All these recruits committing and taking official visits... it's gotta be a nightmare trying to recruit for college coaches. Never certain of anything. Swinney is a great recruiter but I can't imagine he likes recruits who do this.
I can't imagine anyone does.
On the other hand, why would we host a kid on an OV who's committed elsewhere, has already visited and doesn't even have us on his short list?
I mean, I know why. Because why not? He might flip, so what the hell.
But one reason (among many) this process is so screwy is that there are so few checks on the schools in terms of who they go after. They get kids on campus and it stirs up all kinds of stuff.
I wonder if limiting the number of OVs you can host would rein things in a bit. After all, the kids can only take five. Maybe the schools can only host 50 or 60. They'd dole them out more judiciously, and maybe "commit" starts to reflect the meaning of the word if it's a little harder to "take my trips."
Would also help prevent situations like last year's USC game. I'm sure they all had a blast, but how many of the dozens of recruits we hosted will actually be wearing a gold helmet this fall?
Of course, maybe limiting officials just boosts unofficial visits, especially the kind paid for under the table by boosters. I don't know. Dirty business, this college football. I do love it, though.
