I'm sure he is gonna being ready to go this weekend. Don't know how much time he will see cause with Slaughter out Motta is gonna need to be out there every play lining up the other young guys.

He was really jacked up for the opening kickoff against Mich. St. can't wait to see what he can do when its Mich he is hitting instead of GAIII lol.

All you who don't think highly of Motta, haven't been up on things as much as you would like? Well you are half right, there were times he missed assignments, but he has never been slow. Motta will need to be out there. But it was confirmed in the post-MSU press conference that Slaughter would be out permenently with a ruptured Achilles tendon. (NOT AN ACHILLES HEEL as some have misstated.) In fact, I think his surgery is today. But as Coach Kelly stated, he felt bad for Jamoris, and regretted that loss, but there were people back there, ready to take over. In fact, as a test, Kelly said he wouldn't have a problem brining Farley up on the line as an extra backer, one of Slaughter's specialties.

I say you are half right, as that puts youway ahead of some previous posters. Coach Kelly said that Salvi could also help with alignment of yongsters but he was going to play some people.

A) Motta will gain significant reputation as a team leader and the phenomenal tallent that he is. He also has suffered with something akin to the Harrison Smith effect. Back a few years ago I argued for HS when the majority wanted to write Harrison off; You are going to see Zeke EXPLODE. My prediction. He will knock the shiit out of some people this weekend and remain assignment correct.

B) A lot of bodies are going to play. This is a disciplined group of kids. There will be subsitutions to keep fresh legs. The back end will support the front seven admirably.

The receiver was open on the play, the ball was just badly thrown. Either way, he had a pretty good day, especially for a true freshman.

Yeay Nick!!! You were one of the guys who just looked like a winner to me, as well as a super athlete. You and your buddies [Elijah, Keivaree, Matthias, et al] are bringing something really special to the D-Backfield. You guys are going to be a great unit.

I'm hoping a physical resemblance isn't the only thing she shares with Smith.

Nicky dislocated his shoulder sometime throughout the game but continued to play with is popped out. As a PT, I hate to hear this due to the sequela of problems that can come from it. As a fan, I love it. The kid shows grit and didn't want to leave his teammates hanging. Hopefully he stays off the injury list through the week from this.

Am I just crazy or is the amount of injuries we seem to have that require surgery seem really high?

I don't follow any other college programs closely enough to know for sure, but I'm under the impression that it's fairly commonplace for football players to play through minor joint injuries (shoulders, elbows, knees), and that such injuries are corrected via surgery after the season so the player can make a full recovery.

I don't follow anyone else either, but I feel every year I hear more and more about guys needing surgery.

Pretty routine for a football player to need to get their labrum cleaned up. Just like getting a knee scoped.

That really all depends on the extent of the tears(s). Either way, he's better off with a labrum tear than a meniscus IMO.

Actually I don't think so. There's news 24/7 and internet more than that (so it seems).

I used to track ND injuries. I still do but since FERPA and Weis it's hard to get much information during the season.

Before the internet you only got what the announcer or the beat writer reported. Coaches preferred that the local writer didn't point out for the opposition that the LT had a left shoulder muscle tear. Most writers complied. Often players thought to be in coaches dog house were nursing an injury. PT was scarce or non-existent while the player mended.

When Joey Getherall was playing around '98 plus or minus there were a rash of hamstring injuries, quick guys and big, slow guys. Many explanations were thrown out including cold weather, improper/inadequate warmup/stretching, practice surface, footgear, etc, etc.

Following that offseason they modified the weight training program and the injuries lessed (not sure anyone looked at the co-incidence of global warming).

Another year quads seemed to more prevalent.

Post season the trainer may present a paper at a professional conference on the frequency of injuries but the beat writers don't cover professional conferences.

Right now there's a lot of focus on head trauma but don't look for Eric Hansen or Prister to write a piece player by player. That comes out of the med school that does the research and they don't identify individuals.

There was a lot of ink over Barrett Jones having an foot injury in the week before the NCG. I did read a specific description until a day after the game.

Technically, the meniscus is the 'labrum' of the knee. There isn't a meniscus in the shoulder or hip like there is in the knee, nor is there a 'labrum' in the knee like there is in the shoulder or hip. Just thought I'd clear that up. Knowledge is power.

Also, meniscal injuries frequently don't get operated on. I have a torn one from a jet ski crash but I'm just living with it. It doesn't limit me in any way; just a nuisance every now and then.
