs O$U OL but I cant remember the thread.

Man.. I'm not sure if "The Team Up North" comes across to others the way they intend it to.

I know we refer to them as O$U, scUM, etc, but it's not institutionalized.. just goof offs on a message board.

To me, it comes off as really petty and a little scared when the coaches and staff all do it too.

I kind of get that feeling too, like its an uncomfortable snobbery. Its kind of like when a politician won't refer to his opponent by name when they are standing right in front of them at a debate. lame.

Man, I was expecting a lot worse. Honestly, on an OSU board, written by an OSU fan, that really isn't that bad. I've seen WAY more homerism on their boards, and on here too (don't even get me started on the Denard Robinson thread lol).

At least he admits we have a great O-line coach, and while I disagree that they have a great O-line coach, I do think Warriner is pretty good, just not great and nowhere near the recruiter that we have in Heistand.

If I'm an OSU fan, my anger is directed at Warriner's recruiting, not at player's looking for an easy entry into playing time.

Check out the 11w thread on ND's possible stadium changes. You'll have to read thru a bunch of it to get to the really good stuff, but it's lol worthy.

Also, osu fans think Warriner is the best ol coach in the country, bar none.
