Would be a huge impact player this weekend. Could dominate as our nickel back (because we're going to be playing with 5 DBs almost all game) while also being physical against the run from that position. Instead we'll be playing Atkinson, Brown, or Shumate there... huge drop off. Sigh.

I really hope someone gives him a shot in the NFL.

My guess is Shumate, Shumate has been good this year

The fact that we have a kid like Shumate to plug in there in this situation speaks volumes for where this program is headed.

I wish we had our boy Jamoris healthy but at least Shumate has been impressive from the small amount we've seen.

Wow! Our nickel would be phenomenal! We could actually send some heat and really destroy some qbs...

Having Jamoris back would be absolutely massive for the D, not only for his great on-field talent but as a leader for the D. Losing two captains could hurt and not having a lot of seniors on the D, but Jamoris with his experience would be fantastic. Give it to him, NCAA!

If this indeed happens, there may be only 1 schollie that is unspoken for (counting AQM as a silent). Hmmm.....

What would the DBs look like next season if this happened?

FCB- Jackson
FS- Farley
SS- Slaughter
BCB- Russell

It would be Slaughter at FS and Farley at SS or the opposite. Slaughter can play all 4 DB spots.

agreed staff seems to be all about putting the best 11 on the field and with jamoris in the picture with his flexibility it would would allow us to keep farley where he is and jamoris replacing zeke.

I would not be surprised if the timing of this situation precipitated the Luke announcement.

I think he would be on the field for the leadership role. His play gets him on the field clearly but his captain-like quality is invaluable to a still young secondary.

Having Slaughter back would be huge for for our defense's leadership. We are losing so much experience this year with Teo, Kap, and Motta leaving. I would be much less worried if he got his sixth year.

I still don't see how they'll get around the requirement that the athlete have lost more than one season due to injury/hardship.

Check it out if you are interested:
NCAA Publications - 2011-2012 NCAA Division I Manual
Section 14.2.1.5

But our compliance office has worked miracles before. See Amir Carlisle.

Should go without saying that it would be huge to have him back.

This would be a huge thing to have Slaughter back for one more season. It was devastating losing him so early in the season and if he is allowed to come back he could improve his chances to play on Sundays as well as provide solid leadership to a very young secondary.

There are some things happening that involved his Senior season of high school football and an injury he had, how that translated to his freshman year here. Not sure if it's going to work but it certainly is a great try.

Yep, that's all we need. If we can show that he missed more than one season due to injury, we've got a fighting chance.
