Who do you think is the 'next man in' behind diaco after he gets a head coaching job?

Kelly has a penchant for internal promotions, or at least going back to guys he's worked with before. I'm not familiar enough with this staff--who do you guys think would be a good fit?

I'm hoping that Diaco will want to stick around until we win a NC or ten, but who knows.

I'd guess Cooks would step into the job. Isn't he co-DC now? Elliot would coach the secondary and we'd probably hire a linebackers coach.

Alternatively, I could see Jeff Quinn rejoining Kelly. He was Kelly's OC at Cincy and coached with Kelly for like 20 years before becoming the head coach at Buffalo. Buffalo has been terrible the last three years. Assuming Cooks becomes the defensive coordinator, Quinn could come replace Booker as our TE coach, Booker could move to defense to coach the secondary (which is his background ... he played safety at Kent State and was a defensive backs coach before coming to ND) and Elliot could coach the LBs. With his experience, I imagine Elliot could coach anywhere on the defense.

Another possibility is Ernest Jones becoming a full-time coach.

Did I say Bill Parcells? I meant Bill Belichick. Parcells would just be crazy, ha.

Notre Dame needs to match any offer he gets(and add some more); there is no next man in. Diaco is the starter, the back up, and the reserve; not out of necessity, but out of choice.

Perhaps Chuck Martin makes the move back to the Defensive side of the ball, if Kelly has someone else he can trust to run his offense by then?

The chances would be unlikely, but I've always liked Tim DeRuyter.

I have good information that a couple of months ago Diaco and his family was looking to build a house in South Bend. Doesn't mean anything definitively but that is generally a good sign.

He will obviously take a head coaching job somewhere else someday but it may not be as early as one might think/expect.

Well with Joker Philips fired at UK, his DC should be updating his resume.

What more could you want than a DC who's already been let go twice from ND?

Get Coach Yoast in here yesterday. He knows how to shut down the NY Jets offensive system and he can bring in Petey and Sunshine to give the girls a thrill.

He is still unproven. Although he is young, energetic, and a hell of a recruiter and coach, he isn't ready for the big show yet. Quit putting ideas in his head! Haha. Let him continue to cut his teeth under Kelly for another ten years or so.

The second we start to put things together and turn it around so many are preparing for it to fall apart. Geez...this to me is like making a list of women you can call to date because your current girl got a boob job and will likely leave you.

Being the assistant head coach and defensive coord at ND is better than most head coaching jobs out there.

The only thing that I do find weird about Diaco is that in all the interviews I have seen and I think I have seen most...he never says the words Notre Dame. He uses words like program, university, institution , here etc....that certainly makes me think he has bigger aspirations and I am sure he will move on at some point, but I don't see that for a few more years at least. I don't think coach Diaco is going anywheres for a couple years. I think one Diaco likes it here at ND. Not to mention look at the success he can have with the talent the coaches are bring in.

Hah! I appreciate it! I was a DC this past season, but honestly, I'm more of an offensive mind and player coach. :) That being said, I wouldn't let you down.

But think of the ****-storm here if you did! You'd need to close your IE account just to keep from crying ...
