This is bull$hit. There are 7 teams in the ACC that reside in states that I travel to for work, and we're not playing 1 of them. Bull$hit.

Not a complete schedule. At least 3 ACC teams not currently on the schedule will be added.

I am pretty sure that scheduling Temple was to get in the Philadelphia market for recruiting purposes. I would doubt they cancel that game if that is the case.

Don't drop the Temple series before the Irish play in Philly! It's less than an hour's drive for me.

I like it. Big enough program to be a prime-time game, but over-rated enough to be more than winnable.

Awesome.

Adds some needed meat to our schedule IMO plus should help with recruiting

Why don't you people like this?

Rather play NC State or Duke?

I don't really see the big deal. We're going to have to go down there eventually no matter what.

When you beat Fla. State in overtime, people think you're good.

When you beat Pittsburgh in overtime, people think you suck.

It doesn't totally make sense, but it is what it is.

Whatttttttttt

Why?

Because all you need are 1 or 2 legit games on your schedule. 4 is straight up stupid and unnecessary. It's how you end up 8-5 like Michigan last year... optionally played ND and Alabama for no reason. OSU was a 9/10 win team with what you all think is a 'reasonable' schedule.

I think the piece about recruiting is legitimate. I know ND is a national brand, but there's something different about actually going to places like Texas, Cali, and Florida.

From a competitive standpoint, if we win every game we'll be fine. This change probably hurts that effort a bit.

Word.

The way we schedule, a 12-0 guarantees a national championship and 11-1 makes it likely, too. We don't need to go overboard with Oklahoma, Texas, FSU, when we already have USC, Michigan, and now Stanford. Not to mention, we don't get 2 'gimmes' since we don't play FCS schools... Also, FSU has been killing recruiting and this year and next they're straight scary on paper.

FSU has been scary on paper for years. So has Notre Dame. Going into Tallahassee will be tough, but if we lose it won't be for a huge difference in talent.

If teams like Temple and Rice aren't considered a "gimme," then this program has not progressed as much as I thought.....

This is also in-between the Oklahoma and Texas years, so you're really just looking at Mich., Stanford, USC and Fla. State. I like our chances.

Again, why play 4 teams that on paper are yearly top 10? Who the hell does this besides us and if someone gets an unlucky SEC draw? All you need to do is play 1 or 2 tough teams (or in Ohio State's case 0) and run the table.

Lax, feel free to go root for tOSU if you're wanting to watch a school whom does their damndest to schedule their way into the NC picture.....I have no interest in watching the Irish play teams like Temple, or Rice for that matter. With the way recruiting is going, and everybody saying what a top notch coach Brian Kelly is......why should the Irish be afraid to go play in Tallahassee???

Bama ran through the SEC last year, and still handed us our lunch and dinner on the NCG......that's what I'd like to be able to say ND accomplished!!

Would you rather ND average 8-4 a season against a schedule full of heavyweights or average 10 wins a season against a manageable schedule like every other team plays?

If you choose the former, that is crazy. It hurts recruiting, pisses people off, gets coaches fired, and gets you a bad bowl game. The latter? Gets you a BCS bowl and optimism and rainbows and sunshine.

I would much rather sacrifice 1 or 2 tough regular season games to get to play in a marquee bowl game and not the Belk Bowl. This isn't EA sports where you can just line 'em up and mow 'em down. You have a base 50% chance of losing a game against an evenly matched team. And any given year, we're going to be evenly matched with teams like Florida State.

We shouldn't be afraid to play any individual team, but when half of our schedule is made up of elite programs that are each legitimate threats to beat us, the odds of going undefeated plummet. Virtually all of the major football powers schedule their way to post-season glory.

You mean that 'Bama squad that played Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic and Western Carolina? And still lost to aTm? Had KSU or UO not choked down the stretch, they woulda been shut out.

Time to digress guys, our schedule could look like this:

Alabama
Texas
Oklahoma
USC
Michigan
Florida State
LSU
Navy
Oregon
Air Force
Ohio State
Florida

*And every swinging d-ick out there would still say "Bahahahahaha. You played Navy and Air Force. What a joke!!!!"

Weird discussion in my opinion. We will cycle through all the ACC teams playing NO ONE every year... how's that simple fact not registering as a starting point for discussion? Ideal scheduling would get FSU one year; VT another; Clemson a third etc, rather than loading all the studs up in the same year, but sooner or later you have to beat them all down.

This in general is what Whiskey is trying to get across --- get a DECENT schedule [within our national recruiting parameters, and a very few old colleagues like Navy], and DO NOT load up every week, or even two weeks out of three, with top 20 teams. Beating down your own personnel so that they can not reasonably be at their best for the critical games on the schedule lacks perspective bordering on juvenile fantasy gaming. One might debate how many true powers is best, but that number is probably four at most, and those scattered if possible.

I find it ... well, actually surreal, to listen to people wanting to throw our guys out there in front of a murderer's row of meatgrinders while they sit back beer-in-hand to watch and b!tch about losing now and then.

I'm, sorry, but we don't play a murderers row.......if you consider Purdue, Pittsburgh, BYU, the Naval Academy, and Michigan State part of a murderers row let's get real, on top if that, Michigan wasn't really all that good last year. Southern Cal was playing with a backup, and I haven't even mentioned Wake yet......
