Doesn't everyone in Texas have an F250?

Wonder if he made that.

Pretty cool. If I had a yard, I'd love to have that.

There's a difference between being wealthy, and being so wealthy that you can afford to pass up a free 200k.

Even so after coming back to edit this post, i agree with what grey said below me.

I hate to side with Wilbon on anything... but people who are calling for Diddy to pass up the scholarship are being pricks. How many ridiculously successful, rich-as-hell, white dad's have sent their kids to ND free of charge? How many of those were told that they needed to spread around the wealth?

Notice I put it in italics. I think it is absurd people are calling for his dad to pay for his tuition. The kid put in the work and deserved it.

Thats what I came back to edit, to adjust for the italics. But then I got distracted.

I know you were being sarcastic. I was agreeing with you and putting in my .02.

Of course he earned it. He deserves it. I'm glad he's got it.

Irish freshman Nicky Baratti prepares to head to Notre Dame

Baratti ready to play safety again

Dan Murphy

Most incoming freshmen are quick to say they don’t care where they play as long as they can get on the field. Texas native Nicky Baratti has a track record that backs it up.
Nicky Baratti at Klein Oak

Klein Oak High's Nicky Baratti will play safety at Notre Dame.

Baratti volunteered to play several different positions as a senior at Klein Oak High School last fall. He started the season as his team’s quarterback and went on to finish the year as an all-state tight end. His willingness to put the team first earned him praise for Irish coach Brian Kelly on national signing day. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Baratti said he plans on bringing the same attitude to South Bend where he’ll be lining up as a safety.

“As long as I’m playing football that’s all that matters,” he said.

Baratti said he’s been working with a trainer since the end of football season on his agility and burst to get ready to return to the defensive backfield, where he played as a high school sophomore. He has been attempting to translate the Irish playbook and running through a DVD of drills from Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Kerry Cooks in his spare time this spring.

He said he’s looking forward to getting back into a normal routine when he arrives in South Bend later this month. He’ll be packing his truck to make the 20 hour drive from Spring, Texas in less than two weeks. Baratti spoke with Blue & Gold Illustrated recently about getting started at Notre Dame.

BGI:What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Baratti: “I think everybody is pretty much excited to get into a routine again together and lifting weights with a whole team. I’m excited about that and I think [the other freshmen] are too.”

BGI:Have you been working on getting comfortable as a safety again?
Baratti: “I’ve been doing a lot of agility drills, different backpedaling drills and stuff like that. I don’t know what else I could do for [defensive back] drills. I do some one-on-ones with guys from my school. Not really anything different, I’m just doing a lot of backpedaling and flipping my hips.”

BGI:What are your expectations for your freshman season?
Baratti: “My first goal is ultimately just to get on the field whether it’s special teams or getting into the rotation in the dime and nickel back. I just want to prove to the rest of the team that I am ready and willing to play.”

BGI:What’s the biggest obstacle to getting on the field next year?
Baratti: “Literally, just learning the whole defense. …When coach Cooks visited me a couple weeks ago I had gotten the playbook, but I didn’t really understand it. It had a bunch of arrows and circles and stuff, but he explained it to me when he got here so just trying to learn a little bit before I got there.”

BGI:What jersey number are you planning on wearing?
Baratti: “Well I was supposed to have No. 4 coming in and then one of the other safeties I guess was wearing it during the spring game. I talked to Coach Cooks and he was like, ‘If you beat him out you can have it.’ I said, ‘All right sounds good to me.’”

I love this ha.. They all go through it but it's just funny to hear a kid put it that way.

Great addition to the university.

I love this kid! He is gonna bring some Country Boy attitude (refuse to use the ignorant word "swag") to this team and I love it!

We have fabulous talent coming in at safety, Nick being right up there. They have a full year to learn under Slaughter, Motta, and Collingsworth if they need it. THAT pair of positions is going to be very good for a long time. Corner? well............................

How do you guys figure? They will all be behind Slaughter, Motta, McCarthy, Collinsworth and possibly Badger and Hardy.

They wont be behind McCarthy. BK is smart enough to keep building and not play a 5th yr guy who has never played. Badger will take this yr just to get back in football form. As hard as he works and even though he worked hard during his mission there is no way he is in football shape. Hardy is interesting bc he will def get PT this yr just a matter of getting his legs back under him from being off a year. Motta/Slaughter are the elite talent on NDs roster but all it takes is Bennett Jackson to go down and Slaughter is a cb. Collinsworth id doubt contributes much this yr. All I was saying is these young kids have a grest shot to come in and get some great Shots at PT

All viable points.

Although I think McCarthy will be given a bigger role than we all may think, if he stays healthy.
