No disrespect to Jason sapp but if Mack called up Alford and said I want in they wouldn't say no

While I think schools will take him if he calls and says I want to commit, some school are not actively recruiting him. The Gators stop pushing for him a long long time ago even when they were the "favorites" in state program. Bama is still keeping in contact but they are pushing for Ramsey.

You know what kind of coaches pass on Mackenzie Alexander? Stupid ones. You know what Brian Kelly isn't? Stupid. Save a spot for him. Find a way to fit him on the team. Are we seriously going to keep an underachiever for an extra year instead of getting a borderline 5 star cornerback? Carlo shouldn't come back. First, he's not good. Second, he's had problems with penalties and then the off the field incident (which wasn't a big deal but still not going to help anything). Carlo being a backup next year would have less of an impact than a 5 star corner would in 3 or 4 years. It's an easy decision.

DA TRUTH!!!! Preach!

I tend to agree but I am wondering if the issue is more not wanting to deal with the on again off again. If he called today and committed would you really buy it until signing day?

Yes. It comes down to....do we want to hold everything until this guy makes a decision, possibly losing someone ready to commit along the way?

I'd tell Mack.....Send in your signed LOI and I'll hold your spot.

Yeah, in a follow-up comment on Tunnel Vision Sapp confirmed that this is basically how ND will proceed with Alexander. Won't push for him, but would take him if he called and wanted in.

Something has to be really off for Muschamp not to be pushing hard for a player like Mac.

I think this is the answer, or part of it, anyway. Coaches can't get a read on whether he has sincere interest or not, and they are starting to wonder if they are just wasting their time on him.

Plus, UF already has VHIII, no? Don't get greedy, ALLGATOR ...

Agree with everybody it won't be shocking no matter where he ends up. Would be nice if he visited for the Wake game but who knows what MacK is gonna do.

Says ND is too far away and too cold.

Sounds like he really wants to play in the SEC. A&M, Florida, Mississippi State all mentioned favorably. Clemson got dinged a little because it is in the ACC, where there's not much competition, according to Mackenzie.

I'm glad we focused our efforts elsewhere.

I will never understand this as a reason. I understand it matters to recruits to be in a nice climate, just don't see how it is such a big factor that it is one of the first things mentioned so frequently.

Just guessing here, but ND probably stopped showing him love and he got upset and now ND is too far and too cold.

Players like this (can throw AL in that category) are destined to get drafted by Buffalo.

Landing a player like Mack requires a lot of recruiting resources. The staff did the right thing in trying to get an early read and dropping him when it became clear that he's a total crapshoot.

Yup. One thing that is good about coaches not being able to comment on recruiting is that kids get to dictate the narrative and save face. If a team stops calling a player, they don't also put out a press release about it because they can't. That allows kids to say whatever they want about their receuitment, which I'm in favor of. These are just kids going through what can be a harsh and emotional process.

ND fans who do you think is better Alexander or Ramsey?

I haven't seen enough of Ramsey to have an opinion; ND was never involved with him so I didn't bother. Curious if Philly or GITF or any other ND recruitniks do.

Ramsey is a better cover corner. Think Alexander is more of what ND looks for in a corner in our D, specifically in tackling / run support ability.

More appropriate question might be who is the better corner Mackensie alexander or Cole Luke? We might add to the corner equation Devin Butler and athletes Rashad Kinlaw and Will Fuller. Staff got their man in Luke. Too cold, too far, and too much of a challenge Alexander was a reach.

I think Ironman nailed this one. Ramsey better cover corner and Alexander more physical, better tackler, etc.
